As a child, she would have really bad abdominal pains, sometimes causing her too lay in the fetal position for hours. Her parents didn't know what was wrong with her, until one day, she started to throw up blood. Her parents were worried and they rushed her too the emergency room. After days of tests the doctors figured out the horrible truth about her sickness. Rita's survival rate was said too be slim since she was no more than 10, but she beat the odds and survived. Finally after a few years the cancer showed no sign of return, that is up until recently. She is an only child and she loves sweet things, animals and little children.

Rita was doubled over in the bathroom again. Her forehead was drenched with sweat, her legs were weak as she slid against the bathroom stall door. Rita's bangs clung too her forehead as she closed her eyes. Peering into the toilet bowl she saw it was red. She wiped the corner of the mouth with her white sleeved. When she pulled back her sleeve she saw it was stained red. She shook her head, 'No, no, no' she thought desperately too herself. It couldn't be!

The abdominal pains, the excessive vomiting out blood, the loss of appetite and the sudden loss of weight and feeling tired all the time. How could I have not noticed these symptoms before?! My cancer....it's back.

She had tears in her eyes as she thought about it. No. Rita pulled out her phone, the lecture was almost over, there was no point walking back into class, especially in Rita's current state. She had too muster all her strength too push up against the bathroom door and stand up. She quickly flushed the toilet and washed her mouth and face in the sink. The cool water felt amazing against her warm, sweaty skin.

Rita sifted through her bag for car keys, she was almost darting out the university as she made her way too the car. Getting in the car she strapped herself in and put her head against the wheel. Her eyes drooped, Rita pinched herself. No, she needed to get to the hospital! She started the car without a delay and drove well above the speed limit too the hospital.

Smiling, Dr.Carlin scribbled something onto the clipboard before placing it in it's rightful spot hanging from Mr.Koda's bed. The man, after coming in screaming about mass stomach pains, had been taken in for testing that took up basically David's entire morning. What a pushy man..

"It's indigestion, sir. And here you thought you were dying." He teased, the man had lost his frantic demeanor and started to laugh.

Today was a good day. All of the patients he was taking care of seemed to only been diagnosed with minor inconveniences. No one was dying on him today! He took out a paper from his pocket and wrote a few things on it.

"Here are a few recommendations for stomach relief. You're free to leave anytime."

After this was when his day was going to start to go down hill. Little did he know that he had destiny to meet.

Rita didn't know how many lights she had jumped but she didn't care, her abdominal pains were getting worse and worse by the minute. She didn't know whether too drive or clutch her stomach in pain. She made it too the hospital in record time. Parking in the first spot available she walked towards the door, she was almost staggering as she went through the doors. She walked up to the front desk, her face was visibly shaken and pale. "I..I need too see a doctor" she muttered too the nurse.

The nurse looked shocked to see a young girl like Rita clutching a stomach. She was quickly ushered onto a stretcher as she was wheeled too an examination room for check up. The nurse gave her pain killers too try and subdue the excruciating pain the girl was feeling. Rita closed her eyes as she waited for a doctor to show up, all throughout the car drive the horrible truth that her stomach pains might have been her cancer returning had stuck itself to her thoughts.

Rita had lived for so long, but now if the cancer suddenly was indeed back what would she do? She had her whole life ahead of her, she was almost done her major and minor she was going to follow her passion of art. Rita took a handful of long chocolate brown hair in her hand, she remembered as a child she had been bald for awhile because of chemo. Rita loved her hair, it was rich and thick. She sighed, if she had too undergo chemotherapy again all her hair would be gone.

The good doctor's heart sank when a nurse approached him to tell him his new patient. He was good friends with the woman; A sweet girl who felt the pain for every patient she met and assigned rooms for.

That's why he was worried when he saw her visibly shaken.

He followed her to the examination room, a heavy atmosphere surrounding them. Could it be his good luck was going away? As he opened the door, his eyes beheld a beautiful, pale young woman. For a second, he was distracted by her face; such sad, brown eyes staring at her silky hair, mixed with another emotion, what was it she was thinking?

Dr.Carlin took the clipboard from the nurse and smiled, trying to dispel whatever negative feelings were around the room.

"Miss Rita Johnson? I'm Dr.Carlin. You came in complaining of severe stomach pains?"

His eyes darted over her medical history, then stayed stock still. She had stomach cancer and beat it at such a young age? His textbooks told him that was unlikely, but he's seen humans have miracles before. Unfortunately if she was going here for stomach pains now...

In his head, there was a mantra:

Please let it just be gas, please let it just be gas.

"I'd like to give you a sonogram, is that alright with you? To see inside your stomach."

Rita looked up as a man entered. Her own brown eyes looked into his darker ones as she nodded, "Really bad stomach pains" she said with a weak smile. Her hand had been shaking badly the whole time as she clutched too the bed. Her eyes were depressed as he mentioned a sonogram, she knew what the sonogram held.

Rita nodded, "Yeah, t..that's fine" she whispered. Rita tried too get up and follow the doctor but was almost over with the pain and was instantly knocked too her feet. Her breathing had increased rapidly again.

"M..may I..get a wheel chair" Rita was having trouble with her speech. Rita was hoping and praying inside her head that it was nothing, just maybe pre-menstruation cramps, something which Rita often got. Rita wiped her drenched forehead again, she pressed the back off her hand against her forehead, she felt slightly feverish.

"Of course."

He gave a nod to the nurse, who skittered off to grab a wheelchair. It didn't take long for her to bring it back. The nurse watched as David offered his hand to the woman. Usually it was the nurse's job to do things like that, but he never asked them to.

He wanted to take care of his patients as much as he could, and to keep them as comfortable as possible. It was that driving need to help people that really motivated the rest of the staff, but made him a workaholic.

Constant overtime, constant worrying. The bags under his young eyes showed it all.

"This may be a bit cold." He warned as he placed the blue liquid on her stomach. They were in the sonogram room, some place that he liked to believe was usually held with happiness. A wife looking at her unborn child, with the husband holding her hand.

"You've had stomach cancer, when you were ten, correct?" he asked while pushing buttons to turn on the machine. "I'm not going to lie to you, there is a high possibility at the moment that it's back."

Gently he placed the attached Linear array transducer to her stomach. The machine immediately began to pick up the sound waves and show a picture on the screen.

Rita whispered a weak thank you to the doctor and the nurse as she took the doctors hand and stumbled onto the wheel chair. It felt strange sitting on it and being pushed around, she was an independent woman and hated having too depend on anyone else but herself.

Rita noticed the bag under his eyes, he looked like her when she was up too late trying too complete her projects. She had dreaded the moment as she climbed onto the bed and lay on her back. She nodded as he said the liquid was cold, she gave a small involuntary shiver as the gel was smeared on her belly.

Rita sighed, "Yes, I had cancer when I was younger" her voice was soft and a barely audible whisper. She gave a small laugh as he said there was a possibility that it was back, "And I have no intention of denying it because for years I've feared that it may return" she retorted.

She watched the screen, she knew she probably wouldn't be able too spot it as quickly as the doctor but she hoped that there was indeed not cancer. Rita sighed as she watched the screen with dark, heavy eyes. Her feverish ways had almost seized, she just breathed unevenly once in a while.
