Silver Crusnik also wishes there were more games. XP But overall I think we did pretty good. ^^ If I were to do it again, I probably will just invent my own phrases for the rounds so that no one really will know or can use Google. xDD;; <3<3

As I understand it, Dusty wasn't a fan of hosting Hang Man, not to mention he was busy half the time, so he didn't hold many rounds. I held as many as I could as long as there were people to play, but there weren't always enough people, lol. XD"
:rofl: Well, I wanted something that existed, so that maybe people find something new by playing (such as new music to listen to), but that you couldn't use Google for. I have nothing against using the internet to find information, but if people are winning by using Google, then it gives people with a faster internet connection and better searching skills an advantage that they really shouldn't have because that's not what Hang Man is about. :stare: Yeah, I'm picky about weird things like principles of matters and all that, haha. XDD"
Also, tell Silver Crusnik it's not our fault he only ventured into our thread more than halfway through the event. XP

Humm.. maybe I should have posted it in this thread,
but anyhow, just wanted to say thanks to the Hanged Man hosts for the prize~
I wasn't expecting anything, haha. XD
The fun in the games and chatting was enough for me~ ^w^

Hmm, I see. =O
I didn't host rounds all the time as well. ^^;; Although I can say that there were at least 4 people for most of my rounds, but I guess that's just cause I'm lucky with the timing of my rounds? xDD;; <3<3
And no worries, I totally understand where you're coming from~ =P I think it bothers you more than it bothers me, but since it still does bother me I can still somewhat relate. XP <3<3
And LOLZ, you can tell him then. xDD;;

Do stay to chat too. <3
You're most welcome, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. =)
Oh Ryl, Seito and I concur: You're a people-magnet here on Mene. XD" The timing has nothing to do with it. XP
Eh...it doesn't so much bother me as make me feel like it defeats the purpose of playing Hang Man, lol. I never use Google when I play Hang Man anywhere, so I don't see why anyone should need to, and if people are going to insist on it...well, let's just make it useless. XD"
You're assuming I'll even run into him, lol. I never see Silver during non-event times. XDD"

RyRy - Hehe~ *hugglesquishesback* owo
Luel - I found and subscribed to it when you posted the link in the hangout; I was still lurking in the last hour or so of the event. X'D And well, I just use google as a habit, I guess, just to search anything. XD; I really liked the translated lyrics though. owo In a way, google actually distracted me a bit from the hang man games because I found something interesting and would follow it up through more searches, forgetting that I was supposed to guess another letter. XD
But back to the point, if people are using google, and winning through its searches, they still need the deduction skills to tell what to search for and how to filter through the results. Especially with the translated lyrics, it's not like bam! There's my answer. So, at least in my opinion, google doesn't defeat the purpose of Hang Man, it's just another tool/resource to help. You still need the deduction skills to actually win. o^o
And back to my other personal opinion, I actually like Hang Man more when the phrases are just made up by whoever's holding that round. XD You can still introduce something like new music, that already exists, without using direct quotes that will most likely already appear somewhere on the internet, haha. Something like "[such-and-such-band]'s [some kind of amazing adjective] songs about [enter theme here] touch the deepest part of my soul and make me want to see them live!"
or something. X'D

As I understand it, how Google works for Hang Man in a nutshell is instead of guessing the whole phrase, you only need about four or five consecutive words. Then you run the exact phrase through Google, and knowing the category helps you filter through the results. Then you just need to count the number of blanks to see if they match what Google gives you.
Now, depending on your internet connection speed, how quickly you can do this varies from 1 to 5 minutes, which gives some people an unfair advantage because we take the first correct answer. I don't like this. XD"
With the translated lyrics, almost all the songs I used I knew for a fact had never been translated (Full Moon Prayer) or had been translated with gross inaccuracies (...Lost In Thought; I wince every time I see the subtitles they put into the PV on YouTube) because I've looked for translations in the past. I do translations of Japanese song lyrics a fair bit in what little spare time I have, so I have a general idea of how likely you are to find any exact matches on Google to use to the above technique on, and that's fairly slim. Translating them myself also meant you weren't likely to find a translation done by someone else in the exact same way I do. :lol: This is why the rounds began lasting significantly longer when I started using the translated lyrics.
But if you like it when people just make stuff up, that works for us too. XD" Also, thanks so much for the feedback! :heart:

@ Xiel : You can't say timing had completely nothing to do with it though. >.>;; And no worries, I get what you mean. =O To me, it's like having completely open notes and book/s during an objective exam, so it's like you don't have to study and you just have to be good at finding the right answer. XP And hey, you COULD run into Silver? Who knows? xDD;; <3<3

Yes, that's what I love about Mene~ There's always someone here who I can come back to and easily just pick up where I left off. 83
For other places.. I don't know, it seems like if I left for a time and came back, there'd be this long awkward time when I don't feel comfortable being there anymore.

