- A family is supposed to there for eachother in times of need. A haven. Somewhere a person can go when they don't know what to do. A place where you always have somebody who cares for you.

However, in the tiny town of Leeks, there is an extremely dysfunctional family. The Vale family is a large family, with children from all ages, a long with other relatives and friends who live under the same house. The parents constantly fight, their children are no better. Always getting into trouble in one way or another, whether it is by fighting, underage drinking, drugs - you name it and one of the family members has probably done it.

The worse part of it is....
Just about everybody out of the house thinks the family is perfect. Nobody has a clue how screwed up life really is for the family. -


Rules

We all know that society would be complete and utter chaos without rules so here they are, and yes I am typing them up in paragraph form. ^^; Next, I would like it if you sent all profiles with the title as 'Perfection is only an Illusion.' Here is the thing I am strictest on, I want at least semi-literacy here, we all know how to read if we're here, use proper punctuation, and try to keep an eye on your spelling. I'd like a paragraph per post at least. Now, I love romance, and I have no limits personally but Menewsha does so please do not give us details of your character's sex life. Kissing is fine, but there are time-skips for other "sketchy: things.... I think those are all the major rules for now so have fun. ^.^

[Julia is the mother of the Vale family, married for nearly twenty years now, she has kept her maiden name since her marriage, never even thinking of chaninging it. Julia grew up and only child, spoiled and vain she was used to getting everything that she wanted. After graduating high school, she decided she knew exactly what she wanted to do with her life. She was going to become a famous actress one day. Of course,that wasn't the hand Fate had dealt her at birth. A couple years later, she was in the acting business, but nothing major, she met a man who would eventually become her husband. After her first child was born, she began to hate her life. She had never wanted kids and never had been fond of them. She began to obsessively gamble, and she started smoking, pretty soon the drinking started.

She doesn't like talking about her personal life, as she has trust issues, so if you manage to get her to do that, congratulations. She is called Candy because of her sweet tooth.

As a child of the Vale family he appears perfect, but of course he has his vices. In school he's getting good grades despite not doing his homework since he does well on tests and big assignments. He originally had brown hair, but dyed it black and red. He doesn't care so much for his grades, rather cares more about himself and his few friends. He appears to be very reclusive, but in reality he's somewhat social when you get to know him. He never really feels remorse for any he does, able to suppress his conscience completely.

[Cerise wasn't always that way she was, she had at one point in time been a cute little girl that always did as she was told. When her parents started fight though she began to take an interest in men and she was rather abusive about it. She hates the fact that she can't find someone she likes and she tends to take that out on her current boy toys. ]

Dominic uncorked his bottle of champagne, not bothering to use a glass and instead drinking from the bottle. Unfortunately his stash was starting to dwindle. This was the last of three that he had. He felt his head start to rock a bit as he got off of the bed. Maybe he could poke around in his mother's own drink stash. It wasn't like she didn't have one. He took another swig, suppressing a burp. Champagne wasn't enough for a lasting buzz.

Elizabeth Vale, or Candy as she was better known by looked pouty as she entered the spotless living room of her house. It was amusing to her, her mother rarely spent any time in the house but she demanded that the house stay spotless. If it didn't it wouldn't take long for her to throw a fit and a half. She frowned as she continued walking, and entered his brother's room without bothering to knock. "Hey." She said, looking at the bottle of champagne he held. "Have any more of that by chance?" She asked him, as she brushed her red hair away from her face. "I could really use it at the moment."

Well in all honesty it wouldn't hurt her to lay off due to the fact she had a kid, but one little glass wouldn't kill her. "Mom's out, and she moved her stash again." She added bitterly. Frowning, she glanced around with a sigh. She remember being Dominic's age. Life was a tad bit more peaceful then, she had no real trouble then, except for an occasional run-in with the local law enforcement. Now she had a kid on the way/ How in the Seven Hell's was she supposed to manage that?

Dominic nodded, though peeved that his sister entered without knocking. "You could bother to knock." He walked over to his dresser, taking out a glass and pouring in some champagne. He handed it to Candy before going back to his bed. He looked at her, wondering what she needed it for. Well why wouldn't you drink when you were a part of this family? He sighed bitterly, hearing that his mother had moved the stash, again. "Damn that woman." He took a hearty drink from the bottle, blinking for a moment. He was probably giving his liver hell, but he didn't care.

"Thanks," Candy said before taking a sip. "Would've knocked but I have other things on my mind, sorry." Looking around his room, she leaned against the wall and watched her brother for a moment. "I swear, you're going to kill that liver of yours one day." She told him, with a weak smile, she paused; "Then again, I'm probably not one to talk." The craving for a cigarette had begun once more and she tried to ignore it, but it wasn't that easy. She played with the small crystal heart on the necklace she wore and looked up at him. "So whats up with you?" She asked quietly.

