Personally, I'm a skeptic, which means that I believe that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Ghosts are something which, in my opinion, fall into the 'extraordinary claims' category. There are several possible mundane explanations for the flushing toilet.

1) You're not as alone in the house as you thought. Your roommate / parents / kids came home and didn't tell you before they flushed the loo.

2) There's a leak along the valve that closes the water tank, and, having leaked enough out slowly, the water came on to refill the tank (this sound -- the water refilling the tank -- is what most people think of as the sound of flushing).

3) It was actually in the next apartment, not yours.

Of course, I don't know what the actual set-up of your house/apartment is, or your living situation. You'll have to figure out for yourself which of these is most likely for you.

if this is the first instance and you haven't heard anything while having people IN the house ASWELL....leaking toilet. Call the plumbers.

I DO believe in supernatural things like ghosts. But I've heard toilets randomly flush when I'm alonee at home too. It's just the plumbing.

I don't know if I believe in ghosts or not. I'd like to, particularly if they are in fact proof of the continuance of life after the death of the physical body. I just don't believe in things easily; I need evidence.

=O Well, that's natural. My hamster died in this house, and one night I woke up at like 4 am to use the bathroom and I was trying to get back to sleep, and I could hear the hamster wheel moving. It was scary duck XD!
