Im sorry but its stupid that guys treat us as though we are like crazy. cause a girls we like to play video games and stuff that normally would be considered "boy" things. Whats wrong with a girl who likes to play video games? i mean come on i would think that they would be like wow someone else to try to beat at the game, ya some guys are kool about it but then there are some that are like all sexiest about it. I mean come on, its the 21st century we can play games just as well as any guy can.

Well, Tre, that is a lot to say about female gamers. I really hate it when guys act so tough and all when they challenge a girl. I am a gamer girl myself and I do not let anything pass me by. What I do, is try to play at the arcade and all of sudden some male comes in and challenges me.
I remember one time, there was a guy that was kicking everyone's butt on Marvel Vs. Capcom. So I got in line. When this guy saw me, he was like, "Let the other guys play. You are just a girl." I told him to prove to me that you can bet me in front of all them guys out there. I so creamed him and I think I saw a tear on him. XD
Another experience was when I was in Narita, Japan. There was a Sega Arcade not from from my hotel. On the second floor, there was all fighting games on there. They are the ones that you sit down and cannot see who you are challenging. So I was walking around and saw this guy on the other side. I made sure that he did not see me and challenge him. When I won the match, he looks to see who was the challenger, which was a female. He was shocked to see a female beat him.
I am not really the type that deals with makeup and cloths. I do love my games. I also love playing God of War, which some males turn their heads when I talk about the details of the game. I even gave advice to my guy friends when they played the game.
Oh, my boyfriend does work at a game store called Game World. Sometimes I do give advice here and there. Today, I did that with a male asking for advice on Zombie games for the Xbox 360. I remember the Dead Rising was a good one. He brought that and two other games and I told him about the part 2 for Dead Rising, which I read in GameInformer.
I am happy that there are other gamer girls out there. Here in the US, there is not much shocking to see a girl with a video game on her. Sut there are girly games, which I am not fond of. But, just need to change the minds of males because we are growing and sometimes it is good to see how much you improve.

Well, I'm actually not that much of gamer, but I play the occasional Tekken/Soul Calibur/etc and watch my brother play all other sorts of games. He's the real gamer, and despite not being a gamer, I'm pretty updated on gaming news and etc cause of him. =P
I have experienced the sexism in gaming though. >.>;; One time, there was a house party at a friend's place, and the guys were playing some Soul Calibur. Since the drinks weren't ready yet, us girls wandered into the room where they were playing, and when we wanted to try for fun, they literally made fun of us. :x Well, I got miffed, and in the end beat all seven of their asses at it. >83 It pays to have a brother who gets you to play arcade games, I guess. 8DD;;
I'm not really into shooting games and other stuff like that though. =O So, no stories to share about them. ^^;; But, sometimes when my friends and I pass by the arcade and decide to have a few rounds of gaming for fun, we always get strange looks from people. :x What's funny though is that there was a time when I beat this dude at Street Fighter (forgot which version xDD), and he blatantly told me that I must have been cheating (he earlier accused me of beginner's luck, but dropped the idea when I beat him four more times after that xDD), because, "I was in heels and a skirt." >.>;;
I mean, of ALL the excuses he could have given, he had to pull that one out of his sexist ass. >.>;; I didn't have to defend myself though, because my other girl friends did that for me. xDD;; It was nice to know though that people were on our side after the encounter was over. Even a little girl playing at the arcade at the time gave me candy for standing up to a bully. ^^;;

I love gaming, but I'm not very good at it. Mostly I play Zelda and Trauma Center. Although I like that PvP game with all the Nintendo characters... (My minds gone blank. Ack!)

Thankfully a certain game store that I've shopped in whenever I hit that city don't give me any strange looks or anything like that. No one's ever really asked me if my games are for a gift. If they tried that they'd get "the look" and possibly a middle finger in there face if my mood was bad already.
I've been a gamer since the 8-bit days and owned an original Master System so very little gets past me when it comes to gaming. This is very handy when a well known gaming chain puts a rare game in the bargain bin or I find a rare game for sale second hand and it's in good condition and cheap.
I guess I tend to shop online though due to my experiences with computer sales people who try and speak to me like I'm a retard and then get a shock when I start talking about the front bus and the GPU and the PSU and the CPU.

