People were for it or against it?

Okay, I'm finding it hard to understand how LotR fits in with DW and BsG. Both of the latter are at least classified as sci-fi, whereas LotR is purely fantasy . . . .
If anything, it should have caused more of a row that LotR is the odd man out, rather than DW.

What they all have in common is that they all have the undying love and loyalty of zillions of nerds worldwide. :)

This is very true, and when those wars erupted between HP and LotR fans, I (quietly) sat myself squarely within the LotR camp. Although, if someone asked which I preferred, I instead said Narnia. :XD

More often than not, that response would earn me either a blank stare or a rant about C. S. Lewis.
You know, Lewis and Tolkien were in a literary group at Oxford, the Inklings. When they met, they'd often share their latest literary workings, and when Tolkien started writing LotR, one of the other men present that day said, "Not more fucking elves!"

Heh, well I really can't say anything, cuz I started teaching myself Sindarin Elvish when I was 12 years old. ^_^
So while we're on this nerdy conversation... Star Wars or Star Trek?

Star Trek for me personally although the first Star Wars films (as in episodes 4-6) are brilliant.
+ Someone used the DFTBA acronym initialism on the Mycroft Holmes Tumblr RP but he didn't know what it meant. ^^;

I agree. The original Star Wars trilogy is great, but the new ones are lame, lame, lame. :talk2hand:
Why would someone use DFTBA if they didn't know what it meant? *confused*

Someone (an anon) just put "DFTBA, Mr. Holmes." in his ask box and 'Mycroft' answered it.
This is the follow-up post. It made a change from people asking about the umbrella anyway. XD
I may have asked 'Jim' if he could fix my laptop.

hehehe, that's awesome. I've read the blogs of Sherlock and Watson, but didn't know Mycroft had one.
So, um, was that an actual fan who wrote that comment? I had just assumed that the entire site was run by the show's creators, really.

The ones on Tumblr are fan made by people roleplaying as the various characters. Although it would be nice if things like Moriarty being a Lady Gaga fan and John drunkenly drawing ducks on Sherlock's underwear were canon.
The official Sherlock sites are ran by Joseph Lidster, also behind some of the Doctor Who tie-in sites.
Edit: The full list is with the disclaimer.

Completely off-topic: Kat, could you please link me to that Neil Gaiman with Cthulhu on his head icon? I've just spent way too much time trying to find it by going through your random signature and it refuses to show up. x____x

Ta-da!

+ link to a bigger version of the picture.
The twitter conversation between Neil Gaiman and Richard Clark is very informative. His Doctor Who episode will feature a water ballet and giant saber-toothed cockroaches! (I know they're joking... or are they?)

Episode 4 is Mark Gatiss' episode too. I will probably just spend the week between them rolling on the floor going "Squeeeee!".

I was writing an "art analysis" essay for my Advanced Composition course the other day, and found a the perfect opportunity to employ the phrase "the oncoming storm". Needless to say, I had a little "squee moment" myself there. hehe.

There was a guy in my Chemistry lecturer this morning wearing a bow tie. Bow ties are cool.

On the right person, yes they are. If not, then....it just looks bad.
Oi! I had the same strange dream two nights in a row!
