Hesitating a moment, she asked, "Why...why do you care if I trust you or not?" It seemed very odd to her that a demon would give any sort of mind to what a human like her thought of it.

"Just because I'm labeled as a demon doesn't mean I'm some heartless fiend." She said with a small shrug.

"...I still don't understand why you care. Most humans don't even care. Besides, I'm just your brother's pet." She spoke these last words bitterly. "Why would anyone here care at all what I think?"

"Oh you're more than that, believe me." She said with a soft smile. "You may very well become our best hope if all goes well. But I've said too much. Jin's waiting for you."

Confusion once more passed over Carol's face. "Best hope? For what?"

"For an end. Now run along, Jin's waiting." She said as she moved up into the metal contraption.

Deciding it best not to question further, she did as told and left the room. "What was she talking about?" She muttered to herself before calling, "Jin?"

"Are you ready to go home?" He asked, avoiding her eyes.

"Yeah, been ready....what's up?" She leaned so she caught his gaze. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. I'll be heading out for a while after I get you home, I've got to do something. It will take me anywhere from a few days to a week. When I get back... well, what we do will depend..." He gave a small sigh, "It's not a trip I'm looking forward to, be glad you get to stay home for this one."

"What do you have to do?" She couldn't say she wasn't happy he was leaving--it would give her some extra time with her friends--but some small part of her almost wished he didn't have to, moreso because he seemed to dread it so much than because she would miss him.

"You'll see when I get back. By the way, it doesn't matter where you are, when I return I'll end up next to you. In other words, running away won't do any good for either of us." He said as he led her outside. "Oh... here..." He pulled out a small box. "Put this on." He said as he pilled a thin bracelet with a small gem on it out of the box. "The gem's a button, if you press the button it'll call me. If you're in trouble hit the bottom and you'll be rescued."

"I'm getting really sick of all this secrecy," she muttered as she took the bracelet. "Wish you would just tell me for once." She put the bracelet on, admiring it against it against her skin.

"I'm going after information. I want to know how and when you'll die, and there's only one record in existence that'll tell me that."

Her eyes snapped up to meet his. "What? Why do you need to know that?" She tilted her head slightly and hesitantly asked, "Does this have anything to do with what Annet said...?"

"And what did Annet say?" He asked with a blink. "I'm not going to tell you anyway, I won't be the cause of your death, nor will I do anything to prevent it. It just tells me how long I have to wait, and how long you'll be confined to Earth."

Her eyes narrowed. "Wait for what? Just what do you plan on using me for?" This whole thing was driving her crazy. She'd thought she was simply getting herself into a maid job. A difficult one, but nothing more than that. Now it was slowly coming to light that she'd signed up for a lot more.

"I can't tell you until there's nothing left for you to do to change it. It's easier this way. Besides, you no longer have a choice anymore anyway, right?"

"Then I can't do anything to change it as is, can I?" She pointed out. "Not as long as you forbid me to."

"Until I get back at the very least, I'm not explaining anything to you."

Folding her arms over her chest and sticking out her hip, she asked, "Why?"

"Stop asking about it." He said as they stepped outside. He slid his arms around her waist as his wings spread. "Hold tight, we're traveling via magic this time."

"You're so frustrating." She held tight onto his shirt, shifting slightly to avoid the painful crushing of her chest. "And what you mean?"
