Wow.. third year, second course.. that's way more than I've ever taken/learned. =P
XD That sucks, and is kinda amusing, that once you graduate you probably won't be able to use anyways. :lol:
What university does Ferra go to? O:

Well I'll be teaching in Japan for a year or two after I graduate if all goes well, so I'll have a chance to use it and learn the language for real.
I go to a university in Washington.

Does Sizz work for a newspaper or something? O:
*wonders what kinda companies/businesses would have newsletters* owo;
Aw, Ferra gets to live in Japan for a while! >w< I envy you.. cause even though I've been there already, I don't feel like I've seen everything yet. Japan has so much cool and interesting stuff! >w<
And I've never seen sakura trees up front and close! It's always in pictures. D:
Wow.. Ferra's on the west coast! >w< ...I think.

Ferra: Ooh, sounds fun. I took three years of Japanese, and I wish I'd gone to Japan to teach for a year afterwards.

Then I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself again when you go there, if everything works out, and I hope they do! <3
And I take it you'll be teaching English? O:
When you went a few summers ago, was that when you saw the pink neenja? XD
*still can't believe pink neenjas actually exist in real life!* >w<;;

I work for an association of copy machine dealers. We do all kinds of things for our dealers, but the one thing that's the majority of my job is working on the magazine. I lay out and edit all of the stories that come in, as well as write stories occasionally. I also do our weekly newsletter, all of our e-mail blasts about our classes/announcements/etc., create all of our promotional materials (ads, handouts, booklets, postcards, etc.) as well as update our website. Remarkably, most of the time I have a pretty casual, fun work environment. But this time of year is the busy time -- I've got a lot on my plate right now, as our biggest issue is this month, so I have a ton of articles to lay out and edit, not to mention I have to do all of our promotion for our big industry trade show at the beginning of March.

Yes, that's when I saw the pink ninja. XD Keep in mind those were actually tourists since I was visiting a tourist attraction all about ninjas (my host family took me there). I did see "real" ninjas too, but they were dressed in fairly normal clothes. They had really cool weapons demonstrations and a museum full of interesting stuff. And a castle. 8D

Wait, the pink ninjas were actually TOURISTS, Ferra? D: And I thought they actually exist.. >w<;
Wow.. ninjas in normal clothes, hiding from everyone and anyone.. owo; Kinda of a scary thought if you can think of it that way.. D:
Oooo, a castle! Do you have any pictures of it, Ferra? O:

Ropes are fun, as are the slave bracelets and things, but it just doesn't compare to a good sturdy chain and a solid pair of handcuffs. D:
I want to go to Japan to look at some of the buildings and artwork I studied this past semester. xD It was teh awesome.
@Ferra
Wow. Lots of stuff. Do you have templates you use for the magazine, emails, promotional stuff, etc.?

Okay, I've done my judging... again.
@Anthony ~ I think you meant me, not Ferra... XP Some things do have templates -- the e-mail blasts for instance have a set format, and sometimes I can just copy those from past blasts, which makes it a lot easier. The same is true for the magazine layouts most of the time, because my boss doesn't want the magazine to look creative -- he wants it to look business-like. So I don't really get to do fun design for the magazine much either, which is what I'm really interested in. BUT I do get to design all of our ads, postcards, flyers, etc. myself, so those get to be a BIT more fun, within reason. Again, my boss is very type A about some things, and he thinks that the more information you can cram into an ad, the better. My design philosophy is completely different though (I :heart: white space!), so it's taken some getting used to. Now that I know what he wants and likes, it's a lot easier to deal with... But I can only stretch the boundaries so far...
The stuff that takes the most time is editing and reading and editing and reading... I think I read and edit each article at least 4-5 times over the course of a month. And still, we find stuff wrong after we send the magazine to the printer. :gonk:

Arikana: Oh, yeah. No matter how many times you edit something, a typo is going to make it through to the final version. It's inevitable.

Totally Cami. Totally.
Both my boss and I read it 4-5 times, and it also goes around to the other four people in the office once. Most of those people don't know much about editing, but I do have one Grammar Nazi who's really good -- she's the woman in charge of our database, so she's really meticulous and knows a lot about grammar.
But yeah, no matter how many times you read it, something will get through. You read something so many times that the words just seem to blend together after awhile... I hate days when I have to read the whole magazine multiple times (the day we send to the printer). My eyes and brain are SOOO tired after that.

Random: My roommate asked me if I was voting for Martha Coakley (it's a Massachusetts thing), and I said, "I don't know. I don't even know who the other candidate is." Her, "A republican." I give her a look. Her, "A nameless republican. I'm not giving him any additional press coverage by saying his name."
Sizz: I know exactly how you feel. I edited this book a few years back that was then read by my mother's book group. I read through the entire book four times, so many hours spent on this, and then when I went to her book club, the members told me about all the typos they'd found.

@Sizz and Cami- Are you guys editors for a living? That's so cool! :D
I'm a copyeditor for my school's newspaper, and a total grammar nazi, but every time a new article is up, my friends point out all the spelling errors I missed. Dx
