My friends and I always thought it hilarious that our all women's college celebrated May Day, including a May Pole until it was struck by lightning. All the feminist stuff shoved down our throats, and then we have a party that involves phallic symbols. I mean, I guess on one level we could be celebrating our power as women, buuuuuut, when you're a girl who's been swimming in nothing but estrogen and some very gay testosterone for several months, is that where your mind goes upon seeing the May Pole? Uh, no! XD

I still need to post pictures of that party. Slacker Woody!!!!

Lol! Well, I guess sometimes you can't escape dancing around a phallis. I totally made my own maypole a few years ago. <.< still have it. :D

I liked to have huge midsummer parties!! (any excuse for a party!) I was at school during May Day, and so I read that people often used Maypoles for Midsummer too, so I made one, and put it up, had a big bonfire and a blast. :D

I love the changing of the seasons/ the welcoming of them, so it was good times. The last May Day party I had, there was no May Pole, sadly, but I had a ton of people show up and we had a picnic on the shores of Lake Champlain, and we jammed with guitars, banjos, and whatever other instruments people brought.

:D And I agree. I think it's really funny when people get affronted by certain things (like hardcore, and I mean ultra-uber feminists) but then turn around and do something that is completely androcentric. I say there is a nice firm middle ground we can all stick to. :P

Ah, that makes me think of a funny story.

I was joking around with my freshman year roomie, and I needed to use the restroom. I opened the door and looked at her saying, "Yes I went there," referring to the gutter. I walked out and then back in continuing, "I own a house there!" My roommate was laughing hysterically even when I got back.


. . . And I'm glad I wasn't the only one who had a slightly immature thought when we went from mentioning "androcentric" to "firm." ;p

What? Androcentric? Means revolved around men/ the masculine ideas, etc ;) Sorry to make your brain hurt. (muahahaha)
