~Story~

  • April 9, 2025, New York, NY. There are many theories out there about parallel universes, and the like. Most are seen mainly as something spewed out by a crazy person, and have little to no scientific merit whatsoever. However, in 2015, a group of scientists noticed a strange flow of energy around our planet that seemed to defy the laws of conservation. It seemed to be forming out of nowhere at one point, then completely ceasing to exist at another. The first theory was that it was somehow going right back to the starting point, but that was quickly disproven. After studying this for several years, scientists sent out a probe to examine the "end" of the line. As it had been determined, the energy was simply disappearng. It did not move, or convert to another form, it just vanished.

    Suddenly, all signals from the probe were lost. All screens went blank for nearly an hour. Then, just as suddenly as the signal had been lost, it came back...showing video of an area that looked nothing like our universe at all. The void of space, instead of our black, was a deep blood red. Planets with dramatic rocky surfaces that resembled dark fantasy art came into view every now and then. The signal was not very stong; it flickered quite frequently, coming in and out for a split second at a time. Then one night, it seemed to be pulled straight to one planet in particular. The one scientist watching the monitor at the time was nearly fired for being drunk on the job when he told what he saw! But it became obvious within an hour, he wasn't lying or going insane. This was a world of giant creatures, resembling this world's demons of fantasy fiction. Every so often, there would be some humanoid creatures seen, often battling with a giant monster...and miraculously winning. Apparently, they were very used to their situation...and had some unusual superhuman abilities, dealing with ome type of energy manipulation.

    Within a few hours, the probe sped off, still following the energy flow, and soon enough, the signal was lost again.

    This time, the signal returned, and it appread as if the probe had entered the atmosphere of our planet. The surroundings were a beautiful sky blue, yet...the probe was still floating in the void of space, following this strange energy flow. It reached yet another planet, which seemed remarkably similar to the traditional description of "Heaven." Snow coated the ground, yet it was not cold. The landscape was sparkling with bright white and gold. The inhabitants of this world seemed to be resemble fairies, angels, or once again, normal humans. White doves and cranes seemed to be everywhere. Most structures resembled castles or mansions. This world seemed very peaceful and beautiful. And once again, everyone seemed to have the power to manipulate energy.

    After leaving everyone staring in awe for a moment, the probe vanished once more.

    When it reappeared this time, the signal seemed to be stronger than before. It still flickered in and out, but it was not nearly as bad. This time it was clearer than before.

    The void of space was black, just as in our universe. It appeared as though the probe had returned to our universe...but it had not. When it reached the planet it was drawn to, it appeared similar to Earth...but the locations, people, and languages were different. Customs were different. There were different species of animals. And once again, all people seemed to be able to manipulate energy. Certain uses of this ability struck many as remarkably similar to various fantasy stories of our world.

    Once again, the probe vanished for a brief period of time...and when it reappeared this time, the signal was just as clear as when it had left. It had finally returned to our universe.

    This left the scientists with more questions than answers. How did the probe warp between the worlds? How did we get a signal through them? What exactly was this strange flow of energy that tied them together.

    The first world has been labeled "Planet D," the second "Planet S," and the third "Planet A." No one has been able to find any definite information on them as of yet.

    April 9, 2035. Ten years have passed since the probe was originally sent out, and pictures from its voyage are now being leaked onto the internet. While for the most part, the comments recieved are along the lines of "LOL@Photoshop," some people do seem to recognize them as being very real. Some even went so far as to claim they may have lived there in a past life.

    On this day, these images reached a 19-year old fantasy author living in New York City, as she boredly clicked around the internet. As she looked over an image of Planet A, tears of joy came to her eyes. She frantically checked everything against the images she had drawn of the world she had claimed to have "imagined." It was a perfect match!

    "It IS real...it's...my home! It really is real!"

