Of the two people in that situation, Cami, I don't believe you are the racist one.

Eeeexactly.
My mom told me that when she used to work at a bank, one time this guy came in and tried to make a withdrawal or something, and she was like "sorry, sir, you don't have that much in your account" and he got mad and said basically the same thing that guy Cami saw said.
Racism is an awful thing... it's just plain insulting to their own culture to throw accusations of racism around when nothing's happened. :/
No one is exempt from any rules due their race. Not white people, not black people, not latinos or asians or anyone else. Asking for special treatment due to your race is... asking people to be racist.

Word.

I got it all the time at where I used to work. Okay. Not "all the time", but at least once a week. Over the stupidest things, too. "Sorry.... We're out of Reeces cups." "Is it because I'm black?" No, sir, our ingredients aren't racist and neither am I.

I guess I'm lucky that we don't have much racism over here. =\
It mostly happens with the "Filipinos" and the "Muslims", who don't consider themselves Filipinos right now.
It's a complicated situation. ^^;;
But yeah, it's probably not as bad as yours, but there are instances here indeed. =\

CK - Once a week?! Oh god, I would go insane. o-o
Luckily, having not yet had a job, I haven't had to deal with that personally. And that's good. I'd probably just be like "Yes," and walk away. xD
Stupid question = stupid answer

Sometimes it was a joke... but sometimes it was hard to tell and sometimes it definitely wasn't. :p I don't get it.

:pokes head in:
Haha I've been accused of racism because my skin is white.
I'm a mutt of European, Native American, Filipino, and Mexican cultures.
I'm attracted to blacks and Hispanics.
I have one "white" friend, the rest are Hispanic and Filipino.
My sister in law, nephews, and nieces are Filipino.
So how in the hell am I racist?
Wow...I never even thought about how much of other cultures I'm involved in before that post. xD
I usually just ignore people like that. They're ignorant idiots. THEY want to talk about slavery when they never even had to go through segregation and the civil rights movement. They heard about it in classes/from other people same as I did. We never had to experience such a trouble.
/rant. xD

I don't really have my friends as an excuse... I have an asian friend, and just about everyone else I know is white. xD; It's not on purpose or something. I just... I don't know why I don't know many people of other races. ._. Everyone's... German. xD;

I grew up in a super homogeneous community, so I only had one ethnically diverse friend at high school who was Latino. My school was like 90% Caucasian. >__>; I've since been able to meet more people and have spent all summer working with people with different ethnic backgrounds. It's awesome to share cultural experiences. <3

However, I hate that the notion of "race" still hangs around when there's nothing scientific about it. There really isn't any genetic distinction between "races", which I wish was taught more openly in schools.

Well, some races are more predisposed to certain illnesses, are they not?

It's not a racial thing, it's a location thing. Such as saying African Americans are more likely to have sickle cell anemia. That's true for America, but the disorder simply appears in areas where malaria is common - one of those places happens to be Sub-Saharan Africa, but it's also prevalent in the Mediterranean.

EDIT: On an unrelated note, can someone suggest an item to put on my head? I wanted to add a red headband, but that would unequip my horns. =/ The hairpins layer over the scythe for some reason, so that would have to be small.

I've worked in alot of industries, food and corporate and retail and I must say the accusations of being racist come worst in the food industry.

I always used to serve left to right so I would remember who ordered what. There was this table where there was a black woman and her son, and a white woman. The white woman happened to be on my left.....this woman started screaming bloody murder and calling me things such as a racists slut who needs to crawl in a hole and die....and that our type of people all deserve to just go extinct for treating them the way we did and still do....

I don't think in all of my jobs that I've ever been accused of being a racist. I've been called an asshole because we didn't have a certain product in, but never had the racist card pulled on me.

The point when all races are truly equal is when nobody feels the need to point race out. I felt that way about the American election. Everyone was going on and on about how momentous it was that we elected a black president. What would truly be momentous is if we could elect a black president and nobody even commented that he was black.

Donna - Yeah. I'm sure people are still discriminated against. Especially in small communities where very little intermingling of any kind goes on. But they didn't experience what their parents/grandparents/great-grandparents/greater-grandparents did.

On the subject of relationships with other races... I'm a military brat, so I can't think of any races I haven't come into contact with. Certainly I have no problem with any of them/have been friends with several people of each race subtype. (Though if we're counting Indian as in ethnically-from-India or Arabic of some sort, I can't say I've been more than very casual friends with them because I haven't met as many.) Hnn... Most of my "best" friends have been white or Asian, though. And I think that was largely a matter of diverging interests/incompatible schedules in the people of other races I'd come across and been friends with. It's difficult to be particularly close if you have friends on sports teams when you're not interested in sports and are more interested in sitting in your room on the computer. Doesn't make you not-friends, just means you don't spend enough time together to become especially close.

Rambling. :P

Cora - That's how I worked too. I tried to keep in mind who came in first, but when you're in the middle of a rush, it's not always so simple to remember who came in first when you're also trying to remember orders. But when in doubt, I'd generally go for whomever was on the left (reading left to right) or who made eye contact with me first. And so I've skipped over people of all color that way, and gotten a comment or two like that before.

Cami - That's the way I feel about it. Peh.

Yeah, I have to agree location does play a part in who you hang out with. In my town, there's a lot more Filipinos, and in my city, there's generally a lot more Hispanics. I do live about 20 minutes from the border so it's inevitable. I went to a rich[er] kid high school though with mainly white people, but I didn't fit in with most because most were either too preppy, or emos.
I have to agree with Cora though. When people stop discussing the matter is when it'll officially be over.
