My favorite kind of avatars to make are "story" avatars. More often than not, you'll see me with fewer accents and less matchy-match going on than some folks in favor of items that fit whatever theme I'm imagining; although, I do crack out and go for color-coordinating layers once in a while too. :) I also enjoy making cosplay avatars and the challenge of building "contemporary" outfits.

Neat Tricks

The Eyes Have It






Voodoo Doll Skin ( ) + the swirly eye pose in Makin' Faces ( ) = Creepy red side-glancing eyes!

Fun With Wigs & Bits

Something I really like to do is create "new" hairstyles using existing bits. Here's a sampling of avatars of that ilk. I promise to add hex codes for hair colors eventually - I didn't think to write them down when I first made the avatars so I'll need to recreate them all to get the codes. <3

Side Ponytail

This hairstyle uses the white hat fluff pose from the Shiver me Timbers! CI, any Ayumui's Bow, and Hairstyle 25 in white. You'll want to use a greyish base hair color and white or nearly-white as your highlight color. Without the bow it doesn't look quite right to me, but you could throw something else into that spot instead.

Big & Long

This one's simple - the only tricky part is matching the hair color to the wig color. You have many color options with these wigs, which is great. Take any of the A la Belle Poule Wigs (must have avatar set to female to buy/equip) and wear over Hairstyle 27. Fiddle with the color til you get a match. Adding headbands and hairpins can help you achieve a variety of looks.

Curly Temples Ponytail

Similar to the last style, this one requires color matching hair to wig. You'll need your avatar to be set to male to be able to purchase and equip any Foretop Wig. Tons of colors to choose from. Layer over Hairstyle 23, tweak haircolor to match, and accessorize as you wish. The example here is using the crown pose from the Midas Touch CI and a Camilia Felt Hairpin in Fondant.

These avatars were inspired by the changes of the seasons and various seasonal holidays.

Ghosts!

I made so many ghost avatars for Howdy's and my thread during the Halloween 2011 event that I felt they needed their own post! These were lots of fun to make! The "secret" to a good ghost avatar is to use grey/white/other very pale colours, and not to skimp on accessories ~ the Obakemono and/or Blood Lotus CIs are very nice to use for the mist-at-feet effect you see in many of these. The Book of Daydreams has the little white sparkly bits that swirl around the avatar.

I've made me a little thread a little earlier. I was pressed for time then like I am now, so I wasn't able to put a whole lot in there. I will eventually get some of my other outfits in there.
