Memoirs of a Geisha. <3

I love the take from the book to the movie.
Even though things were different, I could still see where they were going.

The characters were almost perfect.
One of my favorites of all time really.

My favorite is probably Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice.

I very rarely watch movies, though, whether they're based on books or not.

The Shawshank Redemption is one of my all time favorite movies, based on Steven King's short novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. Also in the Steven King boat, Stand By Me based on The Body.

Also, Silence of the Lambs is one of the most prolific chillers, based on a book by Thomas Harris. C:

The Green Mile.

Holy crap, was that done amazingly. The novellas were great, and I think the movie surpassed it by a landslide. Other than that, I much liked Jurassic Park, Inkheart, Jaws, and Watchmen.

Yes. Watchmen is more of a novel to me. XD

There are a few in my mind right now. Does it count if it doesn't go directly from a book to a movie? Oh well:

Percy Jackson and the Olympians series -- The Lightning Theif [the movie] is coming out in February; I can't wait! The series follows Percy Jackson, a half-blood son of Poseidon the sea god, as he tries to keep ancient Greek monsters and titans at bay. It explains that the creatures from Greek mythology never died; they simply relocated to Western society.
Coraline -- Never really read the book, but the movie was beautiful. My gosh, it hurts my mind to think about how long all the stop-motion must've taken to film. Feel almost sorry for Henry Selick, the director.
Phantom of the Opera -- So many different adaptations; the silent film with Lon Chaney was the closest to Gaston Leroux's original book. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the music for it in 1986 (?) and that was turned into a movie.
Sweeney Todd -- Originally a folklore in London known as A String of Pearls. Later, it became a play, then Stephen Sondheim added music to the mix. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton made it famous in 2006.

I was ecstatic that they made Inkheart a movie.
Brendan Frasier as Mo made me giggle like a little school girl. X3
However.....I had always imagined, and thought that Fenoglio was Asian, for WHATEVER reason. XDDD
I kept thinking he looked somewhat similar to Tim Marcoh from Fullmetal Alchemist.
Hehe.

"The Color of Magic" by Terry Pratchett
...but the movie left much to be desired...
I always imagined Rincewind as a 20-38ish year old guy, not the 50-60 year old fart they HAD
I also imagined Twoflower as a dumpy, tourist-y little Asian man, though they did get dumpy tourist part right
The man casted as Vetinari was spot on... even if he WASN'T mentioned in the book...
And they left a bunch of stuff out
I guess I should watched the movie FIRST then read the book
I would of been less disappointed by it then
But, hey, what could they do with a small budget and 2 hours?

I looove all the Harry Potter Movies even if people get all picky and say they stray too far from the books. I've never been one to care too much if the movie and the book are not exactly alike. My other favorite is the recent adaption of Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley.

One of my favorite books, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman was made into a horrible movie, the budget was just too low, it was made into an even worse graphic novel as well.

Actually the mini-series caae out before the novel. BBC cut the budget/messed with what Neil wanted and he was so disappointed with the final result, he wrote the amazing novel that we know as Neverwhere.

I liked Interview with a Vampire, The Lord of the Rings, Phantom of the Opera, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Memiors of a Geisha, The Princess Bride, The Last Unicorn, Sense and Sensibility, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Coraline, Beauty and the Beast, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Usually the books I like get turned into horrible movies, then again anything you read will be better than the film made after it. Imagination beats movies. Still it's a very big disappointment when you see one of your favorite books get turned into such horrible movies. Twilight is a huge example of this. I actually liked the twilight book series but when I saw twilight the movie i was very disappointed. Hopefully the saga to twilight (new moon) will actually be worth taking a second glance at, the trailers seem interesting.

I'd be surprised if someone hadn't already mentioned this one, but Fight Club by Chuck Palaniuk.
The book is all about this guy who's life is turned upside down when his pretty little appartment is blown to shreds. He turnes to someone he's just met, Tyler Durden, and starts living with him. They start fighting each other just for the hell of it and eventually it draws other men to the circle. Together they grow out of their little protective bubbles and are given true life outside of worldly possessions and desires. They start to live for themselves and see how corrupt the useless the world is and they go about causing madness and mayhem.

I like both the movie and the book. I may not have explained it well enough because I've seen it so many times it's hard to put it into words. It just is. It needs no explanation. But the book is pretty different from the movie. The ending is different and there are a few chapters that are different (or aren't even shown in the movie. like the chapter about marla's lips).

I'm sure someone else has said it, but it is my favorite. ^-^

I Read the book first. Sometimes the movie kills the books or even get things in the book wrong. I am sorry, but the cast the wrong people for twilight, I believe. ect. The Stake house Sookies books (with is now true blood on HBO) I believe Bill was done wrong, and some of the people don't make the people in the book. Lord of the right was a great book, but the move had to cut out a lot of things in order to be a movie. I tend to like the books more then the movie, however that isn't written in stone. I then to like the Disney(I hope I spelled that right) movie, more then the original fair tale because I am not always in the mood for blood and guts. In the little merriade, arial get the prince in the movie, but in the original fairly tale she died, get doesn't get saved by the prince.
