I don't know who the artist is, that shall be something I shall have to find out because I like the style of it.

There's a photo of an 8 foot tall "ghost" standing infront of an alter in a church. He's pretty freaky looking. It is a really famous one and I've seen it in a ghost book which had all the information about the place and the ghosts.

I've found the photo:

That picture sets the standard for faking a ghost photo. I'd like to try faking a ghost photo just to see who it would turn out when using a digital camera.

There's been alot of debate as to if that's real or not. I'm not sure but if you are going to do a fake ghost photo it has to be done to the standard of genuine ghost photos.
Not like some people with their blurred photo of a ghost child.

There seems to be a haunted painting up on ebay, I think I've seen that painting up for auction before.

I'm dissapointed with the haunted painting it has a rip in it.

I shall have to be gayier than you then *minces round ranting about the lack of gay burlesque bars*

I can't acutally blame them for selling it with a rip in because you always get told not to have it repaired if you're going to sell it because it'll eat into your profit.

I've recently changed to an Acer laptop and everything's more to the left than I'm used to.

Fake:: Kay, I was sitting out on the front steps cause I needed to get out of the house for a second. It was late at night so even the -normal- part of what I saw wasn't really normal. This elderly little lady just came walking around the corner all by herself without a dog, or something to hit a mugger with, or anything. So I was like O_o
She didn't act like she noticed anything, i mean, she didn't even act like she saw me and I had the porch light on and everything.
So as she was walking in the street in front of the house, out of FUCKING NOWHERE, this young woman appears behind her and starts walking to her. I'm sitting on the steps with my mouth hanging open like half off my face, you know? The girl didn't look that much older than me (I could see her like perfectly, like she didn't look transparent or anything) she had dark hair and tan skin, and she was wearing bluejeans and a green teeshirt and had bare feet. So she walks up to the old lady, and touched her arm. The woman stopped, I know she felt it, and then she turned around like she was looking at the girl, and stayed that way for a while, just looking at her, and then she jerked her arm away, and walked the same way she had been going, just faster.
The spirit-which is obviously what she was- just watched her like I did until she went around the corner (and my heart was about beating out of my chest) and then the girl turned around, looked up at ME, and then she like looked like she would cry, and she like hugged herself, and she was just gone. O_O;;;;;
It was fucking insane. :gonk: I went right inside too.

Elmira:: HIM was banned?? D:

Kit - that's completely awesome and creepy! Have you seen either of them since then??

My 1st husband has been haunting us. At least, I think it's him. He passed away 4 years ago around this time of year. Anyhow, I was taking a shower and heard someone walking around in the bathroom, saw a shadow walking toward the sink - through the shower door - and thought it was someone in the room. Nobody answered when I said hello and nobody in the house was at that end of it. My daughter has felt someone tugging on the back of her pants on the waistband. And my old man, who works nights so he sleeps at the other end of the house where it's quiet, woke one night a few weeks ago around 2. Said it got really cold in the room, so he woke to pull the blankets up and saw that the closet door was open (it was closed) and a dark shadow near it. Completely freaked the man out, so I found him sacked out on the couch when we all got up the next morning!

Elmira:: Uh uh not that I know of. ><

And no, but then again, I've actually been looking for them, and it seems like you never see anything like that when you're actually trying to find it, you know?
Aw, that's so freaky, but maybe he just misses you? :<

Guivre:: It was so...real looking. She was like THERE. I kinda want to know who she was...she looked so sad. I wonder too if like the old lady was her mom or something and I don't even know where the hell SHE came from. I've never seen her before and we've lived here for over 5 years. D:

Kitami, that's the thing that someone who comes up with a theory like this just doesn't understand. The ghost I personally saw, like what you just saw, looked totally three dimensional and SOLID until he just poof, disappeared right in front of me.

See ghosts? There may be a medical reason

Spooky footsteps, faint figures, the feeling of being watched – these unsettling signs of a ghost are as familiar to us as the goose bumps on the back of our arm (or neck).

But are there physiological explanations for those things that go bump in the night?

Absolutely, says Joe Nickell, a senior research fellow for the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, an organization that promotes scientific inquiry and critical investigation of paranormal and other extraordinary claims.

“I’ve investigated haunted houses, inns, theatres, graveyards, lighthouses, castles, old jails, and even office buildings,” says Nickell, who’s researched stories of ghosts, vampires, werewolves, sea monsters, psychic phenomenon and other unusual phenomenon for 40 years. “And I’ve never found a paranormal explanation.”

