Sorry guys, but I have some bad news.

My father passed away today of esophageal cancer. T_T He had previously had lung cancer, and it moved into his esophagus. He spent several years in treatment, but ended up with a throat trach, constant oxygen and a feeding tube. At the end of December, he told me the doctors had given him a year to live. He sent me his will and power of attorney, and that's when I knew things were serious. My stepmom called me on Monday and told me that my sister and I should come see him soon, because he didn't think he'd live to his birthday (Jan. 28). I made flight reservations immediately and was supposed to be there tomorrow. Unfortunately, I didn't make it in time.

We did talk last week, and I got to say my goodbyes. Amends were made, and I think he knew he'd be going soon... I have been trying to prepare myself for this day for a while now, and while it's not been an easy day, I know he's no longer suffering, and is finally free of the body that caused him so much pain.

I'm putting this thread on hold for a while. I'll do my best to tally the votes tomorrow and post a winner. After that I'm going to look for someone else to run this thread in my stead. If any of you long-time thread-goers are interested, shoot me a PM. This thread is one of the longest running in AC, and I'd hate to see it die.

For now though, I'll put a hiatus notice in the thread title...

my condolences for you and your family. I understand your loss due to my own recent loss of my grandfather to cancer. I hope that you can overcome your sadness and loss with the help of your family and friends. Please know that you are not alone.

Take your time - we don't care about the votes and the winner. That can wait. What's important is your family and being there for them. That happens in a very similar fashion to my uncle last fall...and my stepdad had made flight plans to go see him and he passed away the day before the flight. It was very hard on him and so I can imagine how hard it is for you. Please take care! <3

My condolences Sizzla, I'm glad his suffering has ended. I can understand how you feel, I never got to see my grand father before he passed away from lung cancer. I hope you can feel better soon, lots of love from me.