I just remembered this one time where my parents brought me to an adults party, so all the kids were in one room, with all the guys playing Street Fighter on an SNes... It was the first time I saw such technology XD
Ahem, so I finally was given the chance to play, and since I didn't know how to use the damned control I just pressed random buttons whenever my adversary came near.
Who won? Neither one. The thing crashed before I could total him 8DD;;

I love to game. I'm more of any RPG gamer so I play a lot of MMORPGs as well as regular stop time and active time RPGs. I actually have a few female friends who are gamers; we're all pretty close and on equal terms with our male friends in that department.
I think female gamers are just as common as male gamers now and play just as well. There really shouldn't be any distinctions. Videos games aren't meant to be sexist; although games like Cooking Mama may lead one to believe otherwise. The female gamer population into a lot of games like War Craft and Halo has increased greatly in the last few years. A lot of guys seem to keep that insecurity about being less manly if they're beat by a girl; this applies for video games as well.
I generally don't say much about my gender when I play so I've never experienced anything like that. And all my close male friends game with me so I don't have any problems with them either.
I actually have a huge collection of RPG games for the PSO and PS2 so I know a lot about the genre. I've even had male friends ask me advice on them.

I'm actually surprised guys would think or act like that, simply because from everything I've heard from guys, they want girls to be gamers. I always hear how guys want to find gamer chicks and stuff like that. In fact, sometimes it makes me feel less desirable because I'm not really a gamer chick. I play a few games here and there but it's a casual thing for me. I like video games, just not to the extent that some people do. My boyfriend is really into video games so sometimes I wonder if he's disappointed in that I'm not as into them as he is. But I still enjoy them and I am glad it's something we can do together, except that he kicks my ass in every game. But for guys to think that girls shouldn't be into playing video games? If that's how they feel, they are just going to miss out on having something in common if they get with a girl who doesn't like video games like how they think we should be. I don't really see what a guy has to gain from being with a girl who's only or main interests are make up and stuff like that. If you have nothing in common, nothing you can enjoy doing together, what's the fun in that?

The boys in my school are JERKS. Well, sort of. Only a few dudes understand. And two of them just don't care. Every time my school held a carnival, they always have a lone PS2 waiting. So I challenged one of my stupid guy friends at some FPS (forgot the name). It's quite challenging, but I owned the bitch. They still think they could beat me. And they're all anti-girls. I think they're gay, too.
To make it worse, I'm the only female gamer/tech geek in school. >_>

I've been a female gamer since Pokémon Red and Blue! *cheer* And I was little thrown off by not having a female avatar available, but was generally surprised they finally started adding in that feature started with Pokémon Crystal onwards. Honestly, I haven't been into a whole heck of a lot of games, but more than most girls I know. Trading card game-wise, I could always kick butt at Yu-Gi-Oh! - but both Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh are now things for 'kids'.
I've always loved my Age of Empires (1 and 2) and Age of Mythology, but never got around to connecting with anyone online to play competitively. My dad thought I was a little bit of a strange kid in that sense, he had a game with a similar set up, except it was based around WW2 and had tanks and stuff instead of elephants. (Speaking of good ol' dad... he also let me play his flight simulators. Didn't do half bad with those.)
I played FFVII before it became popular with Advent Children. I enjoyed Spyro when I could play with my nieces and nephews. I played two of the first three dot.hack//sign games before GU. I played the SIMs and SIMCity, and recently purchased the SIMs2 even though its been out for years and years... I also played Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2, which is a pretty 50-50 kids game. Last year I played Crisis Core because I already knew the ending, and I had just about as much fun racing through that game as I did through the last Harry Potter book. ...but you know what games really attract me?
MMO's - I know you mentioned those WoW nerds that only come outside to buy game cards. Yeah, that's me. Only female and I get out a lot more. I kick ass in PvP and battlegrounds. (Played since fall 2005.) I've also played (if only long enough to beta test) Flyff, Mabinogi, and Perfect World International. Typically, when having to deal with guys in those multiplayer game situations, they typically act as if females are nonexistent unless proven otherwise with Ventrilo or some other voice chat software.
You may not see me playing anything with blood all over the place, but I don't see a lot of social guys doing such either... but I did play Quake II back in the day and it had crazy mindless blood and guts omgwhatisthatattackingme moments, too. (And also had PvP content....) But I was a lot younger then... and it wasn't my game... and I'm not so hot with first person shooters, fyi. Guys might have something on me there.
On the forefront of guys vs girls, what about Smash Bros? That's a game everyone can almost get into equally now. Percentage wise, I'm not sure... but skill-wise, I think both guys and girls have the same amount of strategists and button-mashers with that game. I'm a bit rusty, but I bet I can beat out guys. Similarly, guys may not consider Dance Dance Revolution a game at times, but how is it much different from Guitar Hero?

