Yes, I've read Black Beauty - very good book. I read anything by Mercedes Lackey and I like Dean Koontz because he usually has a dog as a main character. Just read a book by Anne McCafrey and another author called Catastrophy. It was about cats in space - was pretty cool, too.

I've only managed to read a little bit of Take a Thief. I liked Skif but I was a little confused as to what the story was about since I didn't read from the beginning. Didn't get to finish it though since it never occurred to me to just borrow it from my school library :XP

I've seen a lot of Dragonriders of Pern books but I'm not sure about reading one.
