Federation Police, Unit- Mersenne 5, is a Sci Fi Fantasy Roleplay based around a Unit called Mersenne 5 that is part of a hybrid police/government force known as the Federation Police. This Roleplay is inspired by many various sources and will have open space for creativity and extra input. So long as you adhere to my rules and guidelines as stated in Section 5 of the OOC thread.

Four years in this hell hole, what a troublesome existence it had been since he was thrown to New Mars. Commander James Mertens of Mersenne 5 sat behind his desk, rifling through the same reports he read every day, signing papers he saw everyday. But it all came down to nothing when he came across the obituary of another officer, this causing him to stop all other procedures as he slowly got to his feet.
A thunderous crash could be felt a floor down in the mess hall, several soldiers chuckling, others lowering their heads, one even commenting that it was the third desk that had been wrecked this month. Sure enough people knew that they would find the Commander's desk in two halves, papers falling into the 'wound' that was the center of the fallen in desktop.
True enough, their commander was pissed, losing officers was bad, especially when they were among the top ranked officers in their single station. To top it off they rarely got reinforcements, unless they were rejects no-one else wanted. As for the rest of their force, they were either rookies or paper pushing punks hired by the higher ups to make Mersenne 5's life even more difficult, but Commander Mertens always found ways to circumvent the rules. It was the only way to keep his officers alive.
Grave stepped out of his office, the door opening and shutting automatically with swift speed. He didn't need to nurse his arm for pain, it was prosthetic, in spite of how human it looked, even felt, but in truth he was really just a torso and a head on fake arms and legs, the thought still gave him chills at times, but he appreciated the synthesized nervous system that allowed him to feel surfaces, the burns and pains of normal limbs would never concern him.

A brown haired boy sat in the mess hall, wincing at the crash that he felt between his shoes. The commander had what he would call a temper tantrum. He was currently typing on his laptop while eating lunch at the same time. Usually this wouldn't matter to him since the guy would get over it, but this partially affected him as well. After all he couldn't procrastinate he broke a desk. This boy was named Leon who was essentially making an array of click-click sounds as he typed.
He deducted that they had lost another officer, but the commander should have been used to it by now. He had been here for four years after all. He took a bite of his sandwich. How many desks had he broken this month?Leon shook his head as he went back to his computer. He didn't have much to do other than mindless computer surfing that he wouldn't remember the next day. He finished up the last bite of his sandwich, closing the laptop with his free hand and getting up. He might as well go train.

The commander was already a floor down, the file on the dead officer in his hand and a look of grim determination upon his face. The decedent didn't even attain a worthy death, gunned down by some random lawless punks, how could he report such a thing to the relatives of the fallen officer? He'd given the same lame excuse so often now, The Officer died while serving and protecting the people of NM13. It never did much good, it just softened the blow, but barely enough.
If he could have had his way he would have send his officers into every rat infested hole of this city and blow them away with the same lack of compassions, but he would not be tempted, at least not yet. The doors to the mess hall opened with an audible hiss, gears turning swiftly and allowing the commander to step through, instantly catching attention as some of the lower class rookies practically shot out of their seats and saluted, but Grave didn't really care about that,
"The funeral for Officer Jenkins is tomorrow at 1800 hours. I'll ask any officer not on duty to attend, donations to her family may be made then, as per usual.."
The last three words were said with a somewhat dark, hateful manner, enough to make the newbies lower their heads, practically quaking in their boots. Even veterans were somewhat worried in the presence of their strange Commander, but that was to be expected. They feared the temper that came with the modified man. Several attempts had already been made to suggest his modifications were affecting his state of mind, the adversity never lasted long, besides; they didn't want to send any of their finer officers to head this place of misfits.

The mess hall shook. Another officer, already? Damn, this wasn't the best of news. At least, not towards Alice -a Federation Officer of four years. She was busy snacking on some potato chips when she heard the Commander go on and finish off his speech.
"...As per usual..." he concluded.
It was a daily ritual for her and the other officers to hear of such sadness partake in their colony. It was a shame though, losing another member like that. As far as sympathy went, Alice hadn't any -at least as far as she could tell. She stood up, taking her chips along with her, and headed out for a smoke. She needed something to gather her thoughts.

As per usual Those words rang through in Leon's head as he carried his laptop out of the mess hall, not wanting to stay in that sad of an atmosphere. Jerkins would be a missed officer, mostly because he was somewhat of a veteran and a good one at that. Not that he knew the man all too personally.
He continued to walk, stopping when he saw a girl smoke. A familiar smell to him, though not in a good way. The smell of cigarettes wasn't anything new to him, but it reminded him of when he was seventeen. Of course the first time he ever did smoke he ended up hating it and not trying again. "You know, that stuff with kill you."

