I think for me, as odd as it sounds, is the time I went to Salt Lake City. I've never felt more like I was in a foreign country, even when I was in a foreign country. I loved the rest of Utah, but SLC ...
I remember looking out at the bath houses in the Great Salt Lake (the water level was a little higher than usual, so they were out from shore) and I expected people to come out with those big poofy bathing suits from the turn of the century. Then around the Temple, I dunno it was just so unsettling.
Plus, my parents were smokers at the time, so they kept getting stares.
It's hard to put into words but it was inbetween awkward and creepy @level. And it has nothing to do with mormonism per se, because I deal with LDS all the time. It really was more about the city itself.
