Being all sassy and treating people the way she does is a fairly typical way of making up for insecurities.. (sort of like what bullies do >.> )

I didn't think Marilyn Monroe seemed like a good match for him, yet they got married. But I know what you mean, though I kind of think that she and 11 are a slightly better match than her and 10, personality wise.

River being the anthropomorphized TARDIS does sound like a pretty clever idea, and at least I hope it is something like that instead of them "just" being married.

The thing with family and relationships like that as well.. I don't know the classic Doctors very well, but the new Doctors did have that massive trauma of knowing that all his relations were lost in the Time War and I think he has been building up to being able to relate to others more intimately. Yes, he had Rose, but his feelings as 9 were a mess and I think he was more susceptible. After he lost her, he hardened so much and it seems he's been trying to convince himself ever since that he can't get close to anyone because, as Cherry pointed out, he will always end up outliving and losing them.

Spoilers..X

I was going to say that River Song is possibly not even human so who knows how long her species life span is, and then I remembered that the Doctor knows from the beginning that she will die.. though again, he doesn't actually know for how long she's known him, so it might have been a long time. Plus, it's implied that she's the one who kills him at some point in the future..

RANDOM FACT: Did you know that Susan's (the Doctor's granddaughter and first companion) real name, Arkytior, means "rose" in High Gallifreyan? The things you find out while getting lost on the TARDIS wiki...

Heh, that is an interesting fact. TARDIS wiki is addictive. It's like TV Tropes, you just can't stop clicking a new link on every page.

I'm not good with thinking of theories- although the ones here are brilliant. I'm just hoping the cliffhanger between the two halves of the series doesn't drive me crazy after waiting so long. XD

Whoa, Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane) just died of cancer... I had no idea she was sick.

There were rumours online before it was confirmed and I really wanted to believe it was just a hoax.

There's a tribute on the Doctor Who website. Lis seemed like such a lovely woman as well as an amazing actress.

I just saw it as well, that is very sad. I only really saw her in her short roles in the new series, but even just from that I really liked her character. From the tribute on the Doctor Who website it sounds like she was just as lovable outside her role.

Here's the coilhouse article on her passing. Probably nothing that hasn't been covered, but I always like the way they put things together: Coilhouse » Blog Archive » Farewell, Elisabeth Sladen

Apparently nobody but her close friends and family knew.. :(

Well, at least she was happy. I mean, we don't know much about her personal life, but it seems she lived a very full life.

Also, according to Wikipedia..

Quote:
A new series of Doctor Who starts on the Saturday following Sladen's death. A spokeswoman for the show said that "something suitable is being planned" as a tribute to the actress.[18]
I wonder what that'll be? I mean, it's far too late to put anything into the actual episode, but maybe there'll be something before the show...? Like a little tribute thing, that would be really nice. I hope I'm able to watch it somehow, though.

Same here. I haven't gotten to where Sarah Jane shows up in the original Doctor Who yet...I haven't even gotten farther than the First Doctor! I'm for the most part up-to-date on the new Who though. About halfway through Series 5....

There's a 15 minute tribute show My Sarah Jane: A Tribute to Elisabeth Sladen that's going to be shown straight after the first episode of the new series (on CBBC in the UK, not sure about anywhere else) and the first episode itself will be dedicated to Elisabeth.

ASDLJKFELKRGNLKSXJCVCVIERLJAFD.

I hate BBC for making the first episode of the season such an epic cliffhanger. :gonk:

Spoilers!X

Right from the start, I wasn't too impressed. It was a bit confusing, I didn't quite get what was going on.. and then all of a sudden the Doctor is dead!? I just sat there stunned, going 'let this be some fucked up dream, or something.. please?'
I figured he would be part of the show though, as a younger self, and I thought the invitations were pretty clever. It's so frustrating not to know what's going on though! The fact that the Doctor is going to die just distracted me from really paying attention to anything else in the storyline (the girl, the super fucking creepy alien memory erasers..). They must be able to change it though.. right?? I mean.. quite apart from refusing to believe the Doctor is ever going to die, I definitely won't believe it will be as 11. Since the classic season we've learned that he has 13 incarnations, and I don't believe they would make it any fewer than that, especially as they've been building it up so much to reach American audiences..

Actually, speaking of, I think this episode would be a terrible way to start watching Doctor Who. You would have to know the relationship between the Doctor and River Song, and him and Amy, and Amy and Rory in order not to get completely lost.

Apparently Hulu doesn't carry the series. It does however carry Xena: Warrior Princess and Doc Martin. My dad will be thrilled. About the latter, that is.

One of my friends thought it started at 7 and missed it. Genius Katie did forget to watch the 'next time' by changing the channel to CBBC for My Sarah Jane as soon as the credits started so I'm glad that was online.

I genuinely lost track of time and hadn't realised it had been 45 minutes when it ended which is high praise coming from someone with the attention span of a gnat.

It was good, it was interesting to hear RTD and David Tennant talking about watching Sarah Jane and the Doctor as children as well as from the cast of The Sarah Jane Adventures which is being watched by children now.