    ~~~~~
    It seems that those who die on those planets may reincarnate here. Of course, it's not something that can be proven to the scientists...but there seems to be a problem. In their undying curiosity, the scientists are trying to find ways to reach these worlds. While it could be great for those who wish to return home...it could also be catastrophic if the beings from one world reach another. Do you support these efforts, or will you do everything in your power to stop them?
~Rules and Profile Skeleton~
~Rules~
* ASTERISKS * denote a rule I will be particularly anal about. Break them, and it will not be pretty.
  • * No godmodding, whatsoever. No exceptions. If someone else breaks this rule, kindly inform them of their mistake. You do NOT have the right to godmod back. *
  • * NO STEALING PICTURES. If you want a picture of your character, either draw one yourself, find one that looks like him or her and ASK THE ARTIST FOR PERMISSION to use it, or get someone else to draw a picture of him or her. If this cannot be arranged, just use a description. If you use a picture that you do not have permission to use, you will be reported. I WILL be going out of my way to make sure this rule is followed. *
  • * Follow the Menewsha TOS. I do NOT want this thread locked because you can't keep yourself in line, thank you very much. *
  • Please PM me your profiles. It's rather annoying to have a story interrupted by someone randomly posting a new profile. If this gets popular enough to warrant an OOC thread, then you may post your profiles there.
  • Your character may, if he or she is reincarnated from another planet, have some residual abilities from said planet. However, they are not to be too strong. This is still Earth.
Residual Abilities: Can call enough energy to one place to create a dim light or warm an object faster than body heat would. Usually dismissed as nothing by those who see it.
Bio: (full profile/bio link coming soon, but in a nutshell) Kelly lives in New York City. She is a college student, majoring in creative writing. Many of her ideas come from dreams she has, of a world remarkably similar to our own. This world was later discovered to be real; World A. In her dreams, and apparently her past life as well, "she" was a young male soldier named Daniel River, who used his energy manipulation abilities to change the physical structure of surrounding objects. When he was 21, his area went to war with a small nation to the north. The war continued for four years, but his life was cut short two years in, when he was shot in the chest by an enemy combatant posing as one of his fellow soldiers.
As a result of this percieved betrayal, Kelly has a terrible fear of unfamiliar people claiming to be on her side in anything.
She had a lot of social problems in elementary school, as some strange thngs would sometimes happen when she was around. At a point, a few of her classmates tied her to a fence and threatened to "burn her at the stake" for being a witch. However, this incident was the end of that, as those involved were severely punished. Through middle school and high school, things were much better. She wasn't particularly popular, but she wasn't seemingly the sole bullying target of the entire school. She got her first job as a waitress at age 16, but ended up in a security job (which paid much better) after an unusual incident - on an ordinary day, a masked man came in, threatening to shoot everyone in the store. Her immediate reaction was to run up and disarm him, which she successfully did. However, it was against company policy to resist such an attack, and so she was fired. Within a week, she got the offer from the local mall to act as a security guard.
Personality: Usually very friendly, but takes a while to warm up to someone if they're too enthusiastic about something she supports. She enjoys writing, and often compares people she meets to characters in her stories. She is a bit quirky, however - she can remain calm if a gun is pointed at her head, but not at her chest. She also collects guns and knives, as well as souvenir pens from various places and artificial flowers.
Appearance: Kelly is half British, half Chinese. She has wide European eyes, amber-brown in color, and the rest of her facial features are smooth and Asian-like in appearance. She has medium-light skin with a yellowish undertone and shoulder-length black hair, usually held back in a half-ponytail. She stands about 5'4," with a moderately small build. Her arms are very strong, causing them to look almost disproportionate to the rest of her body. She also has a particularly small chest, which she is occassionally teased about. Her preferred clothing is along the lines of simple knitted tops in various colors and plain black jeans. It is very rare for her to wear skirts, especially now that it has been confirmed that there's more to her dreams than just dreams. She also wears a thick silver chain bracelet on her left wrist, with a single lion head charm dangling from one of the links.
Residual Abilities: Mitchell unconsciously manipulates energy. He is always drawing it in and holding it within his body. This makes Mitchell less susceptible to physical harm and giving him a little more strength, especially in times of stress.
