I BELIEVE the point of racial identity, is for ME to define myself. And if I no longer feel African American is adequate, I'm going to say Black.
People can be so weird about that.
By Black, it means your roots (somewhere) as far back as you can trace go to Africa. African American can be anyone who moves to Africa, have kids there, and move to America or have children (3rd generation now) in America.

For the longest time I actually thought black was deragatory. XD But then, I think about how we use "white," so I then realised that black is just fine and dandy.

As for African American.. how the fuck is that PC at all?! Would you call a black person in Europe an African American..? That always bugged me a lot.

Well too bad. I'm always courteous around others simply because it's in my nature to do so. I'm naturally docile and naturally think of others first.... and I'm dark-skinned.

My dad's girlfriend is Politically Correct to the point that .. well, like she'll have a four hour argument over whether my dad has the right to call certain people by certain terms. It usually degrades down to her just calling him a "Bigot" and a "Racist", which is always fun because he doesn't care. xD;

I feel that if the people you're talking about don't mind you calling them this or that, then there's really no problem with it. D: Otherwise it's just you that's making all the fuss.

If you want to get down to it, everyone has a title that could be applied to them.
