I'm a bit fan of Allen Moore, Neil Gaiman and Diana Wynne Jones, I just love all their books, my favorite by Allen Moore is V for Vendetta, my favorite from Nail Gaiman is Coraline, and my favorite from Diana Wynne Jones is Howl's Moving Castle. The funny thing is, is that my favorites all have movie adaptions. XD

Mary Higgins Clark
Her murder mysteries scared me but gave me that thrill.
Stephen King did thrill me but still left me asking too many questions.

Tamora Pierce and Neal Shusterman. They are simply amazing. \
Both are fantasy authors.
Pierce writing books set in the fantasies worlds of Tortall and Emelan her books typically tend to focus on knights, mages, and kingdoms. Tortall is about a series of heroines. Emelan is about four young mages.
Neal Shusterman
has many great novels most of which seem to deal with real world fantasy.
His best is called Unwind and if you have ever read Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal it is very similar to that except for it deals with the abotion issue. In this 'world' abortion is illegal but parents can retroactively have their children aborted from the ages of 13-18 through a process called unwinding. Unwinding is the systematic dismemberant of the teenage and their body parts are used in organ donations. This books is my favorite book ever and is simply amazing!

Must have authors:
Robert Jordan
Terry Brooks
Terry Goodkind
Brandon Sanderson (new addition to my list)
Sherrilyn Kenyon (also new to my list)
Anne McCaffrey
Will usually grab if I see (used or on sale):
Maggie Furey
Melanie Rawn
RA Salvatore
Margaret Weis
Tracy Hickman
James Clemens
Chritine Feehan
will also grab almost any fantasy books I can get my hands on "cheap" just because I read too fast and am always looking for "new" stuff (read all 4 Twilight books in about 6 hours each just for a general idea of how quick I go through them lol)

I love Darren Shan and his books. They are awesome. But I don't buy books much because even though I love them a lot, I don't usually read them more than once.
