Oh man, I've never had a character be that difficult. I'd be afraid to even get started on one that might do that to me. ):

she is quite fun though. me and my friend nearly made an rp out of the war she caused in my head as she took over my mind (only for the story really) and it was pretty awesome. She got beaten and she has calmed down quite a lot since then.

Well, that's good for you. ^^ I don't think I've had a character quite that demanding, even the spoiled princess whose story I never finished because I learned what Mary Sues were. XD

yeah. mine can be very demanding and tend to deprive me of sleep. I have too much fun letting them do it though.

those darn mary sues. I've had a few I think, but I tend to go for really unusual stories and I so love violently nearly killing people with every battle. It reminds me of Ruroni Kenshin!

I'm kinda glad my characters aren't quite so demanding, I have a job that is more than that demanding already. -_-

I stopped watching Ruroni after the first or second season. >.>

Thank you, I reported it. I don't know how these keep happening! D:

I heard the manga was a lot better than the anime. I should try to borrow it from someone some time. ^^

I like the manga, but it was kinda long. not like bleach or something, but...no...actually, It was only 23 books I think.

Rumiko Takahashi wrote Inu-Yasha and Ranma, both series run well over 20 books. She also tends to drag out the story for at least twice as many books as she really could. I don't know... I'm used to series not taking up more than 10 or so books.

I'm used to anime, so I don't know how long they are in books. Fruits Basket was 20 books and I loved them all!! I never got through Inu-yasha and I read the first book of Ranma.

*hugs* night Nenna. I need to sleep now.

Unruly characters? I haven't had one yet. They do go in unexpected directions sometimes though. In my last story I had a character get hit by a car on purpose. It was pretty crazy. I did not originally have that planned, but then I was like, 'sure, why not'.

I have characters do things I wasn't planning all of the time. There've been a couple times where that's made some major changes in the story, but frequently they're relatively minor.

I'm working with some characters right now that I rather expect to be a little difficult at times. I've only recently gotten started with this story, so I can't be certain how agreeable or not these characterss are going to be. I just have a hunch they won't be.

My current story will probably have characters getting out of hand though. It's about a girl who gets kidnapped to a world where everyone has mental disorders. Except those would be normal there. Anyways, it probably will get unruly once I actually get into it.

That sounds interesting. Just be careful going into those mental disorders. I know a few people who've worked at mental hospitals, and they'll tell you it's not as simple as the way the media portrays it. Most mental disorders manifest in far less dramatic ways than Hollywood would have most people believe.

I know. I have bipolar myself, so I know how that manifests. And I know I want to be super careful because of that. I hate when bipolar is portrayed wrong. I'm sure someone with any other disorder would feel the same way. Part of the point is to have a realistic portrayal, in addition to making it sort of surreal because of the slight absurdness of the premise.

That's right.

And people who're delusional or hear voices are often portrayed horribly wrong as well. Of course, the latter isn't helped by the packs of teenagers who claim they hear voices in their heads because they think they're being witty. I remember talking with someone who said that hearing voices isn't a sign of a problem until they're no longer coming from inside your head.

You never think about it, but that really does make a lot of sense. So long as the voices are inside your head, you have enough of an attachment with reality to know that they're not real. Another person I talked with told me once about when people are beginning to recover from hearing voices and an announcement will come over the loud speaker. They'll look to the nurses and ask them if they heard it too just to make sure they aren't slipping back into delusion. They're just so unsure of their grip on reality that they have to use others to judge it.

I think that must be a very frightening sort of existence.

I technincally have a mental disorder too, but it's just ADD. You know, it can be a bit troublesome, but it's nothing serious to be sure.

I think what most people don't realize is... we already live on that world. Everyone has some sort of mental illness to some small degree, it's how our brains cope with the broken world we live in. Stress usually brings it out a little more in people, that's why people do things like talk to themselves or fall on strange habits when they get really stressed. Me... I have to start straightening and organizing things. One day at work I was so tired that I couldn't count my till because the dollars weren't all facing the same way. :/

Nenna, I do that everyday. Money has to all be facing the same way. Ugh, I hate that not all money does that though. I think it's the twenties? They're flipped so they either need to face wrong or are upside down. @[email protected]

There's a difference between coping and a serious mental disorder. When you become incapable of functioning in everyday society, there's a problem beyond the broken nature of society. You can't dismiss it all so lightly.

I don't think she was dismissing it so much as saying that a lot of people have what could be diagnosed as an illness, but isn't because they find ways to fit into society somehow. (Nenna, please kick me if I put words in your mouth. XD)

I agree though many illness' are portrayed wrong and I hate to see people faking them. I'm considered ill and so are some of my friends and people I care about and to see others making light of something that disrupts my life is, well... rude.

DD, I think you got about the jist of it. Though I guess I was trying to get more to the point that we all have the potential to become seriously ill if we let the world get to us.

Anyways, I know I have what could be the beginnings of some mental illnesses. Just from the way I act and react I probably have a slight case of ADHD (tempered nicely by a good bout of laziness XB) and I have some OCD tendencies that aren't really that big of a deal unless I'm tired or stressed. Though I will randomly straighten crooked pictures or whatnot when I think no one's looking. Unfortunately one of the things everyone at my job is expected to do is "front and face" the store which is to basically straighten everything up. If I let myself go I could wander around making every little hanging item perfectly straight and I would go insane. The fact that there's dust everywhere and I feel this need to clean isn't helping matters. This is also the job where the money got to me, I usually try to not let it get to me as a form of choosing my own battles but that day... I was trying to count and put them in order at the same time and my count was waaaaaaaay off. :/

I also think I have some sort of hearing problem but the aural doctors always tell me I have perfect hearing when I go in. I think that's because their tests always have no background noise and that tends to drown out whatever I'm trying to listen to in the real world. Drives me nuts to have to ask people to repeat themselves ten times or just not hear someone trying to catch my attention at all! Everyone thinks I'm a spazz (which I am... but not that bad) when I really just can't hear them. -_-

egads, that was some ranting. Sorry about that... I have issues with my issues.

I get what you're saying about people faking and wrongly portraying medical conditions. I have the fun of a condition that's largely considered to be a children's disorder as well as lots of people thinking it doesn't actually exist period and is just a b.s. excuse. People have actually straight up told me that they they think it's crap to say that I have ADHD. IT's really irritating sometimes.

They only associate it with the image of the kid who's bouncing off the walls and can't focus on anything for more than three seconds. So many people don't realize that there's a type without the physical hyperactivity, which is more common among females anyway.

That's a big problem with portraying mental illness, I think. It's not like a physical condition, where there'll be actual physical symptoms like a fever, coughing, or a rash to give away that there's something wrong. So many people just can't seem to believe that something exists if they can't see it.

Then again, we've come a long way from the day of lobotomies.
