In the queendom of Wonderland, Queen Genevieve Heart and her daughter, Princess Alyss Heart, rule the whole Wondertropolis, a place where imagination becomes alive. Her scheming aunt, Redd, is planning to remove the Hearts from the throne and take her rightful place as Queen. How would the queendom survive the wars up ahead?

Main Characters:

Alyss Heart- The heir to the throne of Wonderland. Later forced to flee to the real world when her Aunt Redd takes over. She is bubbly, kind-hearted and the best friend of Dodge Anders.

Dodge Anders- The son of Sir Justice Anders, captain of the palace guard and a soldier in training. He is three years Alyss' senior and both her best friend and someone who cares about her much more than he should. Like most citizens of Wonderland, Dodge believes Alyss dead and plots revenge against both Redd and The Cat, Redd's foremost assassin, for the death of his father as well as Alyss.

Hatter Madigan- He is the Queen's bodyguard, and is forced to flee to the real world along with Alyss. Unfortunately, their escape goes awry and Hatter ends up in Paris with no clue as to the fate of the young girl he has been charged to protect. He is an expert bladesman, and his hat can flatten and split into S-shaped blades.

Aunt Redd- She is the main villain and Alyss' aunt. As Genevieve's sister, she was raised and educated within Heart Palace. Being her tutor, Bibwit Harte has always viewed her fall into the diabolical as a failure in her education. The civil war fought within Wonderland was fought with Genevieve and Redd on opposing sides of the battle and ended with Redd's exile to the Chessboard Desert. She is a user of Black Imagination, a negative form of magic, and responsible for the murder of Alyss' parents.

Bibwit Harte- The royal tutor to the Heart family, teaching them everything they have to know to be a good monarch. After Alyss and Hatter disappear, he seems to work for Redd, but he secretly helps the Alyssians in their battle against Redd.

The Cat- He kills Sir Justice Anders and attempts to pursue Alyss and Hatter when they escape from Wonderland. He ordinarily resembles a muscular, bipedal feline equipped with melée weapons, but can take the form of a kitten as a sort of Trojan horse, and possesses nine lives.

General Doppelganger- The commander of the Royal Army, made up of equal parts General Doppel and General Gänger. When split he is referred to as 'they', rather than 'he', and each is able to act independently of the other.

Homburg Molly- She is a "halfer" (Half civilian and half Millinery) who helps Alyss and the rest of Alyssians to find The Looking-Glass Maze, and eventually fights along their side in the battle of Mount Isolation.

Jack of Diamonds- A pompous, cowardly, self-serving figure, the Jack of Diamonds is intended to become Alyss's fiancé when they are both still children.

Supporting Characters:

Queen Genevieve Heart- Queen of Wonderland, mother of Alyss, and wife of King Nolan Heart. She is the ruler of Wonderland prior to Redd's coup. Killed by Redd on Alyss's seventh birthday.

King Nolan Heart- King of Wonderland, father of Alyss, and husband of Queen Genevieve Heart. Killed by Redd on Alyss's seventh birthday.

King Arch- Ruler of Boarderland. Boarderland is a kingdom (a country ruled by a man) to which King Nolan is sent to attempt to gain as an ally against Redd. A deeply sexist and misogynistic individual, King Arch's views on women and Wonderland's status as a queendom (a nation ruled by a woman) makes him reluctant to ally with Wonderland for fear it would have a negative influence on the female population of Boarderland.

Blue Caterpillar- Blue Caterpillar is the head of six oracle-like caterpillars (of which the remaining five are colored red, yellow, orange, green, and purple) who live in the Mushroom Valley and act as guardians to the sacred Heart Crystal. Never seen without his hookah pipe, Blue gives Queen Genevieve a warning of Redd's coup, and later tells Alyss how to find the Looking Glass Maze.

Sir Justice Anders- Captain of the Palace Guard and father of Dodge Anders. Killed by the Cat on Alyss's seventh birthday.

The Liddels- Alyss's adopted family. Reverend (Dean of Christ Church) and Mrs. Liddell of Oxford and their three daughters: Edith, Lorina, and Rhoda. Also, notable in the household is the children's governess, Miss Prickett. None of the Liddels believe that Alyss tells truth when referring to Wonderland.

Reverend Liddel- The mathematics lecturer of Christ Church and author of Alice's Adventures Underground under the name Lewis Carroll which, in The Looking Glass Wars, he wrote based upon Alyss's recounting of her life in Wonderland.

It has been 12 years since the Wonderland Civil War ended. Princess Alyss Heart stood on the balcony of the Heart Palace with her mother, Queen Genevieve. Wonderlanders came to celebrate the 7th birthday of the future queen, who, as it happened, was bored out of her wits.

Where was Dodge anyway? Princess Alyss thought as she looked at the boring inventions examined by the Queen down below. He is probably doing something fun without me. The nerve!

Hatter entired hurrying into the room where Alyss and Queen Genevieve were. "I apologize for being late my queen. I had to take care of a few party crashers." He said tipping his hat and bowing to the queen to show his sincere respect. "And a happy birthday to you miss Alyss. I can see it now....You.....will be Queen Alyss along with your husband" He said changing his voice from serious to the queen and happy to the young princess. Hatter Madigan always looked forward to a bright future for Alyss.

"Thank you, Hatter."Alyss replied regally. She thought about the Jack of Diamonds, his future husband and his-well, his bottom. He has the biggest bottom in all of Wonderland. No one even noticed it, except Alyss, Dodge, and a couple of guards in Heart Palace. Alyss turned to her mother, seeing that she is interested in one invention.

"Alyss, look at that. A hoop spinning around her." Queen Genevieve said in delight.

Alyss followed her mother's gaze and said, "Well, it will be better when there were water spouting out of it."

Just then, the hoop began spouting water. Genevieve turned to her daughter, "Alyss."

Then, the water stopped. Alyss has the most powerful imagination in all of Wonderland, like her mother of course.

"Would you look at that. I've never seen anything like it," Hatter said following along with the queen. Just then Hatter's watch started ringing. "Well princess Alyss it seems your 10 foot tall cake is ready for your birthday," Hatter said delightfully. He loved cake almost as much as Alyss did and the queen always ordered Hatter to taste it before anyone else did. "Well it seems I have some royal taste testing to do," He said winking at Alyss. Alyss also knew that Hatter LOVED cake.

Alyss giggled. She knew that Hatter loved cake. She slipped away from her mother's gaze and went to Hatter. She gave him a small piece of cake. "Here you go, Hatter." She stifled a laugh as she gave it to him. He doesn't know whats in it! She imagined gwormmies inside the cake when he will eat them.

Hatter smiled thankfully. He took a huge bite and swallowed it whole. "Oh my what is in this cake," He said with a surprised look on his face. "This is the weirdest thing I've ever tasted"

Alyss giggled to herself and finally said, "Those are gwormmies!" She ran and laughed, thinking, He fell for it! He fell for it!

"Alyss get back here missy" Hatter said about to chase Alyss but his back was sore so he decided to sit down. "I wonder what the big surprise for Alyss's party will be this year" Hatter said to himself. There was always a big surprise at Alyss's party.

7-year old Alyss ran to the Issa room and (finally!) found Dodge standing there with a gift in his hand. "Hi Dodge! Where have you been all day?"

"Hey Alyss!" Dodge said with a smile. "Oh happy birthday" He said handing Alyss the present. Dodge hoped he liked the silver charm bracelet