Aww! It's good to know Mene's such a nice community. <3 Especially since I've only been here for about a year, and since I'm quite the hermit when there aren't any events, I don't know that many people here. *huggles*
I don't see why time makes such a big difference though. Like...doesn't some absence just give people more to talk about? I mean, unless you changed drastically, I don't see why people would treat you that differently. =3

Thank you! I just made it after looking at the Project Mene challenge. A lot of people like it though.

I'm a junior, I now hate english class with a wavering passion, my grandparents are here and adept at guilt tripping me, and... life.

Otherwise, I'm fine!

Ugh, I just wish life would start torturing me. Of course as soon as I decide I don't want any type of relationship during high school I start talking with an old classmate from elementary school.... and start crushing on him.
*smack self*
What makes it even worse for me is that EVERYBODY who has met him (and knows about my crushing) has approved of him.
xD;;;
And the English class is my first Rhetorical Analyzing class. AP english with a ruthless teacher. Though apparently you fail early on to be successful later.
*sigh*
I hope this is the case.
I'm horrible at writing by hand. Only finished 2/5ths of a blue book in-class essay... got a 37%... *siiiigh*
I shee, I shee.
=)
Which really does work since there are no more drips really after the star appears.
*two thumbs up*

Luel - Yeah, that would make sense, wouldn't it? Haha~
But I guess I meant that the forum/site had changed (drastically?) over time, or that the newer people weren't.. as welcoming as the people there when I first joined were, if that makes sense. Kind of reminds me of Gaia as a whole, now that I think about it, heh. >O>;
Mene always seems to have a lot of people welcoming other people though, especially during events. 83 I think that's why I like Mene's events so much. Because so much user-user interaction is easily formed, and I don't see that too often on other sites. 8O

@Hatake Ayumi: XD Well, he must be quite the guy then! :lol:
My problem is that all the men I find attractive are gay. And thus, I'm not even sure I want to know about the guy I like currently. Knowing my track record, I might as well start inviting him to my caucus meeting instead of dinner. XDDD"
Rhetorical Analyzing? What do you do in that?
You could always practice writing by hand? Take notes by hand for instance? =3
Well, yes, the puddle on the ground is the excess, but most of the gold went into forming the star. :yes: <3
@Lura Crane: Hm. I keep hearing horrible things about people on Gaia, lol. It makes me kinda glad I've never been there. They have some really nice items though.
That's true. A lot of the people I've met on Mene are really nice. There have been some exceptions, but I've always had a good impression of this community as a whole, and I really hope it'll stay like that. =)

Haha. One of my best friends met him, silently asked if he was the guy I was crushing on (using a variety of eye and head motions) and when I finally told her yes, she said "Awww, How cuuuute~! What nationality is he?" -"Italian."- "AWWWW, April, How cuuuute~!"
xD;;;
.... Caucus? What is that?
Awww.... You'll find that guy!!!
>I
You will!! *has faith*
Basically we dissect a literary work into its rhetorical devices (Ethos, Pathos, Logos, Parallelism, etc.) and we have to find the significance of each little word and such and GOSH IT IS HARD. I'm pretty sure it is allllll some type of FICTION.
*slams head into desk*
Ugh.... It's mostly I start writing too late. It takes me a while to get started.

Aww, you girls are so cute. XDD"
A caucus is a group organized to further a special interest. In my case, I'm a member of an LGBTIQQA caucus. We're more focused on social networking and support than activism per se, but naturally, we aim for equality and non-discrimination across gender and sexuality expression. SO YOU SEE WHY I THINK I MIGHT AS WELL JUST INVITE HIM TO IT. :lol:
Oh, actually, that class sounds really interesting. I wish I had a class like that when I was in high school. =3

THAT'S the really long ...acronym? that I forgot! In my school we just call in GSA (Gay straight alliance).
=)
Ugh, I'm a member, but so far I haven't been able to make it to the meetings.
:gonk:
But ARE YOU SURE??? What if he ain't?

Uh, well, it's all in the spirit of being inclusive, since not everyone identifies as being either gay or straight so we have Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning and Allies. At some point, we just start calling it alphabet soup. :lol:
Well, even if he isn't, he hasn't shown much interest. Plus, he's younger than me anyway. :stare:
Aww, I'm sorry. But if you weren't graded on it, do you think you would enjoy it? =3

Yes, but the huuuuge long acronym is a turn off for some kids. GSA was easier to remember and use.
=)
