I watched the Easter special and I loved it. Tennant is a bit shoutier then other Doctors and he doesn't seem as connected to me as the others. I felt a connection with the other Doctors. The newer ones don't seem to have that connection. I like the plots and stuff but Eccleston won't be favourably remembered for leaving after one series and Tennant seems way too "normal".
I saw the easter special today, I think they are becoming a little cheesey?
Though I loved it :) Bu I thought Michelle Ryan was a bit bad...and I HATEd her character!
The advert at the end for the next one looked SOOOOOO good! I can't wait! And I can't wait to see the next guy :)
Lanackse- I really like Tennant, I think he plays the part really well, he is casual about it, not trying to be weird like some of the others I think were. I'm gonna miss him :(
What a pleasant surprise! A Doctor Who themed thread. Though, I must ask this in reference to the TARDIS: Is it bigger on the inside? XD
Personally, I think the new Doctor looks a little too much like they were going for someone who looked like a vampire, really. I mean, he looks a bunch like that lead guy from the Twilight movie if you ask me. And yeah, he kind of does dress like the leader of an emo band. They should just keep Tennant or bring back Eccleston. Or the Doctor can get a sex change and Billie Piper can come back in the leading role! XD Sorry, just had to say it. So we go from big ears(#9) to big hair(#10) to a big chin(# fail). Nice.
In reference to Tate, I died laughing when I heard she'd be the new assistant. All I could think of was the Red Nose Day skit where Tennant was an English teacher and she was the obnoxious student who got turned into Billie Piper doll. Funny funny stuff. (Wonder who'll replace her?)

I like Tennant a lot, I think he brings a very unique sort of energy to the Doctor. Granted, I haven't seen much of the classic series - I've seen some of the first serials starring William Hartnell and then I've seen the '96 film starring Paul McGann. I'm not terribly optimistic about Matt Smith but I won't pass judgment until I've seen him act. I just hope they won't turn the show into some sort of teenage cheesefest just to make even more money than they must be making already.
Issi, welcome, and yes, I didn't like Ryan much. But I thought the episode was rocking, it had a sort of a similar setup to Midnight, no? And yes, the teaser looked fantastic, very shiny! I can't believe how long we have to wait for it though!
Does anyone know anything about the Torchwood 2009 miniseries? Wiki doesn't have any dates for it..
Also, everyone, I created an Easter event hangout so if you feel like chatting in the Easter event forum, here's the link. : )
This month Doctor Who Adventures magazine comes with an 'everything you need to be the Doctor' kit. So, everything you need to be the Doctor is apparently: glasses, a tie, a sonic screwdriver and a TARDIS key. I'd have bought it but it was £2.75. XD
All I know about the Torchwood mini series is that it's being shown more or less simultaneously in the UK and US (the time difference will make it a little later in the US). The BBC website just says BBC 1 at 9pm but I've heard Spring/Summer elsewhere.
(+ trailer, if it's geo-locked I guess it'll be on youtube)
Ah, I've caught Torchwood on the tele a couple of times, but I don't really like it too much. I mean, it's cool, but Jack's flamerness is a bit overdone. I don't think I'd really enjoy watching a mini series of it... but it is only a few episodes, right? (It is a mini series after all.)
If they'd released it in March, then Scifi could have included it in their miniseries month since they show the new episodes of Doctor Who any ways.
(Is it really bigger on the inside? -shifty eyes- Or is it just a government conspiracy?)
I really should post in this thread instead of stalking it so much ^^;
Heyo all ^__^ <3
I for one absolutely loved the Easter special
(technically i shouldn't have watched it, but i'm not prepared to wait several months for the ABC to get it's arse into gear and show it)
I think I may be one of the few who actually liked Ryan's character :D
She was a very good match for Ten, i loved the innocent innuendos to checking each other out and being impressed by one another.
I'm not saying that she's the best companion (i'm a very strong Donna, Rose, Martha companion shipper) but she would make a very good full time companion to Ten :D (i'm staying completely neutral about the whole companion thing)
As to the Torchwood Mini Series, i doubt i'll ever get to see it xD.
Knowing the ABC's timing and the fact that the BBC/UK tends to neglect Australia with it's distrubution of Doctor Who Episodes, we may not get it for quite a while XD.