I'm not much of a gamer--but that has to do with my limited social interaction previous to about 11th grade, the fact that we didn't have computer access at my house (or internet) until 10th grade, and the fact that I never played a video game (my parents wouldn't allow me to get a system) until... About 11th grade. XD Not so much because I was female, just because my interests went in other ways for long enough that I'm not very interested in those even now.
However, I'm fairly comfortable with topics and words that people still seem to think females are unprepared for.... I'm not good with the internal-dancing and back-biting and two-faced games that are stereotypically female, and am in fact on almost the exact same emotional level as my boyfriend. I'd say that I have more masculine tendencies than female, depending on my mood at that moment.

You know Tre, I avoided this topic as I thought it'd be something on a totally different wavelength and I didn't think I'd have strong feelings about it...Now I actually am bored enough at work I'm wishing I hopped in sooner.
I've been a massive video game nut. I remember playing tetris for the very first time. How many hours I spent on Mario Bros 3 beating the same stupid levels over and over again. I've played the original Pokemon Blue when it came out, before the massive hype. In fact I spent homecoming my Sophmore year sitting at home plugged into Pokemon on the Super Gameboy for the SNES.
My ex-husband we blown away by the fact a girl actually played Tactics Advanced on GBA and loved it. In fact he was just impressed that a girl actually played video games. I think if it weren't for the fact of me being a major tomboy I wouldn't gotten as heavily into it. (I can remember my guy friends trying to get bragging rights for being the best on Street Fighter 2...actually I remember beating it on super easy and thinking how leet I was...Oh boy)
I just sat down and asked my boyfriend at lunch what he thought of female gamers and if they're still a rare breed. He says he thinks so, but I pointed out that his daughter loves playing video games too (much to her mother's dismay) and that it's slowly becoming a more diversified market. You still have male orientated genres and titles, but with franchises like High School Musical and Barbie making their own games you can't tell me they aren't trying to cater to girls.
My boyfriend is also totally surprised I like video games, and in fact it's part of the reason he loves being in a relationship with me. His ex wife use to constantly nag him about playing. Me on the other hand give him the space to do as he likes as I'd rather him at home plugged in then sitting at a bar anyways. Not that he's that type.
Hmm sexist comments or remarks to me? Yah I guess people are surprised, but I don't really let it get to me. I'm proud to be a bit on the nerdy side. ;)

It really pisses me off when people think girls can't be gamers. D< Sure, you get the ones who try to act like they know stuff about games. I don't like them. D: They make us actual girl gamers look bad, and we often have enough trouble proving ourselves capable in the eyes of guys as is. DX

I've been a gamer for as long as I can remember. The first video games I played was way back then on a Sega Genesis. (which I still have in my possession) I dedicate part of my life to video games. I LOVE my PS2, and will stay up hours at a time playing one game. I play a lot of RPG's, fighting games, and puzzle games, but I've been recently getting into first person shooters. The Call of Duty series is by far my favorite. I really want to get the new one, but don't have the money to buy it... V.V My PS2 games are overflowing out of the case I keep them in lol. I also have a Gameboy Color with a couple Pokemon games (Crystal is the shiz! <3 ) My bf is letting me borrow his SP and DS as well lol Pretty much, I'm a huge gamer... XD
As for my opinion on female gamers... go girls! d(>w<)b I hate it when boys start pissing and moaning because girls are becoming interested in video games. Well, I got a newsflash for ya... VIDEO GAMES ARE FOR EVERYONE!!! It's not a crime if a girl likes to play video games. They should think it's cool that most have an interest in what they like. My BF loves the fact that I'm a gamer because he can talk to me about video games without me going "huh? what? I don't understand you..." It's another addition to all the things we have in common... <3
Haha, I'm pretty competitive and it's funny watching me play against my BF in fighting games... especially Tekken LOL

