I am weird like that and in many other ways. I'll never forget the noise my friend made when she first heard of a 'fanny pack' (even if I think bum bag is a pretty funny name too).

I saw this story today as well: BBC confirms 'Doctor Who' movie plans.
All that story has made me think is 'I've never seen the Eighth Doctor in action'. I always thought his only adventure was a film but after looking it up I am wrong as usual. Hopefully this new film is better than those hilarious 60's Dalek ones.

I saw this too and couldn't resist sharing Neil Gaiman on 'Doctor Who', 'Sandman'. Neil to write for Doctor Who yes please. He should write the script anyway and if it doesn't work out he can turn it into a book like Douglas Adams did. XD

I agree Connie, and from interviews with Matt Smith I don't really think too much of his attitude. I just hope he's a good actor.

His assistant has been announced in any case. She's a relative unknown but I won't say her name here in case anyone wants it to be a surprise. I'm just happy it's not Lily Allen! There's a lot of Doctor Who news about. I was flicking through the entertainment section in a newspaper and apparently 'insiders' are suggesting it will be David Tennant in the Doctor Who film they're writing a script for.

*gives Connie a badge in the shade of the Tardis*

I checked out that link for the new assistant - she's hot! I'm excited to see her in action. I'm still not too sure of the new guy...something about him bugs me. However, that could just be because I'm such a Tennant fan.

I mostly read things on BBC Interactive or in the newspapers but my interwebs source of gossip is usually Digital Spy. The news is under the episode previews/reviews. ^^

In the latest news story it says Torchwood will be on next month. Yay!

I'm glad the new assistant is so pretty, at least we'll have something to look at to make up for Tennant - Smith certainly isn't doing anything for me. :Ž I'm much more excited to see her on the screen than him, which is a bit sad.

Hey Gemini. : )

Eee, I'm so excited for Torchwood. This from the comments: "BBC America has supposedly lined it up for w/c 20 July followed by DVD on 28 July. Perhaps we're going simultaneous with the States?"
I'm so bad at following news like that, I always forget so I miss out on things. I probably won't be able to see Torchwood at the time of its showing though because I'm not in the UK anymore.. my friend or I will probably download it as soon as its torrent is up and then watch it together the day after or something.

I first heard they were being broadcast simultaneously on AfterElton months ago (their Torchwood spoilers are excellent, I have no idea about the many US daytime soaps they cover). I think tirethminet has mentioned it too. ^^

My opinion on Torchwood will probably appear (between spoiler tags of course) as soon as it finishes since I don't see my sixth form Torchwood-buddy anymore. Whether you'll be able to extract my opinion between OMG! and WTF? is another matter entirely.

Ahaha, we'll see. I'll probably come straight here as soon as I've seen them. Spoiler tags will be my friends. :Ž

I really dig your avatar, by the way. Especially the way the hair fits, somehow. I can't really explain it.

I love spoilers. They just give me something to look forward to. I'm glad they are bringing Torchwood back - I had a bad feeling they were doing away with it.

There have been a lot of shows that I've loved and were done away with so I wouldn't have been surprised. Angry, yes, but not surprised.

I liked the way Digital Spy did their Torchwood spoilers, they were more like hints. They posted about four or five things they said would happen but one of them would always be untrue. Sometimes the one you'd think was definitely a lie would turn out to really happen. I think the one that caught me out was "Owen makes Tosh a sandwich". XD

There's a chance that they might not make another full series of Torchwood after the Children of the Earth mini-series; I haven't seen any news saying there definitely will or won't be one. Torchwood is probably fairly expensive to make so they could wait for a while until money isn't so much of an issue, but that's just me speculating.

HRK!!!

Quote:
The 2005 series reveals that the Ninth Doctor thought he had become the last surviving Time Lord, and that his home planet had been destroyed. The very first episode, An Unearthly Child, shows that the Doctor has a granddaughter, Susan Foreman; in "The Empty Child" (2005), in response to Constantine's statement that "before this war began, I was a father and a grandfather. Now I am neither", the Doctor remarks, "Yeah, I know the feeling"; and in both "Fear Her" (2006) and "The Doctor's Daughter" (2008), he states that he had, in the past, been a father. Also in the latter, his cells are used to produce a daughter (played by Georgia Moffett, the real-life daughter of Fifth Doctor actor Peter Davison) who is subsequently named Jenny by Donna as a result of his describing her as "a generated anomaly".
the Doctor has a granddaughter, Susan Foreman;
"Fear Her" (2006) and "The Doctor's Daughter" (2008), he states that he had, in the past, been a father.

So..... Besides the Doctor and Jenny . . . There are other Timelords wandering about?
(forgive me for the newbie-ness, but I only started watching with Tennant)

From the TARDIS wikia site: List of Individual Time Lords. The idea of the Doctor being the last Time Lord and being alone in the universe after the Time War as a central theme to the series was mostly an invention of the 'new' Doctor Who.

Susan was the first Doctor (William Hartnell)'s companion and his granddaughter. 'Susan Foreman' was just an assumed name. He left her behind when she fell in love with a man on Earth because he knew she would never leave him herself and he didn't want her to make her choose. I've read that originally there wasn't a family link but the BBC were worried people might get ideas about a 15 year old girl travelling with an old man... but I don't know if there's any truth in that. ^^;

Well, he does indeed say he's been a father and a grandfather but I don't see how that should imply there are other Timelords around. He's said before he would "know" if there were any (S04 spoiler)
- obviously he didn't know about the Master because he was locked in a human's body - and so I don't think there are any more around. Unless they've somehow managed to hide themselves from his Time Lord Radar Time Lord Senses, or whatever he uses.

Kat, haha those spoilers sound like fun. And ohnoes for possibly not more Torchwood! I can imagine them being sort of expensive, but I thought they were really popular though? Not that TV stations cutting off popular series is unheard of..

So I wonder if he would sense a time lord hybrid. I mean if he has been a father then his decendants would have to mate with human or some other humanoid since timelords are no more.

Yeah, that raises the question: If he can sense other Timelords, then why didn't he sense Jenny when she regenerated? Unless he's not able to sense hybrids, which would prove that Jenny's not 100%.

Gemini; No, because he was a father long, long before the Time War and before the (near) extinction of the Time Lords. So his descendants are dead, along with all the other Time Lords.

He might not be able to sense hybrids though. Unless the sensing of other Time Lords is not something innate, but something he has to perform for? Which would explain why he could not sense Jenny right away, and he might not have felt the need to search for them again, which explains why he hasn't brought up her existence again.
