You should ask that to host/server that hosts Ava's domain..

Okay, I was hoping to hear back from my host today. Nothing. So I said "screw it" and signed up for a new hosting account. We're basically moving onto our own server now, much sooner than planned. But I'd rather go for it now instead of waiting God knows how long until she gets back and checks her support email. u_u

So as soon as it's set up, I just need to transfer all the data over. That should be a few hours after that.

HOPEFULLY TONIGHT.

At the very latest, pending any horrible problems, tomorrow after work (9-5pm EST are my work hours)

that sucks but its good to hear what exactly is going on rather than sitting in the dark about it

Well, it's midnight and I do have to be to work in the morning. They haven't sent me my login information yet (though they did send me a welcome email 2 hours ago saying that it should be up and ready to use within 24 hours). I'll check again when I wake up in the morning and give a status update. If I can use it, I'll start transferring the files over. But I think most of it will have to wait until after I get out of work at 5pm. ;_;

Edit: Got the email. But I don't quite have enough time to get everything set up and ready to go since I have to leave for work in 10 minutes. So I will have to work on it after work tonight!

I'm in the process of transferring everything over now! Should be up and running tonight pending any "omg I'm new to this" errors on my part. FYI, it's very different than what we used before in that I have full control over everything. I can also restore backups of databases quickly. So in a case like this where I do mess something up, I can restore it again instantly.

No more blue Apache screens of doom.

Also, anyone that used the old, old, old URL to access Ava... (the road-to-eden one) it's not going to work anymore. I'm just going to move that somewhere and let the domain expire.

Nope, you could still access the site through it, but it was a pain to log in and do anything with it. :p (basically your cookies pointed to the other URL)

But I'm thinking about renaming the comic when I do get around to the full restart. So... :/ I'm just not going to pay for the comic domain for another year. It's long and ugly.

anyway stuff took forever to upload (went out to dinner and back and it was still uploading) now trying to get the forum database to work again.

at least you had time to eat dinner in between loading xD do you have any ideas for the new name of your comic btw?

I have no idea what to name it, TBH, I'm horrible at names. Obviously. XD

I managed to get the database transferred. But I transferred a month-old database. Which is a mixed blessing. I need the structure of the old database to fix the problems we've been having recently with registrations and profile editing (which was what I was originally trying to fix). So I need to wait for the newer database to upload so I can fix that.

In the meantime, I'm just making sure that the site works okay. Once I'm sure that everything is functioning properly, I'll change the domain to it's new location and open it back up. :)

And for the new name were you thinking of like a one word name because I don't think road to eden is really that long

It should. From here, if anything goes wrong, I can figure out how to fix it quickly. :)

Maybe like one or two words? something not so generic sounding. I need to write down words that describe my story and then brainstorm from there. Anyway, back to work!

As I posted on the main site, I've got everything transferred and restored! I just need to figure out how to create nameservers (basically, it allows you to point a domain to your host) and we'll be good to go. I'm still waiting to hear back from the new host with the 2nd IP address so that I can set up the nameservers since I bought the 2nd IP last night.

This is completely new to me since I've never done any of this before and it's my first time setting up something on a private server. I had to learn a lot of new things in the process since it's different and more complex than buying a $5-$15 a month hosting plan from some company and uploading your site right away.

I can't wait to see ava back up and running
