Tony Hancock always claimed he came up with the idea of the Daleks in a late-night drinking session. The man usually credited with creating Doctor Who’ arch-enemies, Terry Nation, used to write for Hancock, who claimed that their distinctive form came about after a boozy night surrounded by salt and pepper pots. When Hancock left the BBC, he worked on several ideas for series, including called From Plip To Plop, a comedic history of the world which would have ended with a nuclear apocalypse, after which the survivors would be reduced to living in dustbin-like robot casings. According to biographer Cliff Goodwin, when Hancock saw the Daleks, he allegedly shouted at the screen: ‘That bloody Nation – he's stolen my robots!’
I just watched Confidential yesterday, and it really helped me to not be so freaked out by the Silence, as you see one of them do a very silly dance routine backstage. I still think the Weeping Angels are more scary, though it's a tough contest.. seems to be the main question going on these days, who's more scary.
And that story about the Daleks' creation is very amusing, I agree with Kat that is a brilliant exclamation!
That bloody Nation! My mum phoned me about 30 seconds before the end of the episode and in the time it took me to pause the TV (hurrah for Freeview+) I missed a couple of lines. Hurrah for iPlayer as well. Will hold off on the tempting spoiler boxes until other people have seen it and to reduce your disappointment when you realise all I do is write nonsense in them.
I love that Bring Me Sunshine trailer they showed beforehand. Shame the Who clips in it are spoilery.
There's been no official explanation, has there? It appears to be something that you are bequeathed with if you have donated to the site at some point.

Reason: Oh my goooood.
I'm halfway through "The Curse of the Black Spot" right now. I'm really loving Rory in this episode! And Hugh Bonneville is fantastic, as he always is in everything he's ever acted in. lol.
also....X
Didn't the hospital creature remind you of the nanogenes (sp?) in The Empty Child?

I had a dream influenced by the Silence last night. :gonk: They looked like them and had taken over the world, there just wasn't the whole forgetting thing. I accidentally walked into a basement chock full of them and they were going to kill me, but after I did much begging for my life, they decided to let me go on the condition that I deliver a very dire message to humanity. I don't remember what that message was... I may be killed in my sleep for failing my task.
Regarding tonight's episodeX
I liked tonight's episode! Rory is, I think, being treated less like Mickey and more like a legitimate second companion. The "siren" wasn't ridiculous, which was quite nice. When I saw her, I was afraid it was going to be... well... I'm just terrified of some of the super-cheesy Davies era aliens. :gonk: I'm not sure what Moffat is going to have to do to finally earn my trust.
Amy continued her streak of being nice to Rory, so, yay. Although she gave up on CPR ridiculously early. Come on, Pond, it's your husband, I think he deserves more than four attempts?!
Did any of you guys see Graham Norton on after Doctor Who? David Tennant and Catherine Tate were on. I didn't catch the whole thing, but I caught some of it. David Tennant wears pink socks. I'll see if I can find a clip when I get home tomorrow.
Tennant wears pink socks? That's something I gotta see!
On the other hand, I'm FINALLY watching the first episode of Series 6! Am I correct in assuming that the Doctor, Amy, Rory, and River have teamed up with someone from MIB?

 Yesyesyes, this. Genius.
Meanwhile, I can't afford to spring for BBCA. So I'm watiting for the next episode to show up on OnDemand. :illgetu:
I watch them online as well, but over the summer I'll be stuck at my grandparents' house (CURSE THE SHIT ECONOMY!!!) with my mom, as she's got to live there and thus so do I, meaning PBS! And from past experience, PBS in my area has Doctor Who on the weekends! W00T!
RORY IS MADE OF PLASTIC! This pretty much cancels out half of this episode! I think the team has decided just to sweep that entire thing under the carpet, because it's kind of made a lot of things in the series invalid :gonk:
