please help!

I am writing a comic book but I want to research about messengers of death (technically every religion has it's own thing that would take the victim to the afterlife..). So I need to find some books of the Grim Reaper.

I tried the library mythology and religion sections but found nothing. I would have used the internet to research but I always prefer books... Does anyone have suggestions or perhaps stumbled over a book with this topic in it? I'm a stuck comic writer T-T

Well, I'm going to write a book on the grim reaper. After I get done with several other books. It's been an idea that I have always found attractive. But, I have not really found any books on the grim reaper.

I have my own book of knowledge that I print stuff off the internet and paste it into my notebook, and I have a whole section on the grim reaper if you want me to send you the information.

Also, the movie "Meet Joe Black" is about a grim reaper type person that falls in love.

Um, I think I can look up some books on teh grim reaper and then come back here and tell you what they are called. I'm sure I've read some books somewhere about him...

Have you read any of the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett? Death appears as a character at least once in every single one of those books (and there are quite a few). In particular, these ones follow him in his own plots:
Reaper Man
Mort
Soul Music
Hogfather
Thief of Time
some of these also involve his granddaughter, Susan ( . . . it's a long story)

Another interesting portrayal of Death would be in Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics. She turns out to be a free spirited gal with sweet taste in clothes and a lot of good sense. Oh, and she happens to be the older sister of Dream, Delerium, Desire, and a few others.

Death also has a special role in The Book Thief, but it's really not about him/her/it.

I know you mentioned being against internet resources, but if I were you, I would check out Wikipedia anyway. It'll help you a lot, you can find keywords in that article to look for in the library.

You could read "Elckerlyc" (Everyman in English). It's a 15th century play in which the main character is visited by the Reaper. I don't know any other books with the Grim Reaper in them off the top of my head, but I'll let you know if I think of one.

My example isn't the Grim Reaper exactly, it's The Pardoner's Tale, one of several stories in the Canterbury Tales. The story revolves around three men who try to find Death, and all end up finding him in the end.

It's probably not exactly what you're looking for, but Death acts in different ways, no?

You could research Hades and Charon. The Sandman series also has an interesting look as Morpheus' sister.
You should really watch "Dead Like Me." It's on really late, unfortunately. It's Canadian, and it's got Mandy Patinkin. Really quirky. Apparently there's only two seasons, but it's really good. Also, Wikipedia says a movie is coming out sometime in February. You could also read the Wiki article. It's interesting.

Death isn't potrayed as the Grim Reaper, but I loved Death's character in The Book Theif by Marcus Zusak. Death narrates the tale of a German girl named Lisel living in World War II, it's a very interesting take on him. One of my favorite books.

Another one that has... well, I think it was Death. I don't remember well. Donnerjack by Roger Zelazny and Jane Lindskold was a book I only got ten or so page into because it made my brain hurt. (That made me sad- I adore Jane Lindskold, usually! D: ) I had little idea what in the world was happening- and I fancy myself good at understanding books. I did like what I read of Death, though, assuming I remember correctly and it was in fact him.

well if you want a comedy about the grim reaper try terry pratchets serious. He's got some good books about Death.

Someone already suggested Piers Anthony and The Sandman Comics? Oh well. The former is good for looking into Greek mythology mostly. As for the latter, it really does offer an interesting look at Death. The two comics that are specifically about her character are Death: The High Cost of Living and Death: The Time Of Your Life. There is also a manga out there that has The Sandman's Death as a main character.
