The reason I bought some of the panties was for laying purposes, actually. LOL. The ones with the \ / <-- extra angle strappies can show outside of some skirts/pants and add a bit of interest to a bare belly.

CK, you have a lighter use of the layering system than I do though. I find it extremely hard to be showing much of the skin on any given avatar that I make because I know that I could use that extra layering to make the avatar that much better. I think its all a personal style thing.
