Irish and Scottish accents are so different, I can tell the difference between those easily
I can also tell the difference between some variations of British but not all of them

There are differences between Aussie accents from difference states but they're mostly really subtle... accents from my state are closer to British accents, more posh than from Melbourne or Sydney or anywhere in Queensland
and there's always the bogan accent xD

Ugh, I hate New York accents.
My bus driver for the college is from New York, and he has a really bad one. And he is also latino, so its a weird mix of accents. It drives me nuts, though. I dont like listening to him talk, and he never shuts up.

it is sort of like Fran from the Nanny when I pronounce certain words. They say besides that my accent they can't place, but it certainly is not southern. People thought I was born in another state...

Donna, it is not as great as it sounds. It sometimes gets really annoying. Because I have to Stop myself and think about it in order to pronounce the word without that NY twist.

I don't pronounce r as strongly as I should, so it's occasionally confusing. For example, when I say "cruel" it sounds like "cool"

Not quite cherry. that is what weird. It is more like doughter (spelling intentional) , but not quite that either. It is a cross between the two.

l guess something like doughwawter, with somehow pronouncing it in two syllables.

My uncle up here in the Yukon (The one my aunt just married, like 2 days ago.)
Has a REALLY thick Irish accent. XD;
Sometimes he'll talk to me and I have to let my mind try to decipher what he said. :P

Re: Accents~

I'm in Missouri now (which tends to get a more Southern/Ozark accent the further south you go), but I've lived in Kansas 90% of my life, and I have to say that we don't have an accent here, unless you want to call it a 'generic Midwestern accent.' I took a psych of language class, and we learned that the Midwestern 'accent' is the most commonly used accent on TV, in the news, etc. Now certain Midwestern places DO have accents -- Minnesota and Wisconsin for sure. And parts of Illinois probably. And then Oklahoma (I lived there for a bit too) has a pretty generic accent too, but it does get a Southern/Texas lean on it at times, depending on who you're talking to. XP