"Well if it makes you feel better, you'd probably get black lung before your liver dies off." Dominic looked over at his closed laptop, putting the bottle at the corner of his bed as he pulled it up. His memoirs were saved on there, all one hundred twenty fiver so far. "Nothing but the usual family dysfunction." He removed his hood, revealing his black and red hair as he finished up the last of the alcohol. "Damn, looks like I've got to open up another bottle."

That was a lovely thought. Crossing her arms, she forced a small smile. "Well , guess what else." She paused, "I managed to go and get pregnant...." Looking at the ground, she closed her eyes. "Never thought I'd be able to say that at seventeen."

She hadn't planned to tell anybody yet but it was beginning to bother her more than she could say, and her younger brother was the only one in the house after.

Dominic would have done a spit take if he had beer, but he didn't have one in his hand. "Are you serious?" He sighed, not quite surprised at that since she did sleep around a lot. His eyes looked down at the bed, not saying anything else at the moment. It would take time to digest and was he the only one who knew? For that matter, who was the father?

Candy nodded. "Mmhmm." She frowned as she opened her eyes. "I found a couple of weeks ago, and first, when I took the test, I figured it was wrong. But I went to see a doctor and I was told the same thing there." She didn't say anything for a moment, as she ran a hand through her hair. "The worst part is I don't even know who the kid's father is. I mean, I have a faint idea of who it could be, based off who I slept with when I was sober....but what if the father is someone I was with when I drunk as hell?" Burying her face in her hands, she let out an exasperated groan. "I have no idea what I'm going to do. I can barely keep myself in line, how am I going to take care of a kid?"

Dominic nodded, listening to her. He felt his conscience starting to come up and tell him to comfort her, but at the same time he wasn't sure how to do so. He tried to count off how many people that he knew Candy had slept with, but which was drunk and which was sober was a mystery to him. "Well, there's always adoption right?" He couldn't empathize with her, but he still felt sad for her.

Candy nodded and looked at him, "In the worst case scenario, I'll consider it, but I plan on keeping it...." She paused, and played with the necklace for a moment, "But I feel terrible about even considering it now, and besides, I don't think our parents would approve. I mean, Mom never wanted kids, but she kept us all anyway. And sure, it hasn't been great here, but at least she tried....."

Looking at the ground once more, "Who knows, maybe I'll find out for the father is, and maybe, hopefully, he'll be helpful." Though with the majority of the guys she knew, she found that one unlikely.

Dominic nodded, staring at the wall. "Yeah you've got a point there." He paused, trying to think of a good response. He considered helping her find the father, but he doubted that he cared enough about her to do so. Still his conscience might come and bite him if he didn't suppress enough. "Hopefully..." How many guys that she knew were known for being reliable or helpful for that matter? Well if he were in this situation he wouldn't be too helpful, but that was just him and a lot of other people.

Candy looked around his room, before her gaze met his. "Sorry, by the way," She told him, "I just really needed to get it off my chest. I wasn't sure of what I'd do if I didn't...."

(Short, but I'm kind of busy and writer's block. >.<)

"It's okay. I needed someone to drink with anyway." Dominic opened up his laptop, hearing it whir to life as it turned on. He clicked on the shortcut to his documents, opening up his memoir folder. Seven chapters so far, the first page dating back to a year ago. If anyone outside the family read this they would think he was making stuff up.

Candy nodded, "Well, I'll let you get back to that." She said quietly, before heading out of the room, and hearing the front door slam, she headed into her room, shutting the door as quietly as possible before locking it. She had no desire to see their mother at the moment.

Julia looked around the house and frowned slightly. The house was quiet that was a miracle, "All right who died?" She called, and grimaced slightly. Ok, that wasn't the best idea. You see, Julia was once again hungover, and had spent the night in some trashy little in near the casino. But it wasn't all bad in her mind, she had gained an extra ten bucks for the seventy she had lost. The previous night had been her best night but at least she hadn't walked out with nothing. Lighting a cigarette, she plopped down on the sofa and resed her head against the back of the house.

Dominic nodded, cringing when he heard a door slam. Frick, it was his mother. He put his laptop to the side, walking up to quietly close the door. He could bet a thousand dollars that she was drunk and unless she had some for him he wasn't seeing her. He went back to his laptop, thinking about what to type. Last time he left off, it was two weeks ago and he had just gotten out of a fight. Well, a few interesting things happened in between that time. Of course he wasn't sure what to title the whole thing. "Perfection? You're So funny!" was the temporary(sarcastic) title.
