I dunno; Lilith sounds like it could be pretty appropriate for males as well. In terms of the way it sounds, at any rate. That's just me, though. The name "Ryan" is also applicable to both genders, as well as a host of other names that have since grown to be favored by one over the other. It seems, to me at least, that many previously unassigned names (in terms of gender) have become associated with females, while significantly fewer have been associated with males alone.

I'll tell you if I ever meet a GUY with the name Lilith, especially shortened to Lily.
xD
I might have to wet myself laughing though first.

Just because there aren't any doesn't mean that it has to be that way. *shrug* I just don't think it sounds that weird. That's just me, though, like I said. With as many times as I've been confused for a boy, it gives you a different kind of perspective on what constitutes male and female (or masculine and feminine, but they aren't the same thing).

Lilith was the name...biblically, though the new testaments would never dare to speak it, of Adam's first wife. Who he shamed and scorned, and then left for Eve. She became the first Succubus known to man.
Succubus means that they shape shift and prey upon the weak minds of men. Impregnating them to carry on a demonic lineage. The child them becomes a Succubus or Incubus (the male version).
That was the first REAL meaning of the name.
Quote:
The girl's name Lilith \l(i)-li-th\ is of babylonian origin, and its meaning is "belonging to the night". From "lilitu". According to legends told in the Middle Ages, Lilith was the name of Adam's first wife. Because she refused to obey him, she was turned into a demon and Eve was created to take her place.
Lilith is a very rare female first name

Haha why wouldn't it admit to that? o_o.
I was just talking about the sound; not the origin.
That is, it's specifically referring to females, but it isn't necessarily a particularly feminine name... whatever feminine means, anyway.

Unless you REALLY wanna confuse your child about it's sexuality, I wouldn't recommend you name it Lilith.
Unless you have some sick twisted plan about it or something xD

Ugh. I had a post here, then hit a wrong key and lost it. x_x.
But no; no sick nor twisted plans here. *shrugs*. I simply meant that the name itself didn't to me scream "feminine". I personally don't follow the general rules about male, female, feminine, and masculine. However, I'm no Bible scholar, so I had forgotten the significance of the name in biblical terms. Though I was aware of what a succubus is. That sounds like a story typical of a patriarchal religion, though.

*nods* Exactly. Whether a name sounds feminine or masculian really depends on person to person. A name may sound feminine to you, but in actuality, it might not be.
Take my name for instance. Heather sounds very feminine to me; it means flower. But, that didn't and won't change the fact that the name is really a unisex name and is used for both males and females.
Or Andrea. Andrea means masuculain, but it's unisex and happens to be my very best friend's name (who happens to be female). The name is commonly used for females in America, but in Europe, the name is more commonly used for males.

Ooh!
I get it now, I guess my original name could be considered by society an androgynous name. But It's like a one in a million chance of anyone else having the name so I doubt I'll ever meet a boy walking around with my old name.

Haha, glad you see, otherwise I would have probably been very frustrated as I didn't know how much further I could break it down XD. I think it's probably a pretty "old-fashioned" name. That is... most of the most common names are just as old, but they're still popular, haha. Tastes change, etc.

Sorry, I'm slow!
:(
Ummm, my old name, seriously it was definitely never meant to be made. You'll never know it, and probably never hear it ever now. Cause it's not my name anymore xD
But I chose Lilith after my ex BF cause he loved it, and I changed it to that, and I've been "Lily" ever since.

It's okay; you got it in the end.
Aw, I'm sorry you feel that way about your old name :(.
It's hard to know, though, in naming children, I would guess. My friend has the name "Ashley", and she is unhappy with it because it makes her feel like (or rather reinforces her feelings that she is) she's ordinary or unspectacular; some people, on the other hand, are very unhappy with their uncommon names and would prefer to have something more common. Still, there are those who are perfectly happy with their names.

When I have children of my own, I hope to give them names that aren't common. Such as Penelope Ae, Odessa Virginia, Mees Antoinette, Desmond Mackenzie, Charles Wallace, Emiel James, Blaine Howard. These all seem like lovely, beautiful names, I just hope my children like them.

Well that's exactly what I mean. I was talking about your given name, haha. The name Lilith isn't all that unusual, in my experience. It's one that I'm familiar with. It's just not one that I hear a lot.

Okay, I'll explain.
I'm a very unusual person, most would say, one of hte strangest they've met. O.o
My old name was VERY VERY original, the only other time you heard it, spelled the same way, was a COW! A COW was named after me! That kinda made my old name a little bit too original...-_- No one remembered the GIRL name "-----" but they all remember the COW with that name...
I was a little pissed that my mom would name me something that means PLATEAU by the relative spellings pronunciation but NOTHING by my mom's spelling...-_-

Haha... that doesn't sound too bad to me.
There are a lot of people whose names mean nothing in the spellings that they have. There are a lot of creative spellings of names that are generally considered common.
[email protected]: Aw... those sound cool. I think I'll just figure it out if I ever get pregnant.

Well as she said in the original spelling it means "Plateau". The original spelling would be "mesa" ^^. I believe... but I've never heard it as a name. Then, it's easily abbreviated to "mae" which is a name I've heard before.

It's too unique for even me.
I can't stand it, I got ridiculed for years for it.
I finally had enough of it, I'd had enough of people recognizing a stupid smelly animal for the name when I had it FIRST and getting TEASED for having a cow named after me...

I just wondered if that was how the name was pronounced. ^^
I really hope that when I have a daughter named Mees Antoinette she won't be teased! D":
It's a beautiful name, I think... I'd be so upset if she hated it...

I'm sorry about your bad time with your name :(.
When I was in middle school, I got teased a lot about the show Boy Meets World. People would be like, "where's Topanga?" or "Where's Shawn?" or say something about my girlfriend or something. I don't even know why the hell they did it, but they did. I've known several boys who have the same name (same pronunciation), but no girls. In fact, I have a friend (well, a high school friend) named Kory - a guy. I like that name, though, Maesa. It's too bad you had such bad experiences with it :(.
