I know it's been discussed before, but I'd like to offer my personal opinion on the vast amount of items.

Firstly, it's amazing at how many items mene offers, yet it seems pointless as the MAC is out of date. I've read the reason for that, I do understand it but honestly, it has to be said that the incredible amount of items is worthless if you cannot preview an outfit in any way.

Yes again, I know it gives you a preview of the solem item, that's all fine and dandy but it doesn't help at all to see if certain items go together.

I am slowly growing tired of my outfit, yet I don't even know where to begin with thinking up an outfit and the sheer flood of items is counter productive at best in that 'quest'.

I don't know how people come up with these great outfits, it must be quite a hit and miss and if you have spare cash that doesn't hurt, but if you've got a tight budget the items you purchase better dang fit together or you have a problem.

I would like to ask to have some sort of preview to be high priority. The lack of previewing outfits takes away from the avatar part of mene.

Which do you want to be a higher priority?

a preview of avatars, or the day to day functions of Menewsha.

the reason why the MAC isn't the highest priority, is because there are more important things to be done.

I am sure the staff have been planning the valentines day event for quite a while, not to mention the coding, and new site layout that went into it.

I am sure it is on a long list of things to be done in the future, but I honestly don't see it as something key to the survival of the site.

Just look at Gaia. They have been around for over 5 YEARS, and yea they don't have a dream avatar creator. Tektek is privately owned.

I feel this is more important then the said 'day to day' stuff. There's hundreds of clothing items unused because people cannot preview them. Shopping is an absolute pain because of this. You have a male avatar, so I'm going to assume you're male, we females love to shop, we love to dress up our avatars pretty. And that's what the shops are the for, nay?

Why have all the items and shops when you cannot really use them?

And Gaia doesn't have one because tektek has been there for YEARS. Everyone knows it, everyone uses it, so Gaia staff of course isn't going to make their own because there's a perfectly working one out there already.

The avatar is something that portais you on mene. I no longer like mine, yet I have no other option but to keep it because of the above stated. Thus the entire mene site has become much less fun for me.

Yeah, but most of the enjoyment of the site is dressing up your avatar. That is why it's an AVATAR community and not just a board with only discussion. I understand the staff is rather busy, I back them up on that. But certainly it's starting to become a peeve of many of us, that the MAC hasn't been updated in a long while. It's just starting to become less enjoyable when I can't really previously dress up my avatar with the latest items so that I may quest them. Whilst everyone else that is good at guessing what they'll look like (or has the effort to add them to the MAC manually), get's to have more fun with it all.

You can hover over a thumbnail in the stores and it will show you what the item looks like, when the shops are revamped we will have a proper system working too for previews :) Shops being revamped are up the top of a very huge list though last i heard ^^

The MAC is run by Spring, and i do know she has had quite a few irl troubles which is why she hasn't updated - apparently you can update items into it yourself (i haven't tried myself because i don't use the MAC)

The MAC is an extra added feature in which someone was kind enough to take the time for so that the users of Menewsha could make outfits. I personally, do not use MAC. I just go and make my own outfits, try to eyeball what I think looks good together. An avatar generator is not a necessity that is of utter importance. I like to think of it as a bonus, that users and staff have done over periods of time to help out people.
Now, word that has leaked around the forum (I am not privy to extra special information as a trial moderator, so do not take this as word from God himself) is that there is a generator in the process. I am not sure when it would be released, but I have heard rumor of this and it will be updated with every update we get.

It's rather amusing that the two people who do not find a MAC a neccesecity (sp?) are both male, no offense, but grow some boobs and think like a girl and your statements will change drastically^^ We just love shopping, we love collecting the perfect clothes, it reaches all the way back to hunters and collecters.

@Tre Thanks for the heads-up Tre, I do know it previews the solemn item but that doesn't tell you anything wether it fits with the rest or not, so definitely looking forward to them shop changes^^

@ Bartuc: Ack, don't you get my hopes up, that does sound heavenly.

When it comes down to it I would find Mene and gold making ALOT more enjoyable if I had an outfit to go for. I'd make my own little Quest hang out thread, I'd be around to post more, I'd spend hours trying to get the perfect outfit together but at the moment it doesn't seem quite possible.

And as has been said before, it IS an avatar site afterall, if I *just* want to chat I'd go for a forum without avatars ;)

Also, I'm really not meaning to step on any toes here, exspecially not of the MAC makers, I do know she's had IRL problems and has now problems with the images supplying no back image to update the MAC. Mene has been out for years now. A MAC isn't on the high priority list when a site starts out but 2-3 years after when there's hundreds if not thousands of clothing items? Yes, high priority then, IMHO.

I don't think you should feed the stereotype that women love to shop. Men like to shop a lot, too, and I know plenty of women who hate shopping. You like to shop, others on this site like to shop. It's not gender-specific.

That being said...

