Well, now tomorrow is Tuesday, and I don't want ti to come. I have to dress up like a pirate tomorrow, or else I lose points for the day.
And your welcome. I'm glad you like it. [PS, those books are set in my city.]
What's funny is that the city that I actually live in is not in any maps in like an almanac, but its on the map in that book.

That is funny! It's also kind of cool to have a book set in your city; does that impact how you visualize the book?
I've never heard of a book set in my area, but watching movies set in San Francisco (which is nearby) is rather strange. A car will drive down one street, and come out on a street at the complete wrong end of the city.
Why on earth would dressing up like a pirate be a mandatory assignment? That makes very little sense... especially since a pirate outfit could cost money, which oughn't be allowed. :?
I'm now somewhat miffed at your teacher.
Is it a group project or something?
This week is insane. And it's Monday. But it's already insane. I've been assigned two huge tests upcoming, after having taken one just today, and everyone is absolutely mad.
My head will bleed book at week's end, I'll avow it.

Aaaah, no! I'm sorry-- our timezones are all separated.
I shall be on late tonight, though! About midnight to two, my time. :)
I have an orthodontist's appointment today! I expect them to be somewhat angry with me. Aaaaah! Meanwhile: books, books, books. Government to start... *hides*

Hi. I would like to be called Euwie.
Um, I like sleeping and comfy beds.
The weirdest thing I heard today is that Blue Whales are sooo big that a small person can swim through their arteries. That's big!
This seems like a cool thread. I hope I can meet you all sometime soon!

Hey Euwie!
I, too, adore sleeping and comfy beds! I'm looking forward to seeing them this weekend... meanwhile, I'm conjugating an unholy amount of verbs for French class.
o-o And that is big! I'm not sure that I would consider artery swimming a pastime.
Did you hear that in a really non-sequitor biology class?
It's nice to meet you! :)
I'm Aislin; I am sleep-deprived, enjoy books, and get reeeeaaally punchy at around two-a.m. I also don't seem to be very talented at Menewsha trick-or-treating, but in real life I'm the trick or treating queen. :yumeh:

The only French I know is the "Je suis un Pizza song".
Je suis un pizza! (Je suis un pizza!)
Avec du fromage! (Avec du fromage!)
and the like...
Ever heard that? I learned it Elementary school.
As for the whale thing, I learned that because I go to medical school and am surrounded by a bunch of nerds who know random sciencey stuff. (Which I don't mind so much since I'm a big dork myself.)
Oh trick-or-treating queen, eh? What're you going as?

It makes me love the book even more. Though i don't understand the map.
It's because we have spirit week [A whole week of days to dress up to show our school pride] and I'm in leadership [a class devoted to putting on the assemblies and anythign school pride related.] and so we have to. tomorrow is Old SChool Superhero day. and I'm dressing up like Robin.

@ Summer: Ah! Well, then I'm sorry it's points-related, but I cannot quite pity you. Leadership class... costumes are pretty much prerequisite.
You should save people from really un-dangerous things all day, and proclaim your good deeds in a very proud voice:
"Jane, watch out for that candy bar! I'll save you!... Ah, no need to thank me, little lady. I have gladly sacrificed my health for your benefit!"
Or, when someone is walking 5 feet away from an object, shout out warnings of, "Watch out for that pole! Make sure you don't trip over the garbage can!"
Or you could pretend that random people are Batman, run up to them and insist that you both rush off immediately to the Batmobile to "Save little Suzie!"
@Euwie: Definitely, I've heard it! And had to recite it in front of multiple non-French classes as part of a mandatory "caroling" session for Christmas in my sophomore year. My French teacher doesn't believe in dignity. :P
Nevertheless, I still really enjoy the song. Mostly because of this-- you can skip to 2:18 to see what I mean. ^.^
Wonderful! Medical School! You're now officially one of my heroes. Medicine is one of those careers that I've always wanted to go into, but would never have the brains or scientific ability to manage. So no Doctors Without Borders for me-- I'll have to stick with the Peace Core.
Do you want to be a general practitioner, or are you going into a specific field of medicine?
My friends and I are going as murderous versions of Snap, Crackle and Pop: "Cereal Killers." We're going to carry around giant home-made spoons with "blood" (red paint) on them. It's very exciting. :)

Eh, Im fine with it. It give me an excuse to dress up and not feel weird about it, because I can say I have to.
I think I will do that. Especially the one about the pole. I cracked up laughing at that one. Mainly because I have a friend who ran into a pole and [ok, i know lauighing is insesitive,] she broke off a few teeth. They got fixed though. Now, please remember I was laughing at how dead on you were with your "Ill save you thing" and not laughing at her. I would never laugh at a friend who lost their teeth. [because my brother did the same thing and never got his teeth fixed. er, not the same thign, but his teeth were knocked out.]

I completely get what you're saying; I always love an excuse to dress up. It's better when other people do it with you. I'm so glad that you're going to "rescue" people!
:P Running in to poles in general is funny. You can't be blamed at the teeth thing. Laughing at the pole-incident itself, though, must not be considered insensitive. Because then I'm insensitive too... I always laugh at people when they run into poles. Schadenfreude is taught by Looney Toons, I swear!
I myself run into poles frequently, though, so I've earned the right to laugh a little.
Have you got costumes picked out for the entire week?

I saved my friend from a Sobe.
I run into trees.
Nah, Monday was Pride Day, just have ot wear a lot of blue, black, and white.
Tuesday was Pirate versus Ninja day, dressed like a pirate. Today was Old School Superhero day [no one dressed up except like 10 people] I was Robin [batman and robin]. Tomorrow is crazy color day, and then friday is costume day. So, I only have three days worth of costumes.

