Now I'm going to think of each of the new Daleks as the Sailor Scout corresponding to their colour. Doctor Who ruined forever!
(Just kidding of course, although I will do this.)
Neil Gaiman is posting pictures from his time in Cardiff to count down to his episode here. No spoilers there as of yet, Neil was even trying not to use the name of his episode online until he accidentally did recently. I am excite.
People are too noisy at screenings. They don't gasp and scream when watching at home, but get them all in a room and they will. Completely defeats the purpose if you can't even hear it!
This night's episode was so good! A stand alone, but very entertaining one, it didn't feel fillery or anything. Gaiman wrote it well. I'm sooo happy with this season so far.
Have you all noticed that this season is very dark? I don't mean thematically, I mean literally. Hey! Who turned out the lights?
Just watched the Doctor's Wife; LOVED IT.
I'm completely with Cherry, Neil did an amazing job.
I guess the show is going for more thought-out colour schemes, as opposed to just going-with-the-flow like they used to back in the day? I remember reading that Amy couldn't wear yellow in one episode because it would mess with the balance...
Add me to people who loved The Doctor's Wife. The mix of humour and emotion was spot on. It was a stand alone but at the same time it was relevant to Doctor Who as a whole.
Confidential just made me realise Matt and Suranne are another Smith and Jones. XD
The Doctor's Wife was just so beautiful! ;___; And I completely did not see the plot twists coming, so I really hope everyone else managed/manages to watch it without having things spoiled for them.
Doctor's Wife spoilers!X
It made me so, so happy to see the relationships between the Doctor, Amy and Rory. I love how Amy can read the Doctor so much better than a lot of other companions have, and the way she talks about him and to him has started looking so much more like one would do about a best friend, rather than a love interest, which I really like. Also, Amy and Rory were so good together, and Rory is definitely a companion, not just a "tin dog" anymore.
Seeing the Doctor talk to the TARDIS though, was just.. heartbreaking, mostly. Except.. I love that he calls her "sexy"!
You also got to see very well the difference between 11 and 10, or 9 in the way he talked about the possibility of other Time Lords.. something that would have terrified 9 and 10, but he was so eager to make amends. I feel like he's running away from that responsibility and guilt a lot of the time with his goofy antics, and I loved the bit where Amy realises he just wants to be forgiven, and the Doctor betrays his deep emotions about the whole thing.
I think I'm getting too excited about reading into character development here.. >.>
Also, looks like the next episode will be back to creepy! Which is good news for people who like creepy, I guess.. >.<
You're right, the difference between 10 and 11 was a big thing in this one. Much less sulking - not that 10 didn't have a completely valid reason for sulking, but still, there was a lot of sulking with him. Also, speaking of 10, I love that we got to see his TARDIS interior for a bit. I'd missed the big coraly things.
Agree also with the bit about Amy and Rory. Amy is seeming more and more like she's with Rory, not in love with the Doctor. Hopefully they'll eventually even seem married... only now do they finally seem like they're in a proper relationship. The bit with the House (it was house, right? Not host? I couldn't quite hear them) messing with their heads and making Amy see old and crazy Rory, then dead Rory, was also a good... reminder that they like each other? Good creepy drama. The episode never slowed down and I quite liked it all.
No such thing as paying too much attention to character development - it's one of my favorite parts of Doctor Who. However campy some seasons are, there's always character development. And at over 900 years old, that the Doctor is still evolving as a person and being affected by things is interesting to me. Probably a lot to do with each regeneration being a bit like being a different person. But anyway, character development is awesome.
The last episode was AMAZING!!!!! I just..... wow.
The only real problem I had with it was.....X
....the way we, as an audience, saw the TARDIS soul going into the human body. I think this ep would have been so much cooler if we'd been made to guess for a while, before the truth being revealed to us. You know? I mean, that's generally how Doctor Who episodes go: the most important element of the plot is usually a mystery for the first half of the episode, and then we start to figure things out later on. And the most important element of this episode was, of course, the TARDIS becoming a human being. I just personally think it woulda been cooler if we'd been puzzled for a while at first. Like the Doctor was!!
You make a good point, and I have to agree with you. The only mystery we got to experience was whether or not there were Timelords there... but I think we kind of knew there weren't, because... I mean, what, he suddenly finds ten Timelords? I just can't see that happening. The reboot is all about the Doctor's lonely teen girl angst, find more timelords would wreck that. Unless he killed them all again... again. (Time War, then the events of The End of Time)
Thank you! I just kind of threw it together looking for something to wear... Most of our items are fantasy-geared, but I've been feeling more realistic lately. I sort of feel like she's a modern little red riding hood... only red looked bad on her because of the red hair, and the basket looked awkward, and the heartface fox blended with her leggings... so she's just a girl taking a stroll through the woods, I guess. I love layering background items. I have so much fun with them.
I'm background-phobic and had to be persuaded to leave this one on. They're one of the things that I think look great on everyone else (like yourself Cherry) but I just can't seem to get right. >.<
Rerk. Spoilers.X
I was going to mention earlier- but took it out when I decided not to use a spoiler box thing- that I'm not adverse to the mystery of the episode turning out to be not what you think it is but it's happened a few times now so I'd prefer if it was mixed up a bit.
My only really petty complaint would be why hire Michael Sheen (House) and then distort his voice beyond recognition? Or not have him appear as some kind of avatar (they could rather than have Nephew? I didn't realise it was him until the end credits which is also partly due to my forgetfulness since I'd read he'd been cast to do a voice before.
While I'm in this box Eye Patch Lady was in the trailer so maybe she'll appear for more than just a second next time. Or maybe that was it.
The Confidential for for The Doctor's Wife (Bigger on the Inside) was great too. Lots of classic clips and Neil reading in the TARDIS.
If The Moff has taught me anything it's that the obvious option is probably the first one you can write off. Or it is the obvious option but more craziness will get thrown in on top.
