I really love the Southern plantation house look. You know, big houses with huge, white columns in the front. Like the house you see in the movie Sweet Home Alabama? Like this.
I'd prefer it to be in the country. I've always lived in the country. I like it. I love the quiet. I've stayed with my brother in the city several times, and I just hate thinking there's company when someone just passes by, because his house is located close to the road.
For the dream kitchen... White (not blindingly white, though) with black granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, island in the center... That sort of thing. Kind of like this.

First, that is a beautiful house and an absolutely stunning kitchen. I don't know how a person would be able to keep a large house like that clean!
I too would like granite countertops. I don't know how difficult they are to maintain though.

Well, I'm a clean freak, so I wouldn't mind having to keep it up. Maybe if I had enough money to buy that house, I'd have enough for a housekeeper.

One time in my life we had cleaning people come to our home (back when my husband and I were both working full time). After awhile, we realized that they had quit coming. We inquired, and found out that they had lost the key, but never informed us! Of course, we immediately changed the locks, and fired them.
My husband would never agree to hire anybody again.

Oh! I like this question!
...
Although I really miss living in the country,
for my children's sake, it'd be in the city.
I would have a basement, and a second flood.
I would love it to be as big as my house in the country.
Too big would be hard to clean. :/
And Victorian-esk!
Yes! Yes!
Red brick, white trim! Sounds wonderful already. n__n

It's hard for me to think of a true dream home with no limits, but here are some of the things I've liked about different houses that I've lived in or seen:
- There is a certain town in Illinois that I'd like to move to. It's about 30 minutes away and is filled with hippie liberal environmentalists. I like seeing everyone walking around all the time and the library there is the best. It's also a pretty old town, so many of the houses are older (and hence more unique than the modern clones) and the trees are mostly mature.
- I don't want a huge house that's impossible to keep clean. 2 bedrooms and 1 1/2 bathrooms would be nice. (Then I could use an entire bedroom for a huge closet!)
- At my current house, I have a small state park nearby and lots of trees. I wouldn't necessarily have to live next to a state park, but it's important to me to be somewhere where I can walk around and enjoy the view.
- I saw this really adorable house that was painted gray with white trim and a bright turquoise door. I definitely want some color on my house, even if it's just on the door.
- I don't want to live in a sleazy neighborhood where I'm afraid to walk around at night.
- Hardwood floors! And no cats to throw up on them...I'm going pet free for a while after I move out.
I'm sure there'd be lots more if I thought about it longer, but that's a good start.

Exact details I'm not sure of. I know it would be environmentally sound as much as possible with solar panels and geothermal heating.
It would be career oriented with at least two or three career oriented rooms or even a gazebo to contain one career. Yeah...I'm a home business type. Still I don't like my career and hobbies mized into one space. The live in office like I have now. When you have a home business, things get mixed up enough as is...And I want to keep my personal life and career life a bit separate.
I would love it to be located within fifteen minutes driving of the ocean. I'll skip ocean front property because it's for rich people. Which with my home businesses, I won't be.

Mine would be slightly in the middle of nowhere, with nice bushy forests surrounding and a humoungous garden that I can let go wild, creating a load of secret bits and stuff.
Wooden hutty sort of style, self built with my partner, real fires nice country naturally roughy sort of thing.

I always thought that I would like a nice simple country home, with country settings - the idyllic life.
I suspect though that an urban environment would really be best for somebody like me, who doesn't like to drive, and would prefer everything within "arms reach". It would be so much nicer to be able to just walk out of your home and get whatever you needed.

My dream home would have an indoor pool, be located in CA, with a big yard, several bedrooms, a huge kitchen and a home gym. And a really cool bedroom with maybe two closets, a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi... stuff like that.

Yes, I'm an artist so if I was surrounded by countryside and forest I'd get more inspiration to draw too, I could just walk outside and paint/draw or whatever.
I've always loved growing my own food too, and gardening when I was young so it'd be just perfect :D

I always thought that a garden would be nice. As a child, when we lived in the city my mother would grow tomatoes in a little patch in the yard.
So when I purchased my first house, I immediately put in a little garden, planted my tomatoes, and watched them start to grow. Then the slugs came and took over. My poor tomatoes. That was the last garden I tried to plant.

