I'm not one of those who wants to break every kindle I see, but I do like owning physical copies of books. In the same way, I love my iPod but I've never bought a digital album. I always buy physical copies. I might be acting the Luddite, but I like actually having it. Not to mention that there's something to be said for listening to an album beginning to end. But that doesn't really translate to books. What am I talking about again?

Fully Digital vs. the physical. I'm not sure how we got on this topic, but I'm sure it traces back.

At any rate, I agree with you. I could go into a long diatribe, but I'll stick with the short hand version: It's easier to reinstall something if you have the physical copy right there. Also? CD players when you friends/family want to listen to music you don't like on long road-trips, or you are in a car that does -not- have an iPod/MP3 interface. And? I can let my friends borrow it, so they can see if they like it, and want to buy it for themselves.

Hello fellow Whovians. So I got to know, any of you Sherlockians as well? I know I am.

I enjoyed Sherlock, but I don't think I'd go as far to call myself a Sherlockian.

Lynn - Exactly! With digital, you're stuck with it on the one device. You can't take it over to someone else's house and be like "here, listen to this!" unless they have iPod speakers. Which, okay, that's probably getting more and more likely, but I like to share music with my grandparents and they don't have that. Movies, too.

I have always been a Sherlockian, even before the show.

My Tumblr URL is A Study in Emerald reference. XD

My book collection is somewhat split between my flat and my parents' house so my Kindle comes in handy rather than always having to transport books back and forth. There used to be some classic Who ebooks for download on the BBC website but they seem to have disappeared at some point.

I never feel like I've earned the right to call myself anything more than just a fan of something but I first got into Sherlock Holmes from watching the Granada show at my gran's house and I've been interested ever since.

It's hard to call yourself a Sherlockian nowadays, and not end up being firmly associated with the BBC show. It's easier to call yourself a Holmesian, even if Sherlockian is the older, more official term.

I'm not a scholar by any means, but I've paid close attention to what I've read, and dearly love the Granada series. And yes, The Great Mouse Detective was one of my favourite movies as a child, though I always considered somewhat separate from Sherlock Holmes at large.

Yeah I do too but it's still a great movie. I am also fond of Disney's Robin Hood. I will always consider myself a Sherlockian, as I do adore the BBC series. I am leery about the CBS version of Sherlock. They are making Watson a woman.

I have an appreciation for the books and Basil Rathbone films, but it's been so long since I've taken in either, I couldn't call myself a dedicated fan or anything. I like the BBC show, but the fans are pretty scary, so I try not to associate myself with it too much.

Same as Cherry above with the BBC show.
But as for the CBS one, why should we be scared? I mean, there have been so many iterations of Sherlock Holmes over the years, one more won't make much difference. And there actually has been a female Watson before, in They Might Be Giants. The only thing I can imagine being a bummer is if they really make Liu Watson a sort of female helpmate character, reinforcing old gender stereotypes. I'm sort of meh about whether CBS pairs them romantically. I'm tired of their having to be a a more than friends relationship between men and women characters. And I'm certainly tired of Watson/Holmes shipping, but like I said, so many iterations. The greatest hysterics I seem to see on it is are from fans of modern takes on it, be it "omg this is a totally rip off the BBC masterpiece, Holmes is wearing a scarf! Only benedict can wear a scarf!" or "Watson is a woman, there my be het stuff in this, I can't take het stuff, nonono". Like I said, unless we are seeing a reflection of societal issues, no need to get in a tizzy. I don't know much about Ms. Liu, but I kind of get the idea that she would chafe in a "little woman role" and it doesn't seem like the set up for a "sex bomb" role. So I'm hopeful to some extent, but more unfazed overall.

I have seen The Great Mouse Detective, it's good fun.

My issues with Elementary's characterisation of Watson isn't that she's a woman, but making her a disgraced surgeon rather than an invalided soldier seems to be starting off on the wrong foot. But that's me drawing conclusions from reading a description rather than seeing how it'll play out.

The BBC fandom is terrifying. The Sherlock/Irene shippers are just as likely to go for your throat now as the slash fans. How dare anyone just appreciate a show for what they make of it themselves.

I am going to give it a chance. And I am not one of those fans who think only Bennidict as Holmes can where a scarf, and I hadn't realized there had been another female Watson. It will be interesting to see.

Heh. That made me a bit tiddly that both Ljos and Lynn quoted (or wanted to quote) my post and said "basicially this".

I'm currently inducting a couple of New Whovians and we're currently with Nine in the Bad Wolf arc. RTD is so subtle that in The End of the World, the second episode, you can clearly overhear the aliens say "The Bad Wolf Scenario". Then it's a bit memorable when in the past Gwynnth(sp) talks to Rose and starts to freak out about the "Big Bad Wolf" in the darkness but you figure she's just being figurative. By the way, ironically enough, I just then noticed that she's Gwen from Torchwood. Then you finally get the kick in the pants with The Aliens of London/World War Three when some kid paints "Bad Wolf" on the TARDIS. By then you know it's not a coincidence, but what does it mean? Oh, and the doctor that is in charge of the 'extraterrestrial' dragged from the Thames? That's Toshiko from Torchwood!!

Anyways, it slowly crescendoes to the point where the characters themselves notice it and question it and then it unfolds... And then once you get the idea and you hear the words "Torchwood" and all the references to "Mister Saxon" popping up you're very, very, curious. With Donna's biological metacrisis he managed to do it for the most part without words even! "Turn Left!" "There's Something On Your Back!" "Who Are You?!" "This wasn't a coincidence." "<Insert Donna's self-depreciating statement about how she's nobody important here>"

I really miss those days. By the by, since he got that cannibalism bit under control, The Master has a new scheme, one that has worked for a few years now... willing minions. He recently put a want ad in the classifieds:

Yeah, I didn't notice that that was Gwen until it was pointed out to me. Later in Journey's End, I think, Rose and the Doctor actually meet Gwen and they ask her if she's from an old Welsh family. When she says yes they just sort of exchange a look. That went totally over my head the first time.

EDIT: You guys! TARDIS safe!

Hurrah! The poking will continue regardless.

Someone just uploaded some more pictures from a friend's wedding on Facebook and they had a TARDIS console cake. It looked too good to cut up.

I so hope to convert Boyfriend to Whovianism so we can have Dalek wedding toppers, should we ever marry.

But I'd settle for a zombie fighting wedding cake. We both already like zombies so I guess that's in the lead. :P

I miss Doctor Who. I don't want to wait until fall, that's so far away. Insert a very long and forlorn sigh as you read this.

The wedding wasn't Doctor Who themed, but it was quite quirky and non-traditional as the bride and groom are both comedians.

Zombie dalek cake!

In HMV they have some headphones attached to a little box with buttons where you can choose rock, urban, classical or to plug your own mp3 player in to listen to some music through them. Me and my friends were trying some out and on the pair I picked up the choice of 'classical' music was the Doctor Who theme. Woo-eee-ooh.