Alice nodded in response, her back still facing the other. "Did you come to talk or to criticize?" she asked, exhaling the smoke she held in. This had been another daily thing with her -a constant reminder of how smoke kills. Honestly, didn't anyone have anything else better to do?
She did however, question her habit. If it was so deadly, why even go on with it? There were more interesting things to do than just smoke your life away. But then again, knowing Alice, there was always a risk to be involved with her actions.

"Neither, originally I was going to head somewhere else, but I figured that that could wait." Leon wrinkled his nose at the puff of smoke that came out of her mouth, deciding to take a seat on the floor. He knew that she was probably tired of people reminding her that, but one more time couldn't hurt her. It seemed though that he was procrastinating his original reason that he came out of the mess hall for, training.
He tapped his hands on the top of his laptop, stopping when he realized that he would make thumbprints on there. He wouldn't want that. Leon sighed, standing up with his laptop in hand. "Anyway, a bit of advice. Try chewing gum instead. Makes your breath smell better."

Grave left the mess hall also, handing the file to a nearby secretary and ordering for it to be reported, instantly following after both Alice and Leon, hearing the males comments about the smoke as he stood nearby, eyes on both,
"Fortunately enough Connor, smoking wont kill as soon as a gunshot to the head," He remarked, seeming to think for a moment before immediately standing formally again, "Officers Connor and Valerio, I'd like you both to report to our HAS unit R&D section. I have an assignment for you both, our head of Research will fill you both in on the details. Finish what you're doing and report there immediately."
James continued on past them, obviously with purpose, that man was always busy, always had something he needed to get done,
"I'll come to check up on you shortly thereafter, don't disappoint me and do everything you can to help." He called back, carrying on whilst adjusting his uniform slightly. These things never made him comfortable. Regarding the request he had just given to the two officers, it was a concept he had in the works, always thought it would be a good idea to give his HAS pilots the edge. However they needed a computer expert handy also, Connor more than qualified for that, Valerio, on the other hand, would be the guinea pig running the mill.

Alice scoffed, both to Leon and the Commander, as she stomped out her cigarette with her boot. "You heard him, come on." she called as she left the room, the door slid behind her with force. Alice straightened her gloves, and flexed her fingers. Despite the very little information given to her, it seemed as if a lot was taking place.
She sighed deeply, wondering what was so urgent that it required both officers. Pilots, at that. Alice continued about halfway, before pulling out a stick of gum. The way things were going, she might as well take Leon's advice.

"Good point, Grave." Leon replied, He nodded, listening. "Will do." He waited for his superior to walk past them, though nodding once again. "I'll try not to disappoint." Truthfully he wasn't sure whether what that exactly the assignment was. Hopefully something that could wait if he happened to get distracted. He followed after Alice, opening the door again after she closed it.
Leon took a pair of gloves out of his pocket, putting them on and straightening his jacket as he entered the room. He clutched his laptop as he stood, waiting for further instructions on what they(or just he) would need to do. With one hand he adjusted his lenses, not wanting for them to fall off.

Immediately greeting them was a researcher, they had a fair few handy, and this one just seemed to be similar to the rest, ever curious, constantly jabbering among his colleagues when he wasn't working, the usual. This one approached them, mumbling for Connor to man a specific nearby console that looked vaguely like the interior of a typical HAS unit setup. Then he looked over at the female, directing her to hatch and opening it, this lead into the interior of a Guardian HAS. But there were modifications, various odd changes,
"We were wondering when we would get some-one to test this new system. There are various improvements a few new toys and a most important feature we have installed, BioInertia fluid."
Another, more confident scientist stepped in, motioning for the first to leave,
"The BioInertia fluid was a concept created by our esteemed commander, and we believe we have made it a reality. Normal HAS units naturally have oxygen, but instead you will enter the cockpit and it will automatically fill with Oxygen-infused BioInertia fluid that can be breathed and recycled continuously by specially modified BioArcana crystals we have added into the systems. The purpose of the fluid is to cut down the Inertia experienced in high speed combat, allowing faster reaction and easier focus as well as shock absorbency that doesn't affect the pilot." He finally finished, clearing his throat so he could look over to Leon and smile, bowing his head politely,
"The commander asked for your abilities because he believes you to be capable of finding system flaws, the fluid is experimental and we are worried it may interfere with other systems, perhaps causing an entire system failure... Er to cut the story short, one HAS suit automatically went into self-destruct and destroyed a dummy pilot. We really do not wish to see a repeat, however-" The scientist looked over to the 'guinea pig' "Luckily this time we isolated that particular problem, self-destruct will no longer be an issue to be concerned about. But regardless." He turned to Leon once again, "You will still be responsible for the health and safety of the pilot if you do not find and isolate any problems quickly enough."
He finally pointed out a large window at a 'proving grounds' of sorts, that was basically the same as any HAS testing ground, laid out with targets and other tasks to perform,
"I am sure as a HAS pilot, you should be familiar with basic practice drills, perform them quickly, efficiently and return here. You will still be able to communicate to us through the fluid, it does not impede sound."
[Activities can include lifting items, shooting targets, attacking drones, testing agility by dodging/slaloming past various obstacles, tests on shield integrity against BioArcana or solid attacks, etc etc. Go wild]

