There is plenty of things to be done around the site. My favorite would be to play the games, where you can earn up to 500 gold daily. It's fun and it's a great way to make gold.
Another think you can do is to post around the forums. You can talk to a lot of other great members and earn some gold while doing it. Just be sure to read the rules about posting, as they are different from some other avatar based sites.

Um, as far as the next event goes, I have no idea when that is.
However, you can get the moon through the menewshan exchange forums, you just have to find someone who is selling one. They cost about 150g right now, I think.