Lol.
My news is we are almost certain to move now. And I have to figure out stupid questions for a Lord of the Flies worksheet. I read chapter one, hated it, and stopped reading. Now we're on like chapter 9 and I still havent read any of it, but I still got 100% on the tests. This book is gay. It, along with Farenheit 451, should be burned. Oh, and I need a date by December 15. [DEc 15 is my b-day, and Dec 10 is my friend's b-day, and we are planning on going on a double date for our sweet 16s. It's going to be awesome.]
Good luck with your homework.

I actually enjoyed both of the books that you're speaking of; if you need help, feel free to PM me with questions that you have from the worksheet and such. I know you're stressed right now, and I'd like to help if I can!
Heee-- and that comment about Fahrenheit 451 was really very ironic.
How did Halloween turn out for you?
My best friend and I went to a haunted house while dressed up, and then came back to hers and played Guitar Hero while still covered in makeup and fake blood. It was great fun. :)

In a couple months. We still have to find a house. In fact, my parents just left to look at houses.
Thank you for offering your help. If I need it, I will ask.
And yes, I planned for it to be ironic. That's what I say whenever I hate a book. "Hey everyone, let's have a Farenheit 451 party!" "My house, bonfire after finish this book!"
That sounds like fun. I wore my costume to school, won the best dressed prize, helped set up for the dance, which bombed. While setting up, I met my friend's boyfriend. [My friend happens to be gay.] Then I had to walk about a half a mile in heels. I handed out candy to little kids, and sang Due Pupille Amabili and Think of Me with my Alto friends [I'm a Soprano.] in front of all the trick or treaters. Then we went to a party, played DDR, Guitar Hero, and Karaoke Revolution. Then we went to the dance. It sucked because it was supposed to satrt at like 10 [whenever the football game gets over] and we couldn't find the cords for the sound system. And then we werent' allowed to turn off the lights, and those 3 hours of setting up were wasted on a 30 minute dance. But I guess it was okay because Hanson [choir teacher] was getting us all dancing. He's only 23. Oh, and I always had a sucker in my mouth. That was my goal for the night.
So, yup, there's my Halloween. I'm never wearing heels to school again.

Congratulations on winning the prize!
It sounds like you spend a lot of time hanging out with friends from choir-- which is fantastic. Music/arts classes are the perfect place to find people to spend time with, since the people populating those classes are most always playful and fun. :)
Were you in heels the whole day? Even during the dance set up?
That's rough. I've had to do that for tournaments in speech before, and after awhile it starts to wear. In general, though, I love heels. They're fun to dance in. I always feel awkward dancing in flats.

Thanks.
Actually, I don't really hang out with anyone that much. My best friend isn't in choir, and we only have one class together. And then there are only a few people that I like hanging out with in choir. I hung out with those other girls because they came to trunk or treating and we were the only ones our age. Er, and I guess they're my friends, but I'd rather not hang out with them. But choir is my favortie class. It's the only reason I even come to school.
Yeah, the whole day. Except I took them off every now and then. I just didn't wear any other shoes all day.
I always feel awkward dancing in a skirt and heels. Except the fact that I've only been to like 3 school dances and a billion church dances and I have to wear a skirt to church dances. I guess I'm fine when everyone else is in skirt and heels. One of the guys that always dances with me is shorter than me, so I have to take off my heels.
So what new with you?

*Stumbles in*
Hello! I'm ljos, or Pat (short for ljosberinn and Patrekur, respectively) and I like all sorts of stuff. In fact, with the right approach, I can be interested in pretty much anything. I'm a lazy bum studying photography in the UK, originally from Iceland and can speak a couple of languages other than English and Icelandic well enough to hold up a conversation. Yesterday I got a renewed spark of interest in French and I'm going to try better to keep up with the languages I know.
I like adventures and impulsive people!
I haven't heard much today seeing how I woke up quite late and I've just been staying in my room since. Am just off to make myself some egg and bacon and bread for breakfast (at four in the afternoon..) but I wanted to leave a message here first so that I could find this place again. Because I think I like it.

Hello Pat. Welcome to Aislin's thread. I hope you have a good time here.
Photography and French, huh? I have tried to teach myself French, because my school doesn't offer it, and so I know a little bit [definately not enough to get by.] And I have wanted to take up photography. But I've kinda fallen away from that passion.

Yes, or Italian, or German, or any of the Scandinavian languages apart from Finnish. Your school doesn't offer French? What languages do they offer then? I thought French was one of those basic third-language-options..
And there is a link to my photos in my signature. I practice shameless self-promotion.

They offer Spanish. My city is a little nothing in the middle of nowhere. And half the people are of Spanish decent, so that's the only one they offer.
Oooh, so you know Norwegian? I can only say "Happy birthday to you" in Norwegian. And I'm sure I'm not pronouncing it right. [Sorry, I myself am Norwegian, and so it--I kinda--grr. It makes me happy when people know about Norway because I'm proud of my heritage and all that.]
EDIT: Oh my gosh. Your pictures are amazing.

Ahh, I see. That's too bad, languages are so much fun to learn. So have you learnt Spanish?
I know better Swedish than Norwegian - we learn Danish in school here but after finishing all the Danish I needed to take I started turning it into Swedish by chatting with Swedish people online. I like Swedish best, to be honest. Norwegian is sort of midway between Swedish and Icelandic though, so I can understand Norwegian and probably make myself understood well enough.
Norway is pretty swell though.
Hehe, thank you! And yes, I'm Icelandic. : ) You're from the States, right?