"I see," Alice said, after a moment of absorbing all of the details. She took out a rubber band from her pocket and tied her hair back into her casual ponytail. Officers knew for a fact, that when Alice brandished a ponytail, she was usually training. It also meant that she wasn't in the best of moods, either. Ha, what a surprise they would be in for...
"Is this a non-smoking unit?" Alice questioned the scientist, looking around inside the Guardian. If so, she could just pull out her peppermint sticks and call it a day. She had to at least see what this craft was capable of, as well.

Leon soaked up the instructions, nodding along. BioIntertia fluid... That in itself sounded a bit risky considering the problems in the previous past, but hopefully if there was anything wrong he would be able to catch them before anything happened. Even if he was able to find errors more easily than a human dummy it wasn't as if they couldn't get a trainee or something...a trainee that knew how to drive. He felt like such a guinea pig.
He turned his head to face the HAS unit testing grounds. Still, why was the scientist looking at him? He figured that Alice would have enough common sense to look after herself and he was pretty confident of his skills. He put down his laptop onto an empty table before walking over to the Hunter unit, feeling the outside before opening up the vehicle and stepping inside.

"BioInertia fluid is unreactive to heat and fire specifically, in fact it is quite resistant, but in consideration of other chemicals in a cigarette and the smoke it produces, we do not know what the result would be... I wouldn't recommend it." The scientist noted about the cigarette, pushing up his glasses calmly and walked up to a console, beginning to type in codes and sequences to prepare the HAS unit,
"Miss Valerio, we will now flood the Guardian II unit with BioInertia fluid. Take a moment to adjust to the 'feel' of it then we will begin the drill."
A final code was keyed in and the Guardian unit was closed automatically, sealing perfectly and detaching from the port it had been attached to. This was followed by an odd hiss within the cockpit itself, the entire machine roaring to life at first before dulling down to a quiet hum, quite the feel of power HAS units had. A strange fluid had indeed also begun filling in from the floor upward, it was opaque, slightly blue in color but easy to see through,
"You may find, for a while, as your body gets used to the fluid you will be a little sluggish, this is normal, all your HUD's and systems should be running perfectly though. I'd like you to run a manual systems check, just to make sure everything is operational," The scientist chimed in, just as the BI fluid reached above Alice' head,it wouldn't take long for it to hit the top, "Don't panic, breath it in like you would normal oxygen and you'll be fine."

So much for even a peppermint stick, Alice thought as the liquid submerged her completely under. She closed her eyes and breathed as if it were oxygen, which oddly enough worked. Opening her eyes, she found herself to a bit lethargic and everything around her was a light-ish blue. She tried to walk forward, but it was sort of hard when your entire body felt like jello.
"So, now what?" she asked, feeling a bit impatient -God, how she craved nicotine. There wouldn't be enough cigarettes to fill in this void, not at the time being. Alice relaxed, resisting the urge to whip out a smoke right then and there -but who knows what good that'll do. Instead, she closed her eyes once more and bit her lip, awaiting further instructions.

Kerry stretched her body stiff; she had been curled up in the Destroyer unit for a good two hours now. It was an ideal place to work for her, out of the main traffic patterns eliminating any one who would ‘just want a minute’ but still if any one important should need her, it was a reachable place as the unit had its own com system. Shuffling back about the last of her papers she sighed, hiding time was up with the last of the report she had been working on finished and ready to give to Commander Mertens. Clambering out of the unit she set about closing it back down and shifting the laptop and papers on the loading dock floor for a moment as she pulled back over her uniform.
Giving the dock a look over for any thing she had missed, she scooped the papers and laptop up she struck off to find the bases Commander.
Mersenne 5’s Commander was an odd man for her, for the first month on the colony she had spent her time trying to place where she had met him before. To her amazement after a bit of research she found him to be none other then the rookie her last year of training, whom had saved a bus full of civilians. Yet the man who she now fallowed was a puzzle for her, and at time she felt he was nearly out of his mind as she had been, but he had done enough to keep the unit alive and together as one could with the current times to earn her respect.
Stopping first at his office she held the report out his secretary. “Could you staple that together for me? In case he has another desk ‘accident’, like last time?” She asked the woman warmly “And did you happen to see what way he stalked off last? I need a word with him.”