My house would be huge.
I'd live in the city, but my house would have 6 or 7 bedroom, 4 bathrooms.
One of the bedrooms would be my office, then the master, with the master bathroom. The other 4 or 5 would be guest rooms.
My bathroom, this is where I'm going to get in detail. I used ot be a house cleaner so I know exactly what I want. lol.
I want to walk in and have a huge mirror in front of my matching his and hers sinks, with yummy smelling soap. I'd have a walk in shower, with the little shower nozzels on the walls that shoot water out, then one lard over head shower and just let water fall. I would have it so I could adjust the water temp.
Then I'd have a jacuzzi tub. As for the toilet, it'd be in it's own little room. lol.
I'd have a nice spacious kitchen too. Everything would be stainless steel. ^^
That's my dream house.

Awww, no! You should start again and get back into it! :) I know, its really rewarding growing your own and eating, and they taste so much nicer than bought veg. I can't wait to save up and move away from this horrible town I live in. I miss my old house, where my parents live. It's only five miles away so I can go whenever I want, but the garden was huge and overgrown and wild. It was great, there were loads of 'secret' bits that weren't really supposed to be secret bits :D

I've considered living in an apartment while I'm single, because I like living alone. My room would be decorated with teal, my bathroom in purple, and everywhere else would have a neutral color theme, like the living space would have browns and tans, while the kitchen and dining area would be black and white. One bedroom, one bathroom, patio, kitchen with attached dining area, laundry closet, and living room/den.
When I own a home, I don't want it to be new. I will work with what's already there, because I know there are enough vacant houses for me to find one that works for me. It's a waste of land and materials to build a new home while there are still good houses waiting for an owner.
At first I wanted a two-story home, but I'm not so sure I want to grow up with stairs anymore. My knees already seem to have trouble sometimes when having to do too much bending. I want a three-bedroom, three-bathroom house.
Here are two plans for which house I would hope to find.
One-Story:
You'll enter the front door which is at the center of the front of the house, and walk into a tiled foyer, where you'll take your shoes so as not to soil the white carpet. Then, to your left will be the living room, decorated in black and white, tres chic, very modern. To the left of the foyer will be the hallway to the bedrooms and guest bathroom. While we don't have children, the two bedrooms will be an office and a playroom with all our video game consoles set up to a big flatscreen TV mounted on the wall. There may be a pool table or foosball table. The master bedroom will have one of the bathrooms in it. I'll have to finish later, YOGA!
Two-Story:
The living room would still be on the left of the foyer, but the dining room would be the right. Once you walk into the dining room, an archway would lead to my kitchen with an island. This kitchen would have maybe an earthy theme to it: olive green, brown, beige, and maybe some lime green. Stainless steel appliances, maybe. Straight across from the front door would be the stairs to the bedrooms. The laundry room would be under those stairs, and the bathroom would be next to that, still across from the front door [but to the left of the stairway, obviously] (so if you really have to go when you first walk in, it won't be hard to find!).
Upstairs, the master bedroom with the double-mirrored bathroom, bathtub, separate shower, and walk-in closet will be above the kitchen and dining room, so it's to the right of the stairs. The bedroom that will be the playroom will be closer to the stairs, same set-up, and the next door will be the bathroom. Next to that (or maybe across from it) will be the office bedroom. Not sure if I'm finished yet, YOGA!

Those are lovely houses, celestial dear. They look like some I've seen in the Carolinas.
delish, it sounds as if you have some wonderful ideas.
Tomten, I agree that one of the best parts to having a dream home is your partner. Having somebody to share with makes it all worthwhile. I don't know what I'd do without my husband.

I've lived in 4 houses in my life. All of them very small... We're 5 in my family so the houses seem to be that small.
Anyways, I want to get independant so my dream house at the moment would be a nice appartment with living room, 2 bedrooms and a small kitchen. Don't need much, the other bedroom would be like a studio for my projects, oh! And I could use a bath tub xD
As for a house it would have to be big! Would love to have one by a lake with fog in the mornings, have a forest near. It would be all rustic, 2 floors, big tv/games room, a reading room, big kitchen, I would love to have one of those enormous mexican kitchens. Have you seen that movie with Keanu Reeves where he meets a mexican girl? THAT would be a perfect house for me, so rustic and pretty <333
