Don't worry about not having posted, you sure were incredibly busy! :o I don't see how you managed to cram in all the school work and find time to do all that writing and revision. (but I guess it was all the sleep hours you didn't use).

Under one more week guys. I'm really excited because I have a five day weekend at the start of NaNoWriMo, so I'm hoping to get a nice head start this time. I went all out this year and went and bought a really pretty journal to write in and got a NaNoWriMo desktop.
I hope you guys are as ready to go as I am!

Oh no! I'm really not sure what's gonna be thrown on me next month. All I know is that I have to finish these projects I'm working on now so I can relax and get started. Well, even if you don't have time to finish, you should at least participate and write something.

I cannot read in that font you posted O-o ... I had to copy and paste it into notepad to read anything ... anyways ... I am going to be participating as well this year like I did last year.
Last year I actually started November 15th and I finished one day ahead of time. I am very proud of myself for doing that too. This year I will be starting on November 1st since I am ready this year. I have my story in my head and ready to type it out.
I can't wait for NaNoWriMo to start XD ... I am very excited to get typing on my new novel.

I'm participating in NaNo... for year 5, I think it is. My username on NaNo is beryl.
So far, I have a few different ideas floating around, but I'm not sure what I'll be writing yet. I guess I'll be deciding over the next few days... or I'll wake up on November 1 and write whichever seems pretty good at the time.

You really can't read it? Maybe your computer is replacing it with something weird, because, it's really not that complicated... I can't believe you finished in 14 days, that is incredible! I'm ready to break in my new notebook.
Aeva, you haven't figured out your idea yet? Well, I guess five years will kinda use up your main ideas. Good Luck!

I know what you're talking about sevens. I have just about twelve more hours until NaNo starts. I'm hoping that handing out candy will help pass the time until then. I seriously can't wait. I've been having dreams about this for the last couple days! O.O

Welcome Kerry! I'm having trouble adding people at the moment because I seem to have lost the authors tab. I'll be sure to add the last couple of your guys once I locate it again.
As of this moment I have 1200 words.

My computer is weird .. I have the font file, but unless the size is a big number .. I can't read it unless I copy and paste it into notepad.
And yep, I am still very proud of myself. I am sure that if I keep it up I will write much more than 50k this year. I just need to stay focused. Last year I literally wrote any time I could get my hands on a laptop or desktop. I had my novel stored in my flash drive so I could just plug it in, bring it up and write XD ... I recorded 11,000 words in one day. I took a screen shot of it for memories,
Good memories, yes. I had lots of fun though. Crazy daily word counts, I pretty much impressed myself; lol.

I just joined up a little bit ago, so this will be my first year participating. (My SN there is the same as here.) I'm doing a little typing this morning before work, so I've got 7100 words atm, and hoping to have a greater count tonight. I don't know if I'll make it, I definitely won't hit the max in such a short time as you, Shy, but I'm going to do my best.

Man, if I had a laptop, then I'd be typing my story, but I don't, so I'm handwriting. That is quite the achievement, I would have taken a screen shot too!
Welcome Nightgaunt. You may have been a little late joining, but you're already ahead of me. -jealous- Like I said to a couple of the more recent people, I'll add you as soon as I figure out how to get to the misplaced Authors page.
At my last check I was at around 3500 and I'm about to go get some more writing in. I was about 1500 words in when I figured out that the way I was writing it wasn't gonna work, so I've written the beginning over again and I'm liking it better now. I'm a little shocked though, I've never done that while I was in the process of writing.

Last year I did have to hand write a little bit when I couldn't get to a computer. But after I wrote that chapter like that my hand was hurting and I didn't try that again. I didn't have a laptop last year either, I bacially .. erm ... confiscated my fiancee's laptop when he had it with him in the car .. hehe. Fun times .. fun times ^_^.
I think I am behind in how much I should have by now. Mainly because I am sick right now so my writing motivation is pretty low. I only have 3,687 words written. Egh ... I have just been trying to keep the daily word count of 1,667 words a day until I feel better. So by the end of today I need to have a little over 5k words.
How is everyone else doing in their word counts?

I've always written by hand, so my hand is pretty used to it. I actually am too easily distracted on the computer, so this is probably a good thing.
The goal for today is 5001 words, so you're really not that bad off. I'm sure you'll be able to catch up fine, and go crazy writing once you're feeling better.
I made it to 5100 words at the moment. i'm having trouble with the NaNo site at the moment, but last time I checked on everyone's word count, the people who had anything were pretty caught up. They must avoiding Menewsha for the sake of their writing.

I've been having problems with the Nano site as well O_o .. I think everyone is ... i can't even get a cool widget to put in my siggy *sniff*
Your already past 5k? Thats awesome! And I think its cool you can write by hand for so long.
I am trying to at least stay on schedule. I have a all night write-a-thon in my area that I'm going to go to at the end of the week ... I'm going to use that time to write as much as I can XD ... lol. Hopefully I will feel better by then. ^_^
Yea, I find seeing an internet icon in my task bar distracting so I have to close the window so I don't get distracted by the temptation to click it and surf XD ... internet is tempting when your on the computer O_o ...

