My favorite childhood books lately are magically being adapted into movies...
To tell you the truth I love Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs and Where the Wild Things Are. Their movies don't look very promising in my opinion, but I would defiantly suggest the books to anyone.

Oh man, I had an read so many books as a child, it's hard to remember which were my favorites.
Oh I know! There were a couple of books (which I still have) that I used to read over and over again. The first one was Calico Captive by Elizabeth George Speare, which was about a colonial English girl who gets captured by American Indians. The other book was Pathki Nana by Kenneth Thomasma, which was about an American Indian girl who witnesses a crime and has to flee into the wilderness to stay alive.
I just noticed that both of those books deal with American Indians, but from opposite perspectives, which is interesting.

The first chapter book I ever read was the Chronicles of Narnia, so those books definitely hold a special place in my heart.
But I think my absolute favorite was the Lord of the Rings, which I started with the Hobbit when I was entering fourth grade. That was also the only book series I actually ever cried while reading it. Come on, imagine a little fourth grader reading the chapter where Sam has to make the decision on whether or not to continue after (supposedly) loosing his closest friend? Seriously, I even remember that it was night time and I was reading the book in the backseat of a car and how my mom asked me what was wrong and I said in the most dramatic voice, "FRODO'S DEAD!" Then imagine the fourth grader dance of victory when I found out that no, Frodo WASN'T dead. Good memories.

Hm... let me think. There were several, actually... there was this finely illustrated book about dinosaurs with realistic paintings and descriptions and information on each dinosaur. There was also such a book about insects. I can remember clearly the section on crickets. And another book about reptiles, also beautifully illustrated with paintings. Annnd I really liked "Purple Picklejuice" and the other books in that series. (It was a kind of cutesie Goth-esque series for kids.) And when I hit age seven, DEFINITELY "The Andalite Chronicles," part of the Animorphs series.

When i was really little probably about 3 i loved 'The Large Family' series. They were about a family of elephants and i thought these books were hilarious, they were tiny books about 10cm by 8cm and i had 4 of them that came in a little box set.
When i was a bit older maybe 9 or 10 i really loved Jaquline Wilson books, i think most girls at that age adore them. All the girls used to fight over them in the school library, especially the "Girls in love" and "Girls out late" books which were meant for like 12 year olds and had kissing and boys in them.

If it had Roald Dahl on the author line, it was my favorite. I really can't think of any other author whose stories impacted my childhood as wildly as him.

Oh and later on By ronald dahl....The BFG. The words were hilarious!
Quote:

the BFG, because he refuses to eat people, must survive on a revoltingly bitter and sour vegetable known as a snozzcumber. Luckily he is also able to make a delicious drink called frobscottle, which is fizzy and infinitely refreshing. It is rather unusual in that the bubbles in the drink travel downwards and therefore cause the drinker to break wind instead of burp; this causes noisy flatulence known as Whizzpoppers.

Ahhh, my favorite book when I was really little was Goodnight Moon. Every night, before I would go to bed, they had to read it to me, and they had to read it exactly as it was written(I was very particular about that, haha), and then we would go outside and say goodnight to the moon and the stars... It was a nightly ritual for who knows how long.

When I was little I loved to have my parents read to me! My favorite was either 'Fox in Socks' or 'One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish'. I think i just loved hearing my mom and dad stumble over the words. *laughs*

Hmmm. I think my most favorite childhood book I can remember is Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. When I heard there was a movie based on the book coming out I got pretty excited, but I still haven't gone to see it.. yet, at least.
@ Koonan
Haha, me too! The only reason I ever wanted my parents to read to me when I was little was to hear them get their tongues tied with all the rhyming and such.. rhyming kids books are awesome.

It'd have to be Adam and Rosie's magical adventure. They flew off to this strange planet on a swing and there were these rocks that tasted of strawberry or cola and things like that and what ever they dropped on the floor came to life! (summit to do with the space dust xD) And the little boy drops his bear and it becomes a huge polar bear and he's really nice, but the older boy drops his 2 toy robots and they become huge evil things and well yeah...awesome little story! If anyone else has read this book please pm meeee! =D

I love Fairy tales a achild, and I still do even though I'm in college. But my parents mever read them to me; I would read those on my own. My two favourites that were read to me were "A You're Adorable" and "There's a Monster at the End of This Book". "A You're Adorable" was a book that taught the alphabet in song with compliments like 'b, you're so beautiful'. "Monster at the End of this Book" was a Sesmae Street book featuring Grover. He warned ofa monster at the end of the book and freaked out everytime you turned that page, only to find out taht he was, in fact, said monster. Great read for kids when parents read it in a funny voice.

I didn't like to read so much at that young of an age. I started to love reading when I was in High School. The first book I ever read for pleasure was "Gone with the Wind". lol.
I was bored one summer and picked up this book from my mom's library. I always liked the movie, so I tried the book. I have been reading since then.
I love reading so much that I work in a public library now.
The books I loved as a kid were: The Tiny Family, and the The Busy Postmen - a little golden book.