Bio: Mitchell grew up in Kansas. He has always had a bad temper, something that has gotten him in trouble on more than one occasion. Back in high school, when Mitchell was a junior, some peers who had a low opinion of him decided that they would goad him into a fight. After teasing him through the parking lot one day after school, Mitchell slammed his fist down on one of his antagonists' car hood. His fist went right through the fiberglass hood with a cracking sound. Needless to say, the fight was on after that. Things went down hill from there. After knocking one of the boys out, another drew a knife, but Mitchell was already enraged, too blind with anger to know the better. When his armed attacker rushed in, Mitchell's balled fist found the knife bearers throat. The strike was too strong for most people to survive without immediate medical attention, and the classmate died. After his expulsion from school and a lengthy, 5 year court case which ended in a self defense verdict, Mitchell decided to seek help. One of the many organizations that had sprung up prior to the public announcement of these alternate dimensions examined his court case and determined that he was a candidate for research. The organization offered to move Mitchell from his home in Kansas to New York City so that he would be closer to their central headquarters. Mitchell took the offer, all too glad to get away from his current predicament. At the organization, Mitchell tested negative to most of the tests. It wasn't until a spinal tap and an MRI that the organization's scientists determined that Mitchell's energy manipulation made his bones more durable and his soft tissues resistant to tearing and other forceful separation. After several psychological stress tests, the organization's scientist and psychologists were also able to determine the catalyst for his extra-human strength. An excerpt from one of the document surrounding his abilities follows.
"Test Subject C19 has shown unparalleled resistance to physical damage. While sedated, we've exposed the subject to a number of different stimuli, including knife wounds, scrapes, burns, high pressure depth tests, low caliber bullet wounds, and high calliber bullet wounds. Though in every occasion the subject was able to sustain wounds, we've found that similar tests on control subjects resulted in a higher degree of physical trauma. Unfortunately during his high caliber bullet wounds test, the subject awoke and flew into a rage tearing free of some of the restraints put in place for his own protection. It seems as if the subject goes from average strength to that of above Olympic athlete instantly, but is short lived. Oddly enough though susceptible to toxins and other chemicals such as medicines and tranquilizers, the normal means of sedation were not working, the low powered tranquilizer gun unable to penetrate the subject deep enough to deliver an adequate dose. Security had to retrieve an elephant gun while my assistant prepared a properly dosed dart. After application, subject C19 succumbed to the tranquilizer and we were able to continue."
--Excerpt from Dr. Jerold Monroe
Strangely enough, Mitchell accepted his somewhat barbaric tests, wanting to know his limits as well. By 2030 he determined that he was from planet D originally. This was done with the aid of the organization's psychoanalysts who started long and extensive interviews surrounding Mitchell's dreams. In time, it was discovered that he was once a noble warrior staving off monsters from a human populated area and that eventually he lost his life doing so.
Personality: Mitchell is generally kind and accepting of others. Unfortunately, as stated earlier, Mitchell has a horrible temper, especially when threatened or frustrated. This has caused him some hardships over his lifetime, both prior to and now with the organization.
Appearance: Mitchell stands at 6'1" and appears as a healthy man of his early 30's. He has light brown hair and full beard with the occasional gray hair here and there. He wears small rectangle glasses that are more for reading than for every day use. He generally wears a jacket over a hooded sweatshirt with jeans and tennis shoes.
Mitchell sat in the empty room staring at the the one way glass while he rubbed his wrists. The matching bruises around each were a result of his struggling against the hand cuffs he had worn earlier. This prison was getting smaller w/ each passing week and he wandered how much more he could stand it. More pressing though was why had they moved him from his cell without sedating him first as was usually the case. Stranger still was that the key to his cuffs was waiting for him on the table when they threw him into this interrogation room. Normally he would have tried to summon his strength and throw the chair through the glass, but today was different, today he had a cool head.
After some time, Agent Nora came in and took a seat across from the table. Mitchell always liked this one, she was pretty and fairly kind, yet their was something about her. Mitchell always suspected that she, like himself, had some sort of latent ability. However, never once did she reveal her power though, even that one time when he...he pushed that train of thought away, preferring not to relive it.
((Sheesh, I've been so busy working on stuff for my character that I forgot to post. @_@ I really wish I knew how I pulled that off. ^^;;; ))
Amy rummaged through her bag, searching for a scrap of paper she had drawn on during her break at work the previous day. "Come on...I know you're in here somewhere," she muttered under her breath as she struggled to organize the contents of te bag even just a little. A dim light appeared from her fingertips, just barely illuminating the inside of the bag, though it did enough to let her find the piece of paper. She cheered under her breath as she pulled it out and placed it in the drawer where she kept most of her quick sketches and similar items.
She glanced up at a nearby clock, noting exactly how much time she had left before she had to go to work. 'I've got time to make one quick comparison...'