Yea, I got that far, and then I didn't write anymore all day. I'm going to go back to it soon though, try and get ahead before I go back to school and it slows me down. The only problem with me writing by hand is that my notebook is kinda small so I gotta write tiny so I won't have to buy another one.
Man, I want to go to an all night write-a-thon. The only get-togethers in my area are from 3-6 on Sunday and about a half-an-hour away. At that point I don't feel like going.
I tend to drift off when I can't figure out how to word something so I'll pop on the internet and check my stuff. Especially with this event going on, I keep popping back every ten minutes for candy, it's very distracting. I have to go sit on my bed on the other side of the room to avoid getting on the computer and doing something else.
I just checked everybody's word count(that I have) on the NaNo site and the people who have updated are between 3k and 4k with one person in 1k. Two people don't have any at the moment.

My main problem so far is that my writing comes and goes, so I feel like I'll be flying along and then everything just dries up. It drives me a little crazy, so I go from feeling like "awright! I can TOTALLY do this!" to "Damn, never going to make it!" It is a good exersise though to see how much I can write and how fast, so even if I don't make the full count by the end of the month, I'll have a pretty good bit going on doing something I wanted to anyway.

Don't worry to much about it Nightgaunt, everyone is feeling that way. That's why I had to start over, because what I was writing pretty much died under my pen. It was awful and I had to make a new starting point to stop it from being awful. I definately encourage you to keep writing whenever you can (I know you already said you would) because you never know what you can do until...well, you do it. :)

My word count was just updated. I reached a little over 5K words (5,075 to be exact, lol). *feels proud* I'm staying on track! ^_^ When I go to that all-nighter I hope to write at least 10k words if not more. We are going to be in an internet cafe, so I need to keep my self distracted to NOT go on unless I need to check for a name or something. Everything else I put in a reference sheet so I don't have to keep referring back to my 1st book. I think writing a sequel is easier than writing a story from scratch because you have your characters, and a semi-build plot in most cases. XD ...
Have you tried to organize one in your area? Maybe you could get one together and see how many people would be interested and go. I think it will be fun and a good time to get away from distractions.
After you write it do you type it on the computer to count or do you hand count?

Writing a sequel is definately easier. I think writing the first one is also harder because you have to create elements to carry over into the sequel. I really should write character sheets, but I keep all of it my head. I don't even have an outline. D:
See it would be hard to get something together for my exact area, because it's a small town. I haven't heard of any people in this exact area so it would be hard to find enough people to want to participate. Then it's hard to get something organized in the bigger areas because I'm very familiar with them.
I hand count my words after I finish each page. I don't start typing until December, or sometimes even later then that.

I see how it would be hard for you get get a group together :( .. I guess for me that's an advantage of living in a big city like vegas.
Hand counting seems like it would be hard to do... you just take it one word at a time or do you notate how many words there are on a line? Or some other way to make it easier?
------
Yea, when I ended my first story I left one of my characters to go to the mainland because ... well the island where my characters are ... they are bacially on (as you can call) thin ice to the point if something went wrong it could start a war. So that's what's going to be happening in this second story. The ice breaks and a war breaks out between the island and the mainland.
Other than that .. I have no idea how to really line it up. I am thinking of having a group of the guardians (aka guards) being sent over as messengers, but in turn then kill a massive amount of people on the mainland. Stirring up the war.
But then I wonder .. is that possible to do ... is it possible for a king or a queen to send over a group of their guards as a messenger like that? What is the typical consequence for the guards who commit that kind of treason? Immediate death or trial?
In a way this is hard for me as well, because before I get to that part I need to research about treason and messengers of the king. O_o ... I still have a lot of research that I should have done before hand.

I actually count word for word. It's gotten to the point where I can count and be thinking about something else at the same time. Because I'm writing in a small notebook, I can fit, at most, 400 words on a page. So I go by hundreds and it's pretty easy not to lose count.
As for your plot hole, I think it makes sense for a king/queen to send over a group to carry a message. There probably wouldn't be a lot of ways for ensuring that a message got to another country, except to have people carry it. Bird carriers would have been unreliable, and unless your story has a very present magic quality, there was no way to send a message quickly to someone else. Important messages probably would have been carried by ambassadors, or (in some books I've read) by trusted people whom the king/queen could trust to deliver if they were going to that area. I think if the message were important enough, then an ambassador would have carried it and he would have had a guard to ensure that the message got to the one it was meant for and that no one else read it.
I'm not sure of the kind of punishment that people would receive for doing something like that, but my guess is that if another country's people come into a country and commit any crime, then they are subject to the law of whatever country you are in. You're question then is, what are the consequences of a country killing the guards of another. Odds are the home country's guards would want proof of the guards crime while the victim country may want immediate revenge.
While you want to research to make it believable, I think it is ultimately up to you.
I hope that helped. o.o;;
