I'm new to the whole cosplay scene and looking for tips and whatever.

if you're interested, I'm cosplaying Paine from Final Fantasy X-2.

Trying to get the costume put together is the hardest part so far...

awww those avies are so precious! Thank you!

And yeah, the hardest part at this point is getting leather to make the capelet and shorts/leggings and just getting all the general pieces together. lol

Thank you- it's going to be quite a time. :)

Cosplay is awesome. There is a hangout in the Nations section too that is dedicated to cosplay.

It's been a little dead lately, but that's because we need more people to talk about it!

^ Thanks for the link!

I'm basically relying on the rest of my group to point me around...our Rikku in particular is very excited at seeing my reaction.

Also I'm looking to get a sword made (wood). Know of anyone/thing who does them well?

This is so time-consuming... *sweatdrop*

have you tried pleather? or pvc leather? and I know that foam core board, however weak, is very good for making weapons, or wood. sometimes both (using foam core board for details that can be easily cut out and manipulated) there's someone called babylondonstar on DA http://www.babylondonstar.deviantart.com/ follow the link to her website and there is a reasonably good tutorial on how to make the moogle doll (if someone from your group is going as that witch woman) if you have any questions I'm an experienced cosplayer

with the X on Paine I believe I once saw it on ebay or a specialist game site I found when I was looking for roxas' necklace and I know you can get her pendant on there.

With the shoes you can always buy ANY cowboy looking boots or similar and use shoe paint (available from any shoe repair shop) to change its colour. I once changed some black shoes to brown using this stuff and they turned out absolutely fantastic, like I'd just bought them that way in the shop, and it only took an about two and a half hours (drying time within that, it dries within a reasonable time) and you usually only need the one bottle for a pair of shoes. I should know, it started raining on me so when I was running under cover in shock the bottle broke when I dropped it and I only got to use a little less than half its contents

I've heard that pleather is a pain to work with. I used upholstery vinyl on a coat for my bf and it was awful and nearly broke the sewing machine a couple times. If you go that route, make sure you have a machine that can handle it.

I agree with seeing if there is a lighter alternative for the prop. Carrying around a wooden prop can be very tiring and if you paint it right, a foam core weapon will look just as good for pictures.

Cosplay is quite time-consuming if you want to be sure that everything is just right. ^^;;

Wow thanks!

Yeah, our Rikku (who is our seamstress) refuses to use PVC or even upholstery vinyl. She swears by leather. As long as she buys, I'm not arguing. And thankfully I have a perfect pair of boots.

And I'll keep an eye out for that site. The X is the thorn in our collective side right now.

@Epi: Very cool! Did you make or buy your costume?

I've cosplayed plenty of times.

I created my own character, and sometimes I go to school dressed as that character.

Cosplaying = fun!

Every time I see your icon, I think it looks like Paine. I'm glad that it was finally confirmed, because I've been curious if that was the intention for a while now. xDD

I used to cosplay animes and video games - I've cosplayed Naruto, Fatal Frame 2, Fruits Basket, Kingdom Hearts 2, and...Star Wars I suppose. xD; But 2 years ago I got into J-Rock and I've been cosplaying that ever since - I've done a Gazette cosplay and an An Cafe cosplay and I'll be doing alice nine next Spring! :D
