That sounds like a really creepy tattoo.

Raggedy with a noose around her neck? That's just weird. And she's going to be an old lady in a wheelchair with that thing on her leg. And chains dangling from the crater in her lobe? Chains tend to get caught on things, like hair and clothing. Did she not read the instruction manual that came along with her when she was born that should up her survival rate to by at least 50% if she bothered to adhere to it? I mean - hello, common sense??

I have a butterfly with a skull - a skullerfly - on the back of one of my legs. It remains covered most of the time. I got it when I felt that I was doing better about my 1st husband's death - and didn't want something creepy or cutesy. Just something to celebrate getting through that stage of the grieving process.

I hate these "tribal" tattoos loads of people have.

I can understand it if they belong to a tribe, like if they're Maori or from a culture that tattoos that way. There are some that look nice, but others that look like they're sort of a token - because it's popular.

I've seen people with "tribal" designs and wanted to say to them if that was a proper tribal tattoo it wouldn't have ink it would just be a scar. There are still quite a few tribes who do their tattoos like that out there.

I don't like tattoos at all seeing as I what I associate them with isn't good.

It depends upon the tribe you're referring to. Some do use inks, others are not tattoos - they're scars. It's a process known as scarification instead of tattooing. I was 40 when I had my first, and it was done for spiritual as well as reasons for healing. It was part of, and continues to be a process for those two aspects of my life's journey. I know they aren't for everyone, and that's fine. It would be weird if we were all getting them.

There are tribes that refer to the scars, that have been intentionally done, as tattoos rather than scars. It's acutal name is scarification and it's really horrible seeing as large ammounts of skin are removed.

I knew two 15 year olds who's parents let them have tattoos done, one of them was allowed anything she wanted and the other probibly would have bothered her mother into letting her have it done.

Where I live, you have to be at least 18 even with parental consent. The shop I go to insists that we show ID. Even now, at my great age, I am carded.

Right - that's what I meant about scarification. Tribal tattoos - as they're classified by the body mod sites I've been to - are mostly black/white/grey and more like lines than pictures.

You're supposed to be 18 to get a tattoo but apparently with parental consent you can have it done. I you're supposed to get asked for ID when you're getting tattoos and certain peircings but I know some of them don't ask for ID.

I found out about scarification on a site that classed it as a scarification tattoo. They also had an eyeball tattoo and tattoo implants on there. Why anyone would want there eyeball tattooed is beyond me.

There's a huge body modification site called BME. Beyond the usual stuff you'd see - facial/ear piercings, navel, etc., and tattoos, they showcase very extreme modifications that people do for the sake of doing it. Some is quite disturbing, and I won't even mention it here because it grosses me out just thinking about it. One that I will mention is elective amputations. Some people consider that a form of body modification that they are interested in - fingers, arms, legs, ears, etc. Just... ew

It get to a point where body modification is just too extreem, ok so stretching your ears to have a huge hole in it is ok to a certain extent but having a row of spikes comming out of your head is just taking it too far.

Yes. At my university, there are some African-American fraternities that have some guys who got into branding symbols onto their arms and legs - not tribal though. It was just something their frat did.

I've seen pictures of people who had transdermal implants on their hands, arms and faces. Some of the ones on the faces look like horns. I know this isn't paranormal stuff, but it makes you wonder a bit about what compels people to do that.

Anyhow, it's snowing here for the first time in a few years! Starting to stick to the ground. I think I'll bake some scones in my haunted easy bake oven!

Maybe it is something paranormal that compells people to do these things to themselves.

I've just been on google and apparently there was a haunted tea pot sold on eBay. There was also a haunted painting which apprently all cleansings attempts have failed.

Wow - wonder if they tried burning it. I know that's extreme, but fire is a purifying agent as well as one that destroys.

Apparently it was found abandoned and then the owners got sick of it scaring their child and sold it.

That's a really creepy picture on its own. The pic started to show the figures moving and then exiting the picture - a la Harry Potter. But way more creepy. Thank you for sharing the link!

That painting doesn't need that story to be creepy. Then again a few surrealish paintings are creepy.

Exactly! I mean, what possessed the artist to create it? It sounds like it was a spiritualist-type of picture, with the veil represented by the window and hands. Going to poke around on google and ebay. Have you been to etsy? I'm going to check them out also. They sell repurposed and original artwork there, but some of the stuff can be a bit creepy.

I'll have to google him then. I checked etsy, and there are haunted themed items, but nothing I could identify as being considered haunted.

One of my favorite sellers there is "Loved to Death". Some of their items involve taxidermied pieces and are a bit disturbing. I like to look, but can't justify buying anything just yet when I need to buy clothes for a growing baby :)

We were up late as well here. It's started to snow, and we're staying in after all.

I'm not sure about the hair. Hmm... I know that a locket I've had from my great grandmother has her husband's hair in it, and I have a lock of my (now deceased) husband's hair. I'm not sure if the etsy seller used photos that she found elsewhere or if they're from her family. Sometimes people make things to sell from pictures that they find either online or from thrift/antique stores. Did you see the ermine head on that one piece??

I don't like all these taxidermied feet that are on there.

We had hair of a dead relitive it was in an envolope and we didn't know it was there until we open it and then it was like ARGH a chunk of hair!!

You've just got to love the crazy Victorians with their drawing of eyes on dead people's eye lids for a living look when taking photos.