I've always loved gaming (I am a girl, just have a male avi.) I've played since I was a little kid, everything from platformers to fighting games, though my favorites are probably RPGs, 'specially tactical ones. And of course, I've run into my fair share of guys who go "Wait, YOU play games?" I actually find it kind of amusing.
I know my fair share of female gamers as well. 5/7 of my housemates are gamers, among others of my friends.
I remember this one time our school had a huge raffle and a girl won the X-Box 360 as a prize. These guys in front of us got so angry and kept saying things like, "Oh, SHE's not going to play it" or "Why did they give it to a girl?". I really wanted to say something to them, but starting a fight in the lecture hall would have been a bad idea.
But, yeah, female gamers for the win!

this is a very interesting subject, i have never come across a guy whos says that girls shouldn't play video games, most of them are like, "OMG!!a gamergirl!we must steal herz to be partz of our group!"
clearly your not hanging out with the right kind of males if they put the genders into different groups when i comes to hobbies.
(honsetly i would probably do the same thing and go off on him, i love games and if someone said i can't do that becuase i am a girl, then i would tell them to f themselves and GTFO.it makes me angry how the world has so much stupid gender role crap, if girls do it to then it isn't only for male, and vice versa. that man diserves a stab in the face[of course he might say, murdering is a mans job women should stick to makeup and clothes...])
no i am slightly angry....thanks.

Pfff. Sure, a woman is posting on the internet.
Give it up, you! I know you're a goat behind there! D:<
... Or possibly an alpaca; but that seems unlikely. How would they type with those hooves, after all...?
But it is entirely possible that a woman might be good at gaming. Unfortunately, it is far less likely that the majority of the unfairer sex would be able to see outside the boxes that give them so much comfort. Those boxes give them their sense of identity, you know; without it, their watery, goo-like egos would melt away into formless lumps, uncertain of how to define themselves. Then the television people would need to come up with a whole new set of stereotypes for them to wriggle into, and then they would need to market to those new stereotypes, which could cost thousands and thousands of dollars and which would force the people in advertizing to have to think.
See all the trouble you've caused! Bad goat, no cans for you!

I actually find that guys are fascinated if you are a gamer. There are a lot of guys out there that are looking for a girl that plays video games.
I do know where you are coming from though. I went into a gaming store once and found a Legend of Zelda action figure. Being a huge fan of the series I decided to buy it. The guy behind the counter asked if I was buying it for my boyfriend. Although I was a bit miffed, I calmly told him "no" I was buying for myself. By actually working at a store, you must get a lot worse than this on a regular basis. Good for you for sticking through it! I've always wanted to work at a gaming store. In fact, since I don't have a job at the moment, I was thinking about applying.

Other things females are apparently oblivious to or are expected to do/know
|
I don't have any specific examples, I just find it a bit irritating when guys act surprised when you tell them you like something every remotely "masculine". But at the same time I get a big kick out of putting that look of surprise on their face. And I happen to be a fairly quiet person so I can understand why people might be surprised to a certain extent.
It actually bothers me more when guys expect girls to be into a certain thing rather than expecting them not to like a certain thing. I am girly to a degree, but I shudder to think that I'm expected to like talking on the phone/texting all the time and am supposed to only like chick flicks.
EDIT: And on a slightly different topic, with all the buzz about Final Fantasy XIII, I have been mad at how many guys think it is a terrible thing to have a female main character. And especially a strong female lead. The horror! I mean obviously if there is going to be a female characters they should be like they were portrayed in FFX-2! *facepalm*
Honestly, I can't believe they haven't had one sooner. I love Final Fantasy, but there has not been one female character in the series that I consider one of my favorites yet. I'm hoping the new one will change that.

I am a gamer, or I'd like to consider myself so. And, quite frankly, the idea that Sims, FF, etc aren't really games is just BS. Just because it's something -you- don't like doesn't mean that it isn't a game.
Now me, I play all sorts of games. I'm more of a fan of RPGs, but I'll play first person shooters, fighting games, whatever. My very first video game was Turok on the N64, for that matter. Pokemon and the like came way later.
No, gender doesn't matter when it comes to video games, anybody who thinks so is an idiot. I assure you, having tits and a vagina does not correlate into the entertainment you enjoy and how well your -hands- move on a controller. I've never had that problem with the female gamer opinions myself, but then, I guess that's because I'm viewed as one of the guys.
As for things girls are supposed to know?
I could tell you entire plot lines of action movies and series, of video games, whatever, including the fun facts that the casual people on the street probably won't even be able to guess at.
But, uh. . .make up? Clothes?
I shop at Good Will and Walmart and the only make up I use is Chapstick.
Domestic chores? Cooking?
I've burned -water- before.

