I desperately needed study hall time. My senior year, I had study hall first thing in the day, and I used the time to get a lot done on my senior project as well as my term paper.

One year out of all my schooling did we have study hall. I don't even think it was a whole year because everyone knew it was the most wasted time of our day.

I'm not sure that 1000 kids ever attended the high school in total!

Let's see...I think the average class was probably around 12-15.
I suspect the school ran for about 40-50 years before it closed.

So you figure 50 different classes graduated, and if the average was around 15, that would be a total of about 750 students over all the years.

The average graduating class at my school was around 200. Seating around 20-25 per classroom.
That made it just around 1,000 kids in all at the high school level.
There's another local high school that has about 1,000 kids per grade, and there are talks at the county level about whether it would be a good idea to break up that school into smaller, more manageable class numbers.

As for smaller numbers being "lame", I would argue that. I think that smaller numbers means more personal attention with the teachers, which produces better understanding and education overall.

that's good for college, but it makes a shitty high school atmosphere and then you know everyone and everyone knows you and you have to be with them.

Again, not a bad thing, I think. Knowing everyone and everyone knowing you makes for a closer community. You watch out for each other and celebrate with each other.

Well, it's not as if we had a choice in the matter.

After all, the town had a total of about 250 people in it.
This was North Dakota, Kat. Not very many people per square mile...

I'm not the Smartest in my School, but I Think book smart's tend to not matter. You can have all the book smart's in the world, but when it come's down too it, if you don't have common sense, your pretty much the dumbest person ever.

It's true that common sense is more important than book smarts.

Well. That's what I was talking about, anyway. When we were talking about the number of people in each grade.

I'm not sure if quality is the word I'd use, but whatever. I don't know what this was really about.

I can, but I have a cold right now and I don't know if philosophical should be attempted when sick. I can't even spell philosophical today....
