I went there to check out the halloween event too and was utterly amazed to see my gold count and the same 'buy items with GC' its really very funny for me... so desperate of them to do such a thing, specially updating the gold shops with some halloween items that look nothing compared to those that are available only with GC...

Umm.. Well, I ended up logging in. I am not amazing in the slightest... Maybe the only thing I did like would be the addition of the fish tank. I did like it, but I would only see myself playing that, not chatting etc... I haven't been back since that and I doubt I will... Sounds like Gaia is an overrated sellout site, like it used to be when I left.

Gaia is a scary place.

Where children use their parents credit cards to buy GC.

Keeping the soulless Gaia machine alive...somehow...

They have a Halloween event where you have to buy GC to get stuff?! You're not supposed to force people to spend money to get items but entice them to spend it and get something. Especially if it's for a annual event.

SRSLY, have they become that much of sellouts that Gaia can literally be acquainted to a prostitute with not a care in the world? Man, them sponsored items and events put them down a dark path.
Umm... yes?

You know, does anyone know how Gaia replaces parts of an avatar to create different poses but yet, are still able to make somewhat cohesive avatars? It's mind boggling to me. Idk if someone does it manually, or if they have a code ..or if its even possible to code some monster like that I cant even.

Like look at these
How even

I KIND of have a vague idea of whats going on bc they're basically just replacing out certain cut off sections ...
but I just dont know how they do it ..like how. i mean what about the items before this development
did they just create some monster code that auto-cuts things ...because surely they did not go through and manually cut items

i know some of these items are part of a set, but they can still be used with other tops. it's pretty cool..;o;

It might be done with "masking" (just like you'd do in Photoshop, if I understand correctly). But more likely, I'd guess they cut the base up into different parts to accommodate the different poses and so the different parts would just "turn off" the base's unnecessary parts.

I think so! I admit to not being entirely sure how that works (but I'm not a coder, so I wouldn't). But that's the basic idea. By default, it's there, but it disappears when certain conditions are met.

I heard about that. It's a shame I didn't join Gaia before they started selling out.

That place had so many perverted people on there it was almost terrifying .____.
And one of them which i thought was my friend that i added on skype[blocked and deleted him now]
he would harass me night and day everyday and basically would accuse me that I was selfish and just said
a lot of mean and rude things to me just because I didn't like to cam or call people e.e

I at one point ran across a girl showing off her body in a thread, and blatantly admitting to be only 12 years of age
What always disgusted me about Gaia and friends, is that such things were openly permitted because they wouldn't prevent such things. Regardless of site rules that's a major legal issue.

A hacker who made himself $600 ($6000?) gaia cash and scammed/hacked other users for gold got banned and is now pitching a hissy fit with giving gaia DoS attacks.

Wait, so...I logged onto Gaiaonline yesterday. Does that mean the hacker is trying to gain access to all of our accounts? Should we, as users, be worried?

I am surprised to hear that there are non-PG things on Gaia. I guess I didn't really spend too much time on the forums on that site. I am glad that Menewsha has that rule in place.

salv back when I was on gaia people would post X rated images all over the GD. upon reporting them the reporter would get flamed out of the GD for about a week. The mods would not delete it unless someone reported it.

I'm not worried about getting hacked for my items. as long as they leave the art on my profile alone. But it's not like I have anything of value except a little otter.

The hacker/scammer was banned, so they can not do any more damage.

I thought reporting was anonymous? I don't understand why the report would be "flamed." (I put it in quotation marks because I'm not exactly sure what being flamed means.)

Well it was common at the time to say "Hey guys this is against the rules" and then everyone knew they were the one that reported it.
Being flamed... basically threats and hateful PMs

What a shame.

I don't remember whether I've ever reported something on Gaia back in the day (i.e. three years ago), but I definitely would have done so anonymously if I did.

I was a loyal GC buyer until I saw that awful tentacl site. That was what made me stop. I couldn't let Gaia spend the money it earnetd from me on such a disgusting website in good conscience. Good thing it is no more now. However, I didn't know how deep in s**t Gaia really was until I took a look at this thread. I am SO glad I stopped buying GC when I did. I was afraid I would never be able to kick the habit. Unless things change on Gaia Online, I can say I've left that site for good.

So... just got told something interesting today.
Gaia has demanded that Tektek cease all actions. So Tektek is gone forever now.

They are now in, apparently, talks with TekTek because they don't want Tekkon advertising his rival site on a site that has Gaia's property on it.

TekTek Update

Quote:
Hello Gaians,

We wanted to take a moment to provide some transparency in our recent letter sent to TekTek, what it means for the site, and why we sent it. As you may know, we are currently contacting TekTek over its usage of our intellectual property (IP). Let's outline the basic reasons: for a very long time, TekTek has benefited from the traffic generated by users travelling to their site from Gaia Online, and users have been able to utilize TekTek to craft dream Gaia Online avatars. In fact, many users aren’t even aware that it is an entirely separate site from Gaia, and one we have no input on. In general, there has been a healthy relationship between TekTek and Gaia Online as we have allowed this. Many, many months ago, TekTek launched a competitor site that directly began featuring ads on services carrying our intellectual property. As a business practice, this is not okay and we would like to resolve the matter with TekTek in a way that allows their site to remain up, and our property to stay protected. We are waiting for them to reply to our initial letter, taking the site down is our final resort if we are unable to come to a mutually beneficial decision.

We would like to thank Gaians for their understanding as we continue to work through this. We will update you all when we have a resolution to this.

Well it's hard to tell at this point if it was just in the cycle of ads or if it was a permanent redirect.

I'm honestly surprised that after a decade, they didn't make a partnership with tektek. If they did I'm sure they would have a lot more say in what ads show.