I would like to see another male companion for the Doctor. In the old series the Doctor's companions were there to accompany him and help rather than be romantic interests. I think that's why I did like Martha and Donna so much after thinking I wouldn't because however much they loved the Doctor (you can't not) they made it clear they weren't in love with him.
I think I'm going hate every companion but then they prove me wrong, so what do I know. XD
Gwen and her massive eyes O_OX
Ah, Gwen gets on my nerves sometimes because I don't think the different writers have figured her out. I want to like her, but the fact she cheats on her boyfriend/fiancé/husand so easily makes her seem, ahem, a bit of a whore. Especially since she is the supposed 'heart' of the team. When she's being a slob with Rhys, shouting at Jack and purposefully annoying PC Andy though I love her.
Kat, what do you mean? Martha was all over the Doctor by the end.. I think she might have been in love with him from the beginning. But yeah, I would like some proper male companions. I mean, there's Micky but he only had a few episodes and Jack is.. well, he's a special case. And the main reason they were there was to compete with the main companion's affection.
With a male Doctor and a male companion though, the show might easily get too masculine, having a female companion does bring a nice sort of balance to the show. But still, I wish we could get another one like Donna, that isn't all slobbering over the Doctor all the time. Why not bring a lesbian on board? That should keep the balance of the sexes while excluding romance. Also, it would be interesting to see a lesbian deal with Jack.. or rather, Jack deal with a lesbian.
Hello Pounded! Gosh, I always feel so bad when everyone talks about watching everything legally. I usually download things as fast as I can, though to be fair, if I like what I see I do actually usually end up buying it. I just bought the DW 3rd series box set actually, it is very shiny. I don't think the 4th series is out yet on DVD? At least I couldn't find it at HMV.. It'll probably cost a fortune anyway, so I'll probably get it illegally for now and then buy it as soon as I can afford it.
I do think I might very well warm up to Ryan after a while if she did become a companion. And I have a feeling we might possibly see more of her in the future - at any rate, she seems fascinated by the Doctor enough, she'll probably be keeping an eye out for him.
There's a rumour (though I never trust rumours when it comes to Doctor Who until they're confirmed by BBC) that they might bring back Jenny, from the fourth series, possibly as his companion. What do you guys think?
This is where my two second memory shows itself. I just remember the last episodes with Martha being odd. -_-
I bet Jack would try his 'pansexual/I transcend mere issues such as gender' act out on a lesbian. It would be nice to see him getting kicked into touch too!
I've made my thoughts on Jenny clear earlier on. I know they obviously left the door open for her to come back, but personally (big emphasis on that) I'd rather she didn't.
Heyo Ljos :D Haha, don't feel bad, sometimes getting it the not so good way is the
only way to get things xP. Oooo shiny box set *-* I thought the 4th Box set came out last year? At least it did for us, we got it in like November xP. Mmmm, admittedly it was quite expensive (i do plan on getting it though) it was like $70-$90 (maybe $100) last time i checked.
Mmmmm, I think i also like her even though she did kiss him, she didn't fall completely in love with him, they were both on equal ground (hence her line: two equal mysteries) Mmmmm, i think she actually may be a good match for 11, though that would be a laugh xP.
Eh, I'm not that fussed about Jenny. She would be good to come back, but i dunno if she'd be good with 11 or not but then again that remains to be seen, so we'll have to wait and see.
Well, we may get to see a male companion quite soon, just sadly not yet xP.
(this is my attempt at subtly XD)
Jenny is a riot and she'd be fun and all, but I really get the feeling she wouldn't be too keen on kicking around with her father for that long... After all, the last time we saw her, she really did look quite determined to travel space on her own steam. I think a male companion would be interesting, but only if they made it a kid. Having two guys in one Tardis really would be overly masculine, especially with how flaming the eleventh doctor looks. There'd be too many rumors about just what they do between destinations... Kids are always cute thought, so I think they should try a child companion again.
I'm too lazy to watch Doctor Who illegally, but it's really slow coming over here to the states. I mean, really slow. We don't even get, like, any of the specials so I do have to watch any of those I want to see illegally. Makes me so made... Hence why I have no idea who this Easter Special companion is and won't even try to act like I do. T^T
Martha got married, right? So technically, her love for the Doctor was nothing more than fleeting puppy love that was quickly cleared up when she found a less chronologically impaired male to marry.