Instead, Nickell says “ghosts” are often the result of pranks, environmental phenomenon, or physiological conditions such as sleep paralysis and the hypnogogic and hypnopompic hallucinations that accompany it.

Dr. Priyanka Yadav, a sleep specialist at the Somerset Medical Sleep for Life Center in Hillsborough, N.J., says sleep paralysis occurs when there’s a disconnect between mind and body while people are going in or coming out of REM sleep.

“It seems like you’re paralyzed, which naturally occurs when you’re sleeping,” says Yadav.

“But this somehow happens while you’re awake. It can last from a few seconds to a minute or two and is often associated with hypnagogic hallucinations, things you might see when trying to fall asleep or hypnopompic hallucinations, things you see when you’re trying to wake up.”

Yadav says these “waking dreams” can involve serpents, spiders, intruders, and yes, even ghosts and are often associated with feelings of dread.

“Some people have visions where they feel something is trying to strangle or choke them or they have a sense of impending doom,” she says. “They’ll often see someone coming into their room and they’re not able to move or talk or scream or do anything.”

Nickell says the phenomenon, which has been suffered by humans for centuries, also explains both the demonic visitations people reported during the Middle Ages as well as today’s reports of alien abductions.

“People [who report hauntings] will often tell you that they just went to bed or will say they woke up at 2 in the morning,” he says. “They’ll tell you they couldn’t move. That’s enough to diagnose it right there. It’s extremely common and very, very often the simplest and best explanation for a ghost.”

But it’s not the only explanation. Ghostly sightings can also be brought on as a result of a psychotic state, drug use, sleep deprivation or temporal lobe epilepsy. He says a “ghost” can also be an illusion produced by the brain, particularly when a person is tired.

“Someone will be doing some routine chore like polishing the furniture – they’ll be in a near-reverie or daydream state – and they’ll see something out of the corner of their eye,” he says. “They’ll turn and their mind will fill in the blank – they’ll see a Civil War soldier or a ‘gray lady’ -- and then it will promptly vanish.”

Nickell says studies have shown that people who are tired or are performing mindless tasks are more susceptible to these visions and, again, it’s a body thing, not a disembodied thing.

“It’s a trick of the eye,” he says. “Your eyelid will twitch or an insect will fly by and this will trigger a momentary welling up of a mental image. It’s like a camera’s double exposure for just a brief moment.”

Carbon monoxide poisoning – and the hallucinations that can occur with it – is another possible explanation, although Nickell says he’s never encountered this scenario.

Others have, however. In 1921, the American Journal of Ophthalmology published a case study involving a couple who moved into a house and promptly began to suffer headaches, listlessness and strange auditory and visual hallucinations (footsteps, mysterious figures, strange sensations, etc.). Their symptoms were finally traced to a faulty furnace.

A more recent case in 2005 involved a woman who was found delirious and hyperventilating after seeing a “ghost” while taking a shower; respondents discovered a new gas water heater had been improperly installed, flooding her house with carbon monoxide.

So, basically, when we see or experience something akin to a ghost, it can be explained as sleep paralysis or something like that? I just find that hard to believe.

Sometimes I believe in that, sometimes I don't. : /

But at least science TRIES to make sense of the illogical -spiritual stuff can be quite hard to explain and all- though it still isn't enough.

I've been trying to be inactive in the spiritual whatevers since I managed to fix my mess with some. And for once my Hallow's eve was very peaceful. @[email protected]

This brings tears to my eyes! I have sooo many stories and I don't know where to begin!
hmmm... My favorite one is from when I was in Thailand a few years ago.

Everytime we go to Thailand, we travel to historical sites and this time we went to the Bang Pa In Palace, which would be the very palace depicted in the King and I. My cousin and I were sitting on the back of the golf cart, where the seats face the opposite direction as the ones in front, and we were passing the building where the king and queen occasionally stay when they come to visit and I saw a figure in the window and he was dressed in strange clothes, like formal sort of top with old fashioned thai pants. Only certain people were allowed in that specific building, which was closed off since the royal family had been there a week prior to my visit, and currently it was completely closed off. I nudged my cousin and when we both looked, there was no one in the window and the curtains which were drawn over the windows weren't even moving in the slightest. Later, I told my mom and she had bought me a book about the palace and on the inside cover was the exact figure of the man I had seen, dressed in the same exact uniform I had seen and I was like "MOM MOM! THAT'S HIM! THAT'S THE MAN I SAW IN THE WINDOW" And she laughed and said that it meant I would have good luck since I saw King Rama V.

And I did have good luck for the rest of the year. I got into all the high schools I applied to and passed all of my classes with Straight A's.
