I was pretty surprised when I saw that there wasn't a thread on this game yet, lol. :P But anyways, what do yall think about the game? PS3 and XBOX 360 users alike! I played both of them, and the both have their minor goods and bads, lemme know if you agree with me!

Before that though, I do have to say one thing... I personally don't think it's worth spending $60 on... Though I would definately borrow it from the first person I know who has it, lol. It's got a pretty in depth Character Creation system, and you can edit and the main characters with different outfits and everything! You have even have them fight in their underwear if you so wish. The graphics are beautiful too, which is another big plus. And the critical finishes are nice to watch, if you can get them to go :)

Anyways, the arcarde mode is pretty decent, but the story mode is quite disappointing. You fight from 1-3 people per stage, but its only 5 stages long. And all you get "story" wise, is a wall of text in the beginning, a cut scene after the final stage, and a caption afterwards stating what happens to the world due to your beating the final boss. I mean, the Story mode from III was waay better imo, and was interactive too. Also the load times are frightening on this game, but I'll get to that in a sec...

But on to the comparision! The XBOX version has Yoda! Though it takes some time to get the hang of him. The most noticeable thing is that (obviously) he's shorter that everybody, which is great for dodging most high/mid attacks and almost all throws. However he's gotta jump for alot of his attacks and for this throws so like I said, it takes time to get used to. The PS3 version has Darth Vader! He's slower than Yoda but stronger. And I think he's more fun to use than Yoda.
The bad thing about the PS3 version though, is the loading time!! Between each battle it has to load on both versions, but on the PS3 version, it gets very tedious after a while. I had time to get dressed during one of the load screens... The XBOX version isn't too horrible, still have to wait a bit but nowhere near as bad as the PS3.

Anyways, what do you guys think about the game! This is just one lowly fan's opinion, so feel free to add whatever you want! :)

After the money grubbing debacle that was SCIII, I was dubious but hopeful that they wouldn't be doing the same kind of thing with SCIV. It appears I was wrong.

It's even more egregious in this case because they obviously paid for the LucasArts license, so why not put both characters in both games?

Yeah... It would be nice if they were in both games... Though a couple of my friends are speculating that the opposite character will be available for download at a later date. I really hope that's so. :p

I'm always super excited for new Soul Calibur games, so I was absolutely crushed about 3 months after the announcement when they started releasing character art and all the female characters had breasts that had grown about 5 times their normal size, and clothing that made absolutely no logical sense: how does Ivy fight in her p1 costume without having serious back problems? Isn't what Talim's wearing a bit jailbaity?

My opinion of the game worsened and worsened as time went on with the revelation of the Star Wars characters; they fit into the storyline less than Spawn did, and their movesets seem super cheap - especially the apprentice. Once they started revealing the cookie cutter anime chickies who all use spears, and the Taki ripoff character, I was pretty much done with the game. The character creation screen shots stirred my interest again briefly, but after thinking about it, I've decided I'll probably at most rent the game.

I used to love Soul Calibur because it presented strong female characters like Sophitia - ignoring vapid girls Xiang Hua and Cassandra - who didn't have the token Japanese game "huge bewbies, tiny waist" figure. I can see that the developers sort of abandoned that in favor of "fan service" (which, to my understanding, hasn't actually been going over so well with the fans ). I'm severely disappointed that more time seems to have gone into breast physics and showing skin than anything else.

you know. i've seen the commercials and both my boyfriend and I are debating if we will purchase it or not. i think he would play it more then me but still the game itself looks like an upgraded version of streetfighter, i loved that game when i was younger. mind you i've never owned any of the other games in this series, so i'm not ENTRIELY sure of what its like but indeed it has caught my interest. maybe we'll rent it from blockbuster or something to try it out first <.<

Soul Calibur I, on the dreamcast, was the finest fighter of its time, and I would say still ranks in the top 5 as best fighting games of all time. II was universally loved, although I, myself, wasn't much of a fan. III had a lukewarm welcome because, while incredibly pretty, the side games were pretty tedious and extremely buggy (corrupting people's game saves completely) and the AI was amazingly stupid, I haven't heard too many good things about Soul Calibur IV from reputable (read: places where people aren't allowed to review a game on the condition that they only give it above a certain score) sources.

I would say that a Soul Calibur game is a better investment than any of the current 3D fighters, though, as it controls much more smoothly than others - although I've heard that SCIV's controls are kind of poop.

Yeah, I absolutely loved Soul Calibur I, and had me hooked since then. II was awesome too, though I mostly stuck with the Gamecube version since I'm a huge Lengend of Zelda fan too, lol. III was alright, but it was the one I competed most with my friends in, so it grew on me after a while, and I enjoyed it. IV I'm not so sure about... Like I stated it's not something I would spend $60 on, but definately borrow it from someone who already has it! >)

My dad has a PS3 so I got that version of it. Idk, I've always loved the Soul Calibur games. For some reason I never get sick of them and they're always fun.

I do agree with whoever said the story mode was a bit disappointing. First time I played, I was like, "What, only five stages?" :0 But I haven't checked out the other arcades and stuff, maybe that will make up for it.

