I see. I find it really fascinating, actually. It makes me wonder what causes some people to find eating meat gross and others not to. =3
Thanks for humouring my curiosity, by the way. <3

The veal industry is notoriously more cruel than the beef industry.

I guess I think of it more that a plant can not think for itself....this sets them apart from animals. You also can eat a variety of plants without killing them.

After all, you're ripping them up from the roots.

What Keyori said.
Albeit all the animals that are slaughtered for food are treated very poorely, I just wont eat veel or lamb. For the baby calves, they're forced to live in very small tight cages so that they can't grow or move much because they dont want them to gain muscle. So its something that makes me sad, so I wont eat them.
My family are hunters, really, so i've had plenty of deer and have had a bit of bear. I have had frog legs before, too, and they're rather good. I can't remember if i've had rabbit, quail, or snake, but I know my dad has. He's had a lot of different kinds of meat. lol
I personally dont think there is anything wrong with eating meat. It is the way of life with most all animals, and always has been. Its a way of keeping a little order in the world and not allowing different species to overpopulate. At least, thats how it more so use to be before we decided to take over the world and ruthlessly take over everythings homes. -__- I personally think that dinosaurs should still be alive or some other higher creature to kill off some humans. We're waaaaay overpopulated. Its so gross.
Also, its good for your body to eat meat. Yes, some of it is bad for you, and the fat is no good, but it has a lot of stuff in it that is good for you. I for one need to eat a bit of meat to help keep my iron up because I have anemia. But I also have peanut butter and spinach and what not in order to keep it up, too.
But honestly, I just love the taste of meat. It can taste very good when cooked right. But I also kind of think that I would prefer that life was back where you had to hunt your own meat if you wanted it. I mean, I dont approve of the slaughterhouses and their systems and I do find it very sad. But I also hate it when people pointlessly kill. I like the saying that if you kill it, you eat it. For us, we kill bluejays (I think they're actually the steller jays - sp? )whenever we see them in our backyard (they destroy other birds' nests and kill the babies, so we hate them), but we feed them to our snake so that she has extra food to eat. We also kill wild rats that we find in the backyard for the same reason.

I find that sad, too, Cora.
But I suppose that if the fur came from an animal that was already killed and used for meat, then thats not as bad. But just killing animals ruthlessly in order to get their fur is just wrong. :<
In this age, we do not require fur to keep us warm to stay alive, so its hardly a neccessity of life and a pointless accessory

Happy belated birthday, Cami!
Hope Seiki is okay.
BELOW THIS LINE I WILL DISCUSS DELICIOUS MURDER.
_______________________________________________
So far, after beef and chicken, my favorite meat is kangaroo. I've had it as a sausage and as a hamburger and it was delicious both ways. :heart:
Considering most Aussies I've spoken to consider 'roo to be pests and hazards and murderers, as one might consider possums (albeit possums that drown other animals for shits and giggles), I feel no guilt about eating them. Only city-bred Aussies seem to be all sad-faced about people eating them.
Ostrich and emu were both just "okay". I'd prefer turkey. Can't say anything about duck or quail as I haven't had them recently enough to scale them.
I've had crocodile several times and never been impressed.
Can't remember snake, but I prefer to avoid it.
Never had goat and I can't remember sheep/lamb.
As for fish... I avoid freshwater as I learned in biology that freshwater fish are close enough to freshwater humans that parasites in those freshwater fish may be able to attach to humans. Saltwater fish, not so easily. I prefer fish like tuna and salmon when I do eat fish.
I'm not sure what I feel about seafood. Lobster's okay, but not worth the price. Crab can be either very good or very bad. I like clams/mussels/oysters in stews, but that's the way I would rather eat it. Will not eat them raw. Scallops are the most delicious things ever. Shrimp... I don't like the poo-vein and for the most part will only eat pre-de-veined shrimp. I tend to prefer the smaller shrimp too. The larger ones start edging into the lobster meh-ness.
Crayfish are less to me than lobster. I won't eat them.
And because I forgot to cover it earlier, pork is kinda a meh-meat to me. It can be prepared nommable, but I'd choose most meats over it.