The secretary, whom had been cleaning up the mess her commander left earlier, took the paper raciously and staple it as asked. She was young, a little nervous and jittery, maybe frightened by the 'albino' ghost that was the Commander, or perhaps it was her normal disposition as she a made something of a sweet, stuttering reply,
"Y-yes maam.. H-he... Uh.. Went t-to the R&D sector.. I think..." She bowed slightly, hands before her like some kind of maid, she'd always been like this, the commander could easily have picked many more confident types but he requested this one specifically.
True enough he had informed her of his destination, though he was sorting other things along the way, he was headed toward the Research and Development area of the HAS units. He wanted to see if hi concept was becoming more of a reality, and he believed in the capable hands of Officer Valerio the new Guardian II model would handle quite beautifully, as for Officer Connor, he relied on that one's computer expertise to outstrip the panicky researchers and beat malfunctions to the punch.
The commander stopped his advance all of a sudden, almost as if he had lost himself in a void. A strange dark feeling was overcoming him, some kind of premonition? No, he swept it aside, it was the stress for definite, what a bothersome irritation, now he was hallucinating. Though it never lasted too long afterward it was all he regarded such things as, he had more important things to do in the now.
----------------------------
"For the moment, perform a few basic exercises, running, jumping, moving large objects manually, for example, there is a trashed bus a few hundred yards ahead of you, lift it and throw it a short distance. Yes, I believe that will suffice as your first test." The scientist watched on, brushing at his stubbled chin quietly, there were things about the BioInertia fluid that were quite interesting, he supposed telling her now would be as good a time as any,
"You may notice how, even in the fluid, your movements are not restricted, in fact your body and the machinery may respond faster than before. Normally we would have called this simple 'Inertia' fluid because of the basic tasks it performs. But now that you are breathing it and taking it in as part of your own system, it will react to synaptic response. In effect you have become a brain and nervous system to the machine, rather than just a simple pilot. To this end, we call it BioInertia fluid because it allows the pilot to quite literally interface with their HAS unit. I believe that is why I did not recommend smoking, because the chemicals would most likely travel to your brain along with the BioInertia's oxygen and.. Effectively.. Flood your brain with unwelcome agents. In theory you would either die quickly or you would suffer distinctively horrible amounts of pain before, finally, dying.. This is all theory but I do not believe the commander would approve testing such a theory. I am sure you understand."

Great, another way of how smoking kills -and a little more harsh than the other fifteen times she had been reminded. As said, the fluid had been doing its job; it made Alice feel more energetic (which was usually odd, without nicotine in her system). She growled and cracked her gloved knuckles, eyeing the dishelved bus that lay hundreds of yards away from her.
"But, throwing it sounds so...dull." She whined, jokingly. Her eyes narrowed, "Can't I just destroy it?" Alice figured it wouldn't hurt anyone, so she might as well. 'Life only happens once, you might as well risk it'. No one ever understood that (as she felt it), though. Or unless they did, and were just trying to tone her down a bit. The reason became slightly obvious, then.

Kerry nodded at the young woman. “Thank you dear, and mayhap look in to bin off his desk for papers….it is silly for you to have to pick them up after he does in another desk.” Turning back out the door she gave a shake of her head. Another officer another day and another broken desk, some things would never change.
Moving towards the Research and Development area she absent mindedly waved off those who approached her say that she would be in her office later. Her mind was wondering what on earth Mersenne 5’s Commander was cooking in the labs now the last thing had been rather interesting and labeled by some down right crazy. Nearly walking past the area door she stopped shaking her head before peering about for some one who worked in this sector. The last thing she wanted to do was wander about here as it was her least favorite part of the base for a good number of reasons.

