I finally have reason to set up a jar. Not many happy or good things have happened to me so far this year. But now I have two things to share!! :3
Feel free to join in on the Jar-ness...
Jan 24:
I was able to sign up for two free-online learning programs. YAAAAY
One is for my field of study, and is for re/certifications.
The other is a language study program. I hope to become more fluent in French and to be able to add that to my list of skills.
Thanks Ling! I've started on the French ones and feel particularly silly because it starts me on alphabet and numbers even though I have basic conversational skills in French.
The other one I'm just waiting on them to finish some routine maintenance to the site so I can start on those classes. The certifications they offer will hopefully net me a better job. *fingers crossed!!!
Lol long jar! I love it! I'd love to be fluent in another language. I hear French is hard. I'd love to learn Mandarin. I've already learned a little, but I'm far from fluent, and I could probably never write the stuff, lol.
French is actually pretty easy if you already know English or Spanish, there are a lot of cognates and borrowed words. French grammar might be closest to English grammar in terms of rediculousness though. XD
Lol! Well darn. I never thought too into French because I was always told it was so hard to learn. I thought about learning Spanish. I live in South Texas so that one would be incredibly useful, almost every day. But I prefer Mandarin over Spanish and I'm going to get my 3 year old into a class and I figure, if she can learn Mandarin, Spanish will be a cinch when she's done with Mandarin, lol.
As someone who's grown up speaking Mandarin at home while living in an English speaking country...I can tell you that, at least for me, there's no end to learning the language.
I think it's great for people to learn other languages from a young age and Mandarin is the language most people in the world speak, though the concentration of the Mandarin speaking people are in China I imagine...so it's certainly a useful language.
Actually, hand writing Chinese characters and doing Chinese calligraphy can be a fun form of art and language development.
Jan 25: I painted today.
Got one of commission pieces done and worked on a non-commission piece that probably won't sell like most of my alters. Oh well. I have one more commissioned piece to start and finish.
Commissioned piece
SPOILERX
almost done Non-commissioned piece.

Poppet; Commission is anything you are paid to specifically do, usually in terms of writing or art. In my case the local game shop has given me a set of cards to alter (paint over) they pay me for my work. If I paint one of my own cards and they like it, they pay me the value of the card + work.
And here is the card finished!
Thank you Poppet! All I'm doing is extending and altering the already existing art on the card though.
This is an older one I've done but it at least shows exactly what I'm doing.

I adore Mandarin for some reason, and I'd love to be able to speak it fluently with my daughter. I think the writing is beautiful, too.
I admit, knowing as much Mandarin as I do know is useful for everyday conversations with people from places like Mainland China or Taiwan who have limited English.
Chinese Calligraphy is actually an art form I really like too but like my hand written Chinese what I end up doing looks like something a young child would do...
WHOO! I returned the two commissioned card to the game shop and go $30 and 5 more cards to alter.
Spent all day yesterday with my beau, we went out shopping and then went for some dinner. It was nice to spend that time with him. Today we slept in rather late (he forgot to set his alarm oops) but we might go out for dinner again tonight! :3
Didn't really go out for dinner tonight, maybe next week. But we did hop over to the local Wawa for subs.
I spent most of the day completing an online course in my field. It seemed to take forever and my wrist hurts now, been a while since I took extensive notes!! :O But on the plus side I got a 100% on the course and received both certification of completion and 0.2 CEU's!! :3
Watching lots of ghost shows with my Matt. And he let me do dancy dancy with him to some Fleetwood Mac after one full day of spooky ghost shows. He usually won't let me dance with him as he'll just stand like a lump. XD
I finished a couple more cards and had a bit of fun with them.

I got a big commission job last night! Well I still have to come up with the price list and quote for the work. but YAY! Guy bought a few of my pieces from the shop and wants me to do more! The shop will get %10 as a referral fee but that's fine with me. They got the me the work so I think it's fair. :3