Sounds pretty interesting, CK
Yeah, i've heard how people eat Kangaroos and what not. I am not sure what to think of it. I've also heard before about what pests they are, so I suppose it is rather understandable. lol At least they're making use of the meat if they're going to kill them anyway.
I love seafood, personally. Going to all you can eat chinese buffets is awesome. They often have a lot of seafood, and its just deliciuos. There are these little crab things, and I could eat so many of them. Oomg, now I really wanna go out to a chinese buffet. lol ><;; Maybe i'll see if my parents want to go out tomorrow night for dinner.
I'll eat freshwater fish, but I dont care for the taste of them much. They're mediocure in taste, and I dont think its worth all the effort of trying to get through those blasted little bones. -_-
And I agree that pork is rather blah. Pork chops and stuff just aren't that great. They're so dry. I do love bacon, though. Mmm, bacon. Makes me want a BLT.

AGREED.
I ate very little freshwater fish up to that point, mostly out of feeling like I "had to". But now I eat none if I can help it.

In just FIVE HOURS AND 44 MINUTES, I WILL BE FREEEEE~!!! 8DD;;
...
Just have to get through this four hour-long exam. @ [email protected];;
...
Just sharing since I'm bored of studying, Chuzzle, Feeding Frenzy, Facebook, FML, and, well, I miss Mene. xDD;;
Anyhows, to not seem too off-topic, I'm a seafood lover. :drool: <3<3
It's expensive, yes, but it can be very worth it depending on how you cook it. ^^ I'm probably just lucky though in that my dad is a chef and knows how to prepare fresh seafood into delicious meals that can put restaurants to shame.
As for the difficulty in getting bones out of fish... can't say I relate. Fish is a staple in Filipino meals, so you pretty much learn how to take bones out with ease pretty early on. ^^;;

@Keyori: Oh, I didn't know that. Is this a worldwide phenomenon or just in the United States? =3
@Cora Lorington: I see. On the topic of fur, I'm sort of with Suona. I find killing animals for sustenance more acceptable than for vanity. If the fur comes from animals that are already killed for food, that's fine; by all means, we might as well not waste the fur. But when people kill 50 minks JUST to make a mink coat, that's terrible. :(
@Suona: Aside from my liking the taste of meat, my body has problems digesting carbohydrates, so if I consume too much of it, I get diarrhoea. Since I can't really eat carbs, what would I really eat if I quit eating meat too? :lol:
@CK: The only thing I haven't eaten in your list is kangaroo, I think. XD" About seafood, I generally like seafood as long as it's fresh and cooked the right way. Fish isn't as good when it's not killed RIGHT before you cook it, and overcooking it by even five minutes can make a good fish taste mediocre. Overall, the general consensus I hear a lot is that seafood is like tofu: they don't do it right outside of Asia. :rofl:
@Rylynne: Good luck with the exam! <3 And I know exactly what you mean about bones and fish. Every fish connoisseur knows that the best-tasting ones are the ones with the most bones, right? XDDD" Also, I love Filipino food. :drool:

@ Ry - Yay for being almost free!
I personally can't wait for tomorrow to be over. lol It's my Friday, and I just can't wait to sit down from my stressful week. I'm currently working on a research paper that is due tomorrow, and its so hard to concentrate now that my mom is home and has the TV on. >_>
Seafood! :heart:
Sooo amazing. I just adore it. And sushi is awesome.
Eh. I pretty much mean trout. Which is the fresh water fish that we tend to eat. Yeah, you can get the bones off okay, but it still takes time to get them off and to pull any little ones out, and I get impatient. Haha. I like to just eat my food without fiddling with it. But yeah, I've been eating them since I was young, too. We fish every now and again, and my dad loves fishing. We'll also being going down to Mexico for a fishing trip in August for 3 days. I didn't care much to go along, but my parents promised to bring me to the San Diego zoo beforehand, and that was a good enough trade for me. ;P
@ Luenola - I dont think I could ever drop meat anyway. ><;; I love it too much. Its a big chunk of what I eat, and its one of the foods I enjoy the most. Especially tri-tip. Mmm. We're having some tonight, too.

I guess it's pretty much how I feel about leather. I mean, we're killing cows for food already, so by all means, put the hide to good use too. The minks really don't have to die. >.>"
At least you get a break, Suona. I feel like all I see on my calendar are datelines. It's dreadful. I have something due almost every day. DD: Yeah, I do like the taste of meat. :lol:
