My synopsis;

Varun is your run-of-the-mill street urchin, though he can't really be called such anymore. You see, it's the day of his eighteenth birthday so he's an adult. But he has no skills, no extraordinary background or family lineage, no magical powers- he can barely keep himself on the 'good side' of a dangerous and cunning woman who works in the black market; it's not so much dabbles in as it is submerges in. It's a particularly miserable day so rainy it's as if someone is just emptying a never-ending lake over their heads when something unusual happens, something that this port town has never run into before.
Pirates attack a merchant ship attempting to dock.
After the attack, Varun feels compelled to become a pirate himself; after all, he doesn't have anything to lose. He doesn't want to become the best pirate ever, either. That's simply far too dangerous for his liking. Varun simply wants to become a mediocre pirate. Not too horrible, not too famous, but somewhere safely in the middle. Once he assembles his crew, the crew of the Inkmist finds themselves the chance of the life time to make a fortune to last them, well, a life time. The trouble is... it would put them in the eye of one of the most feared fleets on the sea- The Royal Navy.