I wanna Doctor Who box set too.... T^T Maybe I'll try asking for it for Christmas. (Birthday is too close to ask.) Correction, I want Scifi to get their act in gear and give me back my Doctor on Scifi Fridays! I mean, really now, it's not like it isn't already in English! They should be able to mass air it, catch up with Britain, and keep going in the states right in time with our good friends across the pond. I mean, really now, it's not like BBC isn't available over here, even if they're idea of a new Doctor Who episode is slower than Scifi's....
Last time I saw the show. . .
ALERT!!!!! SPOILER!!!!!!
Quote:
. . . Martha was still only in engagement. She and the rest of the Ten companions all teamed up for the season finale, and there was never any concrete confirmation about what happened after it was all over, except for the fact that Rose got a human Doctor to love, and Donna will never remember ANYthing about her travels with him, and the former Prime Minister died in the line of duty.
Everyone else, it's just assumed that they went their merry ways and did just what they were planning to do.

I don't know if your post could be considered very spoiler-y for some people Connie. ^^;
Just in case...X
The Rose/human Doctor thing makes me cringe to even think about it. If I was Micky/Ricky/what's-his-name I'd be more than a bit annoyed too.
I feel really sorry for Donna though. At least her mother learned she's not entirely useless and maybe she should appreciate her instead of just nagging and putting her down.
+ 'Chronologically impaired' is possibly the best description of the Doctor ever. XD
Married, engaged to be married, the point is that she moved on. >.< (Rose, on the other hand, settled for a human doctor.) My dear Connie, we are both in the same (fail)boat on this one. I take you live in the states quite possibly...?
On the topic of it being spoilery, I'd have to murder the t.v. station that was far enough behind for that to be a spoiler. 0.o Then again, there people who watch it via reruns or just watch it in their own time, so I guess it could be a spoiler. (Like me when it comes to CSI) A really really big spoiler.
My memory is absolutely rubbish so I have no idea how long ago things actually happened. I thought I'd heard people who don't have the channel that shows Doctor Who (the idea of having so many different cable networks confuses this simple Brit) in the US/Australia/outside the British isles have mentioned they haven't seen series 4. Just even if someone was in the process of watching the series on TV or on DVD the spoilers in question relate to the very end (the last few minutes even) of that whole series.
Ooh, I forgot to mention this before as well but it was nice the Easter special was shown on BBC HD. Torchwood is on HD, but all that means is you can see the grey hub and Welsh rain a little more clearly. XD
HD is lost to me. @[email protected] My tv is lame and boring and so is every station on it. I just watch it for Doctor Who anyhow, so it's not like it matters. Well, I'll watch CSI or NCIS on the off occasion but I'm not a really big fan of the television. Not one bit. Kills my creativity, and I'm a writer, so that kind of stuff just doesn't fly. Too many plot holes... that why I watch intelligent shows only.
I bet you that my memory is twice as bad as yours. I mean, I didn't even realize it was Friday today until someone told me. Not a big whoop at first, but when one realizes I didn't know because I could remember how many days had passed since monday... then it gets a little bad. (Oh the lovely welsh rain. How I long to see it in HD. <-- jk jk, total sarcasm.)
Well yes.
My last post has been edited, just in case.
And yes, I reside in the US, Philadelphia, PA to be exact.
And I also (as far as I know) have no access to HD.
And.. as far as which cable channels show Dr. Who, the only one I have access to is the original Sci-Fi channel, which is at least one year behind whatever's being shown to the Brits.
So, by virtue of this thread even existing, it's just one gigantic spoiler for those of us in the U.S.
XD Yeah, I didn't expect a new companion in the Easter special, so that was a bit of a surprise. But I guess with us a year behind it's a little hard for them to have much of a recent conversation without spoiling something... Ah well. BBC shows Doctor Who as well, if you get it on your television, but I think they're farther behind then Scifi. (I watch on Scifi for just that reason.) So that means you live closer to "them across that there pond" than I do, even if there is still a vast ocean in the way. Meh. One of these days I'll just skip hop over there and buy me some recent Dr. Who dvds so I can marathon them when I get back home.
Annette, we could probably meet up and do the Squee Dr. Who Squee dance whilst the natives do their best to avoid being in the same aisle as us crazy Yanks.
I'm all for it if you are. I should be somewhat in the area around June if you're available then. Got your passport ready? WAIT! Freeze a second! If my thought are right I may actually be going to London as well this summer which means bye bye allowance, hello Doctor Who dvds. Either way, let us be crazed Yanks together and scare the natives.
