I think math is more important. There is very little we do in life that doesn't involve math.

Plus, you don't need language to understand mathematics. An archaeologist writing about his latest discovery in French would not be able to share his discovery with a Russian peer without translation, but a Chinese mathematician writing out his latest theorem would have his proofs and equations understood immediately by peers anywhere in the world because everyone understands numbers and math operators.