I'd love for there to be a generator, that would be awesome. I'm sure we'll eventually get one. In the meantime, it's not really that hard to figure out how items will look together. There are resources available, like this subforum in the avatar chat forum. You can go there and ask people what an item will look like in combination with other items, and a lot of Menewshans will even be so kind as to loan you the item long enough for you to see if you like it or not.

I do that sometimes. I also use the little preview in the store, and if I kinda like it, I add it to my cart, and go about building an outfit in the card, then go back and preview those items again, figuring out what layers over what and eliminating items that I might not like as much as other items I've selected as an alternative to the original item I had thought of.

Time consuming? A little bit. But once you're more familiar with all of the items it doesn't take as long.

That's just a suggestion for how to handle the lack of a dream avatar generator for the time being.

@Cricket: I generalised because most females love to shop. Yes there's exceptions, hence why I did not say "Every single female ever born loves to shop". And it's not a bad thing at all that a gender likes to shop more than the other, you made it almost sound like it o_O So no need to nit pick, I'm sure everyone who read what I wrote got what I meant ;)

Thanks alot however for the pointers, I'll have to try the shopping cart suggestion and see if it works for me :3

Actually the first thing I was going to point out that not all girls like to to shop as that is what I took from what you said, and 'all girls' generally encompasses all girls ever born.

I too don't use the MAC, I had it for a while but never used it so deleted the program. (All I used it for when I did was to find out which shop an older item was in) It's rather easy to eye, and sometimes it's fun to take the risk if you like the image of the solo item to buy and try to make an outfit around it as you grow your inventory. That's all I manage to do and I don't see items that don't fit the avatar wasting gold when you turn around to make a new avatar it might fit that one instead.

Of course, I don't look at making avatars so serious but what generally fits my moods, so I might be speaking out of line.

However the shops are being worked on like Tre has said so unfortunately it is a matter of waiting.

I'm sorry for english not being my mother language, would you rather I post in german to be able to express myself better or to put a disclaimer after my post to make sure no one interprets it wrongly?^^

Jokes aside, I never said all girls. I said 'girls' to specifiy the gender, then went on to say 'We' which means, me and the rest of the girls who love to shop. I never said all girls, so I have no idea where you got THAT from, please, if you quote me DO quote me with what I actually said.

German is a beautiful language, but not one I understand. You'd already made yourself clear that you weren't intending to generalize.

I wish there was a german avatar site. I often get wrongly interpreted because I word things strangely or come off as harsh when I'm not intending to be but alas, there's none so I have to make do. Even though I've started learning english at the age of 8 (am 23 now) I'm still far from perfect at it, mainly because I only speak it online, and it's easy to be interpreted wrongly because the other person cannot hear your tone of voice or see your face, sorry if I stepped on any toes >.<

The reason why I pointed out that not all girls like to shop is that American women really hate it when stereotypes are applied to them. At least all of the ones I know do, and I've read countless rants about how people keep holding them up to things like the color pink and shopping a lot and things like that.

I think it would've been better to simply say 'because people like to shop'. It's a little better just because it's not gender-specific.

Anyways, the avatar chat subforum is really handy to ask how things look, there are many nice people there willing to help. You can also ask me how things layer. I'd be happy to show you how an item might look if I have it. ^_^ I never mind doing that for people.

I'll head to there right away, I saw someone who wore a nifty black/red scarf that I'd love to have, but I can't find it anywhere >.< I PM'ed them but so far no response D:

And sorry if I insulted anyone, over here in germany we don't mind these kind of stereotypes at all and I wasn't aware that american's are so offended by it =/

A black and red scarf? Look in accentuate. I'll go try to dig up the exact page number for you. I'm gonna finish dressing my avatar first, though.

Edit: Here ya go! http://www.menewsha.com/shops/index....p&id=13&page=8

Thank you^^ I'd like a red, black theme, so I'm going to go ahead and do what you suggested, card any and all items that fit the theme and then try to gauge which ones fit together^^

Yeah, that's what I love to do. And then if I'm not sure of layering or of how something will look with a certain hairstyle, I go to the avatar chat subforum. It's a pretty good way to go about it. ^_^

If you need anymore help finding items, don't ever be afraid to PM me to ask. And if you want to know how something looks, you can ask me, but I won't promise that I'll have the item in question. ^_^

Good luck with your outfit!

Hee - Americans can become easily offended by the most benign things thanks to being trained by a concept called "political correctness".

In any case, until we can update the MAC or replace the MAC with something better (which will happen eventually, though I can't say if it's sooner or later because I don't actually know), hanging out in Avatar Chat will help. :)

I, personally, almost never use the MAC. I'd rather eyeball it on the manikin and buy it if I like how it looks individually. I'm trying to build a monster inventory, so I figure I'll eventually find a use for it if I don't like how it looks with the outfit I originally bought it for. XD And occasionally, layering changes... so an item I didn't have much use before could suddenly become my new favorite. :3

Anyway. >_>

Staff can lock this if you're satisfied with what you've heard. It'll also prevent people from lecturing on stereotypes. LOL. But this can stay open if you'd rather. :)