Anyway, I really like some of the character's outfits. I love Talim's second outfit, Amy's, and Ashlotte's. Ivy's outfits have always been completely impossible and slutty. xD Same with Voldo, he's got some questionable attire and suggestive moves.

On virtue of sheer hilariousness, Voldo has always been one of my favorite characters. Although I can't play with him, I get too distracted laughing. XD

I have it for the Ps3 and I'm really loving it.
It's really fun though you gotta unlock a lot to make a good character.

I'm very pleased with this game. I usually don't like the newer fighting games, but I absolutely love this one. Arcade mode and story mode are really short, but the ascending and descending of the tower is where I'm spending most of my single player time. Very difficult and I'm stuck on floor 45 ascending. I have a lot of fun with the character creation. I've made two characters that I really like so far, and I'm sure I'll make more when I get more items. At first, I was very skeptical about the Star Wars characters in the game, but they've grown on me. I have the 360 version so right now I have Yoda and the Apprentice, but I've heard Vader will be on the xbox live marketplace soon enough. Playing with the Apprentice has also made me want to get The Force Unleashed even more. Anyways, back to this game. Graphics, of course, are absolutely beautiful in this game. It's also feels and looks very smooth to play. Online play has been working very well for me. Having a lot of fun playing with friends and showing off my custom char acts. I would recommend this game to all. And if you don't think you want to pay $60, I know Gamestop has (or had) a promotion for when you trade in games to get Soul Calibur 4.

Does anyone know anything about the downloadable content? I heard they're planning on releasing packs of either extra costumes for characters or extra unlockable costume parts for custom characters. :O

I find that all the games of soul calibur have all their strong points. like SC2 had better attributes for the weapons. SC3 changed some of the attributes on some weapons for the worst eg. Damascus for Mitsurgi. But SC3 had alot to show and had so many extras it is unbelieveable. just when you thought you unlocked everything you would find something new to unlock. Great game. SC4 found me very hesitant as the critical finishers really turns me off. and also having Darth Vader and Yoda turned me off as well. And what a lame story for them. Oh there was a relapse in the blah blah blah and went through a portal. Very lame. But when I actually had a go of SC4 I wasn't overly impressed but I was impressed. it looks good, they are more indepth with their features, some characters are harder to use than previous but you can adjust, character customisation is good, overall it is a good game. I didn't like the fact that the story isn't indepth as it used to be (it is a great story) and that the critical finishers are so hard to do.
I give the game an 8/10.

Further note - why isn't Necrid back. He is awesome.

OK, here comes trouble.
I own SCIV for the PS3. I have been a fan of the series since Soul Blade on the PS1.
The basic history is this- Soul Blade-PS1, Soul Calibur-Dreamcast, Soul Calibur 2 PS2 etc and SCIII PS2 etc.
In my opinion Soul Calibur 3 was a work of pure genius. The character customization was perfect. It offered plenty of fighting styles and costume setups for every taste. The story mode was an epic, and the vs mode was brilliant.
Also, It a had game modes that encouraged the use of custom characters, For example, Chronicles of the Sword. A basic Real time strategy where you commanded several units to do battle with others. I found this the best part of the game. SCIII also let you customize the colors of the main characters, Which is were it differs to SCIV.
SCIV allows full customization to one costume of each Character, With the exception of Yoda and Darth Vader. This is bit of a let down, because you cant choose what costume to customize and sometimes they give you the lame costume. And seriously. Who wouldnt want to see a pink Darth Vader? but hes completely uncustomizable.
Also, The custom characters now are just clones of the main characters. So it kind of defeats the purpose in using them when you can customize the mains and whatnot. There is also no game mode exclusively for custom creations.
SCIVs story mode also took a few steps backward. In SCIII, you had some form of interactivity, like some choices that would affect the fighters you would face and such. Now however you get a small text plot and a poor cut scene of your character getting the sword. No Cinematic? whats with that?
What Namco has done it seems, Is taken a few steps up on there right foot, and a few steps back on there left. Its left them doing the splits on a staircase made of razor blades if you could visualize that.

I'd best say though that I do love SCIV. It is quite a fantastic game. But I was looking forward to it so much, that it just didnt live up to my expectations from SCIII. Really though, Whats up with Darth Vader being in it? He doesnt fit at all!
I first heard that they where putting in Characters from a popular movie trilogy, I thought Pirates of the Caribbean! Jack and Barbossa would have suited the theme of the game so much more.
Well, Id best stop before I get in trouble. So thats my opinion.
Shout if you want to see a Pink Darth Vader though.:P

I don't own, nor have I played the new Soul Calibur. I have Soul Calibur two and I played Soul Calibur three briefly. It's really disappointing to hear that story mode is worse than it was in three. I for one couldn't stand watching the same scenes over and over with different characters in them, especially if you didn't do the ending right and had to do it over again. DX

Character creation sounds fun. I made one in three, but I really hope that there are more options. The character options weren't very nice looking.

Maybe I'll rent it from blockbuster or something and try it out.