"Good news, Miss Fox." The commanders voice announced as the woman came within range, he didn't even turn to look, like he knew it was her, "You're on the candidate list to take over Officer Jenkins place." He spoke it much like many grim, yet repetitive things that had happened more and more frequently as of late. The commander looked through the windows of the observation deck down on the remodeled Guardian HAS unit that had been injected with the BioInertia fluid, hands behind his back in standard military stance. Not far off from them was the research quarter where the scientist and Leon were keeping their eyes on Alice.
The scientist sighed, rubbing his forehead in a slight of confusion,
"Please, Miss Valerio, do not ask for something to do if you are going to override the given tasks with your own ideas." He complained absentmindedly before shrugging, "Do as you please, either way we need to monitor you and the unit in action, so please proceed with whatever makes you happy." He prepared to monitor whatever actions she would take,.
"Jenkins' loss was a shame. He was a fine second and the top agent in his field, not to mention the first comrade I ever made here. Then some dumb punk guns him down in the middle of the street... That isn't the way for even a rookie officer to die, Fox. What would you describe as a fitting end?" The silver-haired being stared over his shoulder with a single red eye, practically fixated on what she might say.

Leon chuckled at Alice's obvious show of recklessness. True it would be interesting to see what would happen if they just killed the HAS unit, but that was not the point of the task. Too bad they couldn't do something else...like ride around the city. He examined her from afar, nodding along at her results so far. Nothing bad quite yet. He had to wonder what this BI fluid was made of, other than oxygen and BioArcana crystals, but what else? There had to be something if cigarettes had a chance of reacting badly with it.
He continued to watch, raising a hand and almost biting his nail. He soon remembered that he was wearing gloves and didn't really find the flavor of leather all that savory. That he learned the hard way. He put back down his hand, his eyes looking once more at the readings. He hoped that Alice would do something cool like blow up a bus. He would see then if anything would happen.

Kerry raised an eye brow at the commander’s voice. Coming over to the window she looked down at the unit wondering what on earth they were up too with the HAS Unit, only half listening to the question she had just been asked. “So that is good news around here, I hate to see the bad…..” She said her mind slowly turning over the question as it filtered in to her brain. It was a test she could feel it, but yet she didn’t care what he might think of her answerer, unless it got her sent back to the counseling division, but she didn’t think that he would waste an office in such a way.
“A fitting end?” She mused after a second “Is there ever one? Seven years ago it would have been to die for the force I was standing for in the most heroic way possible, Three years ago it would have been a pleasant retirement with a life out side the force….now, well I have stared the end in the eyes and all I can say is you go when you go, choices are limited. So today, let’s make it go down fighting.” Looking up at the commander then she matched the look with one of her own slightly interested with what his response could be to that.

Alice sighed as she walked over to the damaged bus, before the scientist finished his statement. She was losing her patience and deeply craved cigarettes. Hell, right now, even a stick of candy would suffice. This test should help her get over that, though.
The wrecked vehicle laid before her, and if she wasn't mistaken- it was missing a tire. Alice shrugged and proceeded to lift the bus. She paused, smelling the light scent of smoke (which she so heavily craved) and assumed it to be exhaust. But that wasn't right, the bus was suppose to be 'trashed' or as they claimed. "Whatever," Alice mumbled to herself, and lifted the thing altogether.
She grunted at first, it was a bit heavy for her. It leveled out, and soon she had it over her head in both hands. Alice inhaled, as she tried to catch her breath. Ugh, that smoke is getting stronger by the minute. It seemed as if breathing was getting more difficult, as well.

"Containment has been breeched." The scientist sighed, covering his face with his palm as he pressed a failsafe trigger. In that instant the fluid drained from the pilots cockpit, ejecting it out the hull and pouring down the lower frame of the unit to the floor, "All data is frozen, lets backtrack and find what went wrong." He began to look back carefully through the log, looking up briefly through the observation glass,
"You're free to smoke now if you like, just make sure to cough up the BioInertia fluid first, after that you're free to play with the Mark II model, just don't damage it, its still a prototype." He finally looked upon his console once more, still searching. Sure in normal situations he could easily have continued the test, at the risk of Alice' life, but he knew the commander was watching.
"Go down fighting.." The commander repeated it for a moment, looking away and chuckling slightly, not even stopping for a short while before controlling himself, "I like that.. At least I know I can count on you to give'm hell." The man stopped, looking out at the HAS unit while the fluid was ejected, another failed test, this was getting irritating, what was missing? An empty sigh and the shake of his head before he turned away from the window, "Not again, how irritating." He rubbed his temples, stopping to look over at the elder female,
"Your record states you've been in service about as long as me, even surviving that long.. I think we're both pretty lucky in that respect, or perhaps just too stubborn to kick the can just yet. I have a list, Officer Fox. A list of people who interest me.."