I'm a gamer...a poor gamer, but still a gamer. I'm also a girl gamer, and I think we rock. I also think it's weird that whenever I go to eb games, the guys there stare at me and like all the guys that work there ask me if I need help and I say "no I'm fine...".. like have they hardly ever see girls there or something.
Though usually the guys there are very nice to me ^^ They like me well enough... so that makes me happy. So the people there are interested in what I have to say.
Other things girls don't know much about....fixing things..computers.. sports... anything intelligent..
I know enough about fixing things and computers...and intelligent conversation. I hate how some people in general think girls are idiots... it's annoying. usually it's guys. but I think it's society and I've learned about a lot of things in my sociology class. It's mostly taught in our culture that girls are weaker and our opinion doesn't matter half the time because of our period, and how there's a glass ceiling. I could go on and on...but I need to get to bed.
I also hate how guys think girls only like shoujo manga!! I know plenty of guys that read shoujo manga. I do like shoujo manga, but I also like shounen like yu yu hakasho and ruroni kenshin. Also if you are a girl gamer, then you're not hot or yaoi crazy or insane or something. there are so many stereotypes in society.. it sucks..

I'm a gamer, and I looove when I get to piss guys off because I know how to do things they don't expect from me. My boyfriend and I used to play WoW together, and he'd been playing it for a couple years before I started. After we broke up, he thought I'd quit because I was really only playing wow to spend more time with him [since he spent nearly 18 hours on it a day]. When we got back together and started playing again; he was really ticked to learn that I'd created a new account and gotten up to a 70[which before the upgrade was highest]. ^_^
other things expect/don't expect: uhm.. I can't cook worth a damn unless it's a breakfast food or microwaveable. I hate cleaning unless I'm having a kick.
I work in a hardware store and I'm CONSTANTLY being asked if there's a guy that can help our customers. I'm like.. Uhhh.. maybe I can help you with something? *sickeningly sweet grin* aaaaaaand I try really hard not to rub it in their face when I do know what they want. However, it's really annoying when guys [and even worse, other FEMALES] don't think we know what we're talking about.

I find it ridiculous that they consider Final Fantasy a 'girly' game. When in reality the guys in my group are all obsessed with it. Anyways, I find it a bit insulting that guys want us to stick to clothes and make up. Gaming shouldn't be so sexist. And just because they classify a game as 'girly' doesn't make it less of a game. A game is a game. And if you like games, which ever genre of gaming it is, you are a gamer. Case closed.
In Best Buy, I always ask the guys in the gaming section if their will be a different system modifications for systems in the coming months. Or if a new game is really worth buying. They respect me that I know about gaming as much as they do. We even get into very long conversation about pricing, marketing, and hardware.
I did get a giggle about 'hiring hot women' portion. Because it is true. I've seen it happen but even I've seen these girls and some of them actually do have the brains to back it up. I don't know, maybe it hasn't changed where you have but the 'hot girls' where I live do know their stuff and have beaten their own male staff. It must be very difficult to be a girl in a gaming store.
I'm not great when it comes to EXTREMELY technical questions about gaming systems. (Concerning of opening a system and dismantling it sort) But I do believe I have a good amount of knowledge to be as good as a guy can, probably better. (I stumped my own computer guy when I told him he didn't fix my sister's laptop correctly. He didn't like it that a 'girl' fixed it and he didn't)
As for experiences I haven't had any that were too bad, a bit irritating but nothing major. As for 'gamers'. Just because you play Nintendo Dogs or you don't like WoW, it doesn't make you less of a gamer.

i suppose im lucky to have never encountered boys upset at a girl beating them
most reactions i have are jaws dropping in shock. Though i have been told by guys that i dont look like a 'gamer girl' which resulted in the guys having a discussion on a typical gamer girl
It basically came down to them deciding she was either good at the games but entirely unattractive physically or really bad at the games be totally hot
i apparently was confusing them by not fitting into those molds, im fairly pretty and i curse worse then they do as i blow their heads off in game
