To me the middle just looks funny. mostly cause there is too much gold and none at the bottom. Also the blue hair and skirt aren't the same shade of blue.

Head-wise, that's a pretty tough blue to match o.e
I agree about the gold, though. There needs to be some at the bottom, even if it's just a teeny bit.
Maybe one of those really cheap moon necklaces to put something on your neck?

Anyway, your avatar looks nice at first gland, but you notice some things when looking at it some more ^^" needs more gold and a bit more blue on bottom and black on top, mainly. I love that blue color though O:

Hokay so I've got some ideas rattling around in my head:


I really wanted the hat with this one - but it put me over budget. The hat made it look kind of rag-tag and as if it had been worn a lot.

Pretty much the same, I would just add shorter socks of either opposing color (brown on the first, green on the second). When I think of Goodwill I think of old coats and plaid.


Again with the plaid, these were the closest pants I could find - and a scarf-belt seems so Goodwill to me. I go there a lot with my inlaws.

I really would like to make an avatar around one of the shosho belts but I have yet to come up with one that I'm happy with. So, thoughts on these? I'm not particularly attached to any of them.

Navi -
1 looks a little too fancy. The goggles, space top and skirt don't seem right for it.

The second two are good, but the hair is way too light and I don't like the green shoes.

Last one's okay, but the hair doesn't work, and it needs more work overall.

Navi: I like the first one, but I agree that it does look a bit too fancy.

I think the sweater and scarf in the second two work great for the challenge, but I don't actually like the avatars as a whole too much. I think you could work more with those items though.

It's missing a couple of things, as Mac doesn't include everything. I was thinking the black long sleeve shirt under the other shirts/gauntlets, some kind of hat, and different avie features. I'm running low on gold, though, so I may need to edit.

I was reading some ideas.....and somehow the faded washed Idea stuck with me....this is what I came up with.....this challenge is hard.



Change- the shorter hair of this style....it just isn't in the MAC......

Cami - The browny goldy colors really do scream vintage. seventies or something.
A head item wouldn't hurt, though.

Cora - I see what you're going for, but it doesn't really look second-hand at all. More princessy than anything.

Ehh, maybe, it just doesn't seem to fit, you know? I mean, they'd take anything, so with that logic, you can put anything on your avatar. You basically have to go with the norm. And I don't see halloween costumes when I go to consignment shops.

Hmm, I don't live in the US, so I have no idea what Goodwill and the Salvation Army sells. ^^;; I only have a rough idea, but, any clarification would be awesome. :3 <3

Depending on your area, you can find some awesome stuff that you wouldn't expect to find. (I got a really awesome almost Titanic dinner-gown dress the last time I went to our local one. And some really awesome skirts.)

The problem, really, is that the challenge asks you to make it look like you bought it from one of these places. (So you'll be working with perceptions more than reality.)

I would suggest you think of what people might donate to a charity. That means older items, usually very used. So anything that looks a bit worn out, stretched out, faded, or hopelessly out of style that it's not even 'vintage awesome'.

I also sort of think of 'churchy' people. So long skirts show up a lot. And stuff that doesn't fit really flatteringly.

And because I think there's this perception that only really poor people shop there, they tend to have a lot of "stay warm" items, like old jackets and scarves and stuff.

So, in short: Reality says you can find everything. But perception means you should stay away from items you definitely would wear yourself.

I, personally, would stay away from anything leather and any intricate jewelry or accessories.
