I'm an '04er.
I try to look past the money grubbing updates and the elitist that post, and just do my thang.
It's getting harder and harder, though.
Also, I bet my boyfriend there. We now live together. 3 years a few days ago. <3

I come from gaia and am here on a short stay, sort of like a diplomat staying in another country.
And I am shocked to see that massive generalisation is being used against gaians, making us all raving "12s" with nothing better to do than spam.
We have our own culture and from my first impression of Menewsha it is far different.
I have never bashed another avatar based community without seeing the place for myself and am shocked and apalled at the amount of discrimination the users posting in this thread are showing.
Unlike most of the people here I am not going to generalise all Menewshans as other site hating elitists, which all of those posting hateful comments are cleary showing signs of being.

Palm Trees And Powerlines, don't take it to heart. Like the members who are immature on Gaia? They aren't all the members. Just like everyone on Mene aren't Gaia-hating jerks. No matter where you go, someone will voice an opinion, because of a bad experience, a let down, etc.
I'm an active member on Gaia, and it's not so bad. But compared to when it first opened, I am dissapointed in how commercialized it's become, and the amount of random OMG BE MY FREND or DO U WANN CYBER pm's get's a tad irritating. :sarcasm:

I just joined Mene, and I like it. I have been a gaia user for a while. At least a couple years. It has definetly changed. I can't decide which one is better yet. Both have their goods and bads.

I would like to think that Meneshwa will stay a more civil and less hectic site than Gaia. Here the rules are stricter and may deter some of the younger more obnoxious Gaians. I know that Gaia doesn't care about double posting or 'spoon fed' questions. I love the structure here. Makes it a more pleasant place to be. I hate flamers and I have not seen a single one on here in these 2 months :D I also think the Gaian gold has gotten WAY outta hand and I hate that they started the Cash Shop. "Let's just take everyone's REAL money and their time." Makes me sick really.

In fairness, this thread is the thread for people who moved from Gaia to Menewsha, so it's likely to have a lot of people comparing the sites and/or complaining about Gaia. It doesn't necessarily mean everyone here hates Gaia, I'm sure there are loads of people who are happy to be members of both sites(like me!).
There are big differences between the sites, the main ones being the size of the communities and the mod to user ratio, so people will like one site over the other based on their personal preferences. Some people prefer a smaller community where they feel like they know everyone and others would find the anonymity of a larger community more appealing, etc.

That's really cool! How did you guys meet your boyfriends? What happened, etc? You can't leave the stories there! xD
@Kaema: Me too! I liked him better when he was attached to Dr. Singh by his teeth actually, but oh well.
I keep trying to design a cute Halloween avatar on tektek, but I just can't make anything pretty, I'm going to end up Green and silver :'( I know I want him to have orange hair and I want to use my jacked-up shirt for once, but other than that I'm totally stuck.

I really forsee a lot of promise for this site! As long as the community steps up and provides the kind of support that keeping Menewsha alive will need, I really believe it can avoid the whole menishagosh that seems to have infested the G place.
I suppose there's a correct spelling of that, but I've only ever heard it, not seen it in print. I believe it's Yiddish for a big mess, though.

The whole "money hungry" issue on Gaia is why I started to look for a new site in the first place. I'm tired of 9.5/10 announcements being about cash shop items or evolving items from the cash shops or garbage items from advertisements. I don't know much about Menewsha now, but it seems to be on the right path. :)

I've been on Gaia since '06 and can be found there under Jana_Marie. I don't think I'll ever outright leave the site for any reason (besides a small break here and there) but some of the things they have started implementing in the site make me stray away for a while. Like that new luxury item shop? I mean seriously?! As if it wasn't hard enough getting old MC's they make a shop for items that don't go under the million gold range?

Not to mention Gaia has become highly cash oriented in the last year or so. They seem to have forgotten the whole point (and starting place) of the site - to be fun and FREE. Practiaclly all the items they make these days have to be bought with cash or bought for outragous amounts in the market place from users who have spent the cash :/
|
i totally agree with you. its not fair how gaia has turned its back on its players persay....not everyone is going to have the cash or gold they need to buy what they want. ive been on it for a while but i swear its getting harder and harder to but things.

And yet, there will always be someone to pay cash for the items. Doesn't matter how many people leave in disgust, there will always be more people attracted to the site who have no clue how different things were way back when. However, I do agree that it is disconcerting to see the sheer volume of cash-only items that they are creating and how few you can buy with gold.

Yes, they will always have people forking over their money, but you know there are problems were masses of the old-bies are leaving the site because of the direction its going. So it means most of the site is being taken over my newbies who are probably only a few months old on the site and don't really know what their doing. Which makes them easy targets for hackers and scammers, which then fills the inboxes of the Admins who have to sort through all the crud, which has effectively backlogged everything out the wazoo so when an older member gets hacked they'll be lucky to even get their account back in eight months (if they even get it back at all)
